NBD..... flexibility is the key to travel Plan B worked out well. Always good to pivot as needed. We loved our time in Jordan. It is a unique and lovely country. The people of Jordan are lovely and always described themselves as quiet people with noisy neighbors. So true. Thanks for being nice to the boomer (we need help from time to time. LOL) Thanks for taking us along on this marvelous trip and I'm glad you enjoyed the group.
I need to allow more time than I thought We have been thinking about visiting Jordan some day. Now that I read your blog I realise that there is plenty more than Petra worth seeing. Good to know that. We will make sure we have plenty more time to spend exploring the country than I first thought we needed. /Ake
what a treat to find a post from your world in my in-box. Thank you for taking me to a far-away place on this cold Colorado day. I so love your writing and appreciate the time and effort you make to share your experiences with us out here shivering at our desks. :)
Jordan Sylvia and I have been to Jordan twice. We were at Petra a couple of days after 9/11 and it was totally deserted.. Glad you enjoyed it. We were going to go on to Israel but the borders were closed so we took a ferry from Aqaba to Egypt instead.
I am so sorry to hear about Shell's premature passing... I am so glad that you and your mother were able to visit Egypt anyway. COVID disrupted so many travel plans.
Thank you very much. It’s still a shock but we try to move forward without her. Shell is an huge void in our family now. After covid all I wanted to do was get back out there and travel even if we don’t know what the future has in store.
So magical Of all the sights I know of in Egypt Abu Simbel might be the one that feels most magical to me. I am so fascinated by the project where they dismantled it and moved it to make sure it wasn't swallowed by the Nasser Dam. When I go to Egypt I want to take my time and I don't want to rush it through. That probably won't happen yet for a few years. But one day I will go there because I really want to see the treasures of Egypt before I hit the bucket. /Ake
Oh yes! You have to see Abu Simbel. Everyone should. There are so many historical sites to visit in Egypt, I felt like I had to pick one over another. Your idea of slow traveling Egypt is way smart. I’m just glad I got there finally.
Paris I have been there many times and each experience was different. Sylvia and I went there for Christmas one year and decided to go to the Louvre but the queue to get in was 2 hours waiting in the snow so we got on a hop-on-hop-off bus and spent two hours going around Paris huddled in the back of the bus trying to keep warm.
Happy Birthday! I love that you kept your destination a secret, such a fun idea to have everyone guessing. Looks like you had a great time. Looking forward to reading about Egypt.
Happy birthday! Not sure if I would celebrate my birthday amongst the snooty Parisians, but I salute you for doing it! Very brave of you.
Enjoy Egypt, it's amazing.
Well Happy Birthday !! I love those relentless interrogations.... you deserved it. LOL. Viva la France is right and indeed a great place to celebrate anything. I'm a cheese-a-holic and you have to love a country that makes 464 kinds of cheese! Oh... the breads, pastries, wines and chocolate. What is not to love? Indeed the Louvre is a maze but what a place to get lost. We love Cafe Marley which is right across from the Louvre. We like going at sunset, sitting in the outdoor seating, while enjoying a bottle of wine and appetizers. As the lights come on darkness invades the pyramid is lovely. We kept thinking Tom Hanks would come running through the courtyard. We love hop on hop off buses. We ride them all the way around and then decide where we want to explore. It is like living in a map as it gives a great overview. I'm thrilled to hear Charles and Camilla are eager to celebrate your big day. Egypt is spectacular. I can't wait to hear what you experienced there.
Cheese-aholic! Thank you! 55 came fast. I’m probably not at the same level as you with the cheese. But the food in Paris was wonderful. They really know how to live.
Happy Birthday! And what an amazing place to celebrate! From reading about your travel loves over the years, I probably would have guessed your birthday pick was somewhere tropical too. Looking forward to exploring Egypt through your eyes :)
Andrea is Back Oh I love this - so glad to see Andrea is back and travelling again! 😁 Your new lifestyle also sounds incredible - slow travel and house/pet-sitting. I imagine you'll have many more adventures like this, and I look forward to reading about them. I've been to a few places you mention here in Belize, but I was doing the more fast-travel type of trip, so it's lovely to read about the country here in first gear. I completely understand your words on Belize City, I felt the same there. Sounds like you had some serious time to unwind in San Pedro and Caye Caulker. Great reading 😊
Yes! I’m back! Lol Thanks for reading. I can’t wait to get out there and see some more places on my list. Exciting! Hope you are enjoying your travels to the USA. I’ll go and have a read!
Nice underwater photos You have some really nice underwater photos in the blog. I wish I was as good as you taking those. I was in Belize a few years ago. I really loved Caye Caulker and I would like to go back there again. For a while we were thinking about visiting Belize/Guatemala next summer. But when we couldn't find flight tickets we decided on going to Canada instead. /Ake
Finally got myself a go pro and upped my photo game. I did Appreciate the Ray posing for me! Hey! Enjoy Canada 🇨🇦 it’s a big place and hard to cover in just one trip. You’ll have to plan to come back to experience the west where I live.
This Canadian girl's passion for travel comes from my adventurous parents. My brother and I spent most of our youth traveling all over North America in the family’s camper van, airplane, and boat - going as far west as the Hawaiian islands, as far north as Tuktoyaktuk, and as far south as Mexico doing lots of adventurous stuff...canoeing, surfing, fishing, camping, hiking, skiing, exploring, jellyfish poking...it was the best childhood ever!
That same adventurous spirit fueled my travel passion for over 30 years. I’ve been all over the shop. Now that I'm newly retired, I split my lif... full info
