You can still disappear here.... Andrea, congratulations on retirement. Belize sounds like a pleasant change for your beach life. Mexico has been your love for decades but a branch out won't hurt. I suspect you will see Belize again. I'll be interested in reading about your volunteer work. Your smile says it all. Squeeze out every ounce of quiet, nothing and day drinking as necessary. Keep these fabulous blogs coming.
Thank you so much! I am looking forward to hitting the road again. First, I must figure out my life and what I want to be when I grow up. Retirement is pretty fantastic though! I can only hope I’ll be able to travel as much as the Binkleys. I’ll be savoring your blogs soon.
Whales up close How lucky are you, Andrea? Whales friendly and curious enough to get real close. Living on the East coast of Oz we see the annual migration of humpbacks when we choose to sit on a coastal cliff to watch them go by. The closest I have got is in a boat in rough seas when one rose vertically out of the water only two metres away...awesome, colossal and a total surprise. But I have never looked one in the eye and shared a connection like your pics profess. How lucky are you!!!
Wow! Wow! I am so impressed and inspired by this blog entry, Andrea. I had no idea of your alternative plans and lifestyle, beside work and travels. This is amazing to read, and truly inspirational to learn about your dream and it coming into fruition. What an amazing project to pursue during lockdown, and it seems that it may very much provide you with a change in direction in life. I do hope you, and all of us, may continue travelling again soon. If not, and also if so, you still have this amazing "happy place" to return to. An amazing read, thank you Andrea ?
Well hello Alex! Hope all is well over in jolly ol’! I haven’t been on for a while so I need to check in on my fav TB folks and see what they’ve been up to! Yes! The vineyard! My other hobby. Lol. It has been a “grounding” in my life for a while now, in a good way. I can still travel. And isn’t that what life is about? A work-play balance. Hopefully one day I’ll be sipping my own vintage and looking over the rows with satisfaction. One day. Cheers! and thanks for your kind words.
Weird times These are weird times but our lives are not affected too bad. We both have our jobs and the adjustments we have made in our lives are not too bad. One of the inevitable changes we've made is that we travel much less and all the travels we do are domestic only and we avoid trains and buses. If it was safe to go abroad we would probably go to the US this summer. But we won't. We will stay in Sweden the entire vacation. We might go to Glasgow for a weekend in October. We have a (twice postponed) concert to go to there. If it is not once more postponed and if we are permitted to go to UK without having to spend a week in quarantine, that will most likely we the first trip abroad we'll make since March last year. How about you? Take care! /Ake
This Canadian girl's passion for travel comes from my adventurous parents. My brother and I spent most of our youth traveling all over North America in the family’s camper van, airplane, and boat - going as far west as the Hawaiian islands, as far north as Tuktoyaktuk, and as far south as Mexico doing lots of adventurous stuff...canoeing, surfing, fishing, camping, hiking, skiing, exploring, jellyfish poking...it was the best childhood ever!
That same adventurous spirit fueled my travel passion for over 30 years. I’ve been all over the shop. Now that I'm newly retired, I split my lif... full info

So Glad
I am so glad you took time to get the old Andrea back. What a great adventure, all the way down to a Belize chicken bus. Great stories!
