I have to say that I was reluctant to start a travel blog...too much work...who would read it?....just laziness I suppose! Well I now have to admit that it's the best thing we could have done. I am very happy to have found this site because it gave a lot of our friends and family a chance to 'travel' with us and now we have something to print out that is so cool for us to read, when we are home, to refresh our own memories. This site is really amazing ....so thorough and practical and informative not only to the bloggers but to future bloggers and their readers.

Nothing much to report here at all today. We woke up late, missed our coffee and breakfast - so we are holding out for a late lunch somewhere. Todays' agenda is the El Rastro market to see if we can find any unique treasures.. this market is held every sunday and public holidays and today happens to be both. Three Kings Day - everything is closed again :) The market was huge - blocks and blocks and blocks of goods, it was fun to walk around - and there were a few finds for us :) But neither one of us felt like carrying the camera - therefore no pics for today.. We called it in early afternoon - after all - do we really need ONE more day of eating and drinking?! LOL we may ... read more

Hello All - today is the " eve" of the 3 kings - so guess what - today is a Fiesta in Madrid! There is a schedule of events happening in the city this evening - a parade, choirs, childrens choir and a fireworks extravaganza to welcome the kings into the city. This afternoon we headed over to Calle Gran Via from end to end and made a stop at an Artisans market that was set up for the holidays. I loved all the homemade items and wish we had room in our luggage to be able to shop! Today, we are also doing our usual with the late lunch - but an actual lunch today - no more tapas :) We went to a delicious restaurant called El Rincon on Calle Prado and shared a ... read more

Well now that we pretty much got the major sights visited we are taking the next few days to chill out ( again) and discover some of the side street tapas place, do some "light" shopping etc. This afternoon we are headed up to El Corte Ingles, Spains version of Macys/Bloomingdales - this place is insane - it's a quick trip in and out. We are still trying to figure out what the hell is going on here with all the locals out and about all day long in masses! After shopping, we went for lunch at the Casa de Abuela - a really local place - where we were seated next to 12 older couples, all 12 men at one table drinking liquor and shots and all 12 women at their own table drinking coffee ... read more

This morning we are off to cover the top 3 sites that are recommended for Madrid. The Royal Palace, The Prado Museum and the Jacinto Benvenuto Botanical gardens. Walking from the hotel we are about 20 minutes from the Royal Palace. It is the 3rd largest palace in Europe - and it is a beauty. The difference here in Madrid - everything has more of a modern look - apartment buildings and the squares appear older but the Cathedral and Palace are clean and modern. I loooove the fact that this is a working palace - the royal family still comes here for special occasions, weddings, holidays, funerals or to host national guests. There are only about 2000 rooms here in the palace - lol. It's gorgeous without being gawdy and tacky. From the palace - ... read more

1 AVE speed train and 2H45min later, we are in another incredible city in Spain - Madrid! We checked into the Westin Palace hotel here and also love it. So.. no complaints for any of the hotels during this trip - gooo Starwood - truly believe you can't go wrong with any of their properties! We were here by 10am so we needed to kill some time until our room was ready..we decided upon breakfast at the hotel lobby so we wouldn't have to lug around this computer and tote etc... WELL I'LL BE.. the most expensive breakfast everrrrr and it wasn't even that good :( 2 coffees, 2 OJ's, pancakes with blueberries and scrambled eggs with chorizo - $85.00! lesson learned - back to our little cafeterias for BETTER cafe con leche! We finally dropped ... read more

Happy New Year Everyone! Today is a very uneventful day of "reporting". I booked this extra day in Barcelona as a total "chill out" day.. and that we did! We ordered a late breakfast to the room , watched TV and I anxiously awaited my spa appointment for 7:15pm.. We went out for our last stroll on Barceloneta, shared a paella and called it a night! We have a 7am train to Madrid for tomorrow AM. We really enjoyed Barcelona. There really is no comparison for Spain to Italy so it's hard to say whether you like one more than the other. The vibe is totally different here. There are a lot of museums to visit - a few main attractions but I think most people could see everything in 3 days. I am glad we ... read more

Happy New Years Eve and Happy Anniversary to us!! Today we decided to do the Barcelona Turistica - Hop On /Hop Off bus to catch some of the sights that we didn't make it too or were to far of a distance for walking. This should be a relaxing day since this afternoon we DO need to nap for our NYE Party which is from 10pm-6am! Yeah - not making it until 6am... We looped all around the city on the 2 different lines, we went to a park that wasn't on our list, botanica gardens and saw the famous Barca stadium! We rounded out the afternoon with a few tapas and a stop at the Santa Caterina market. We then headed back to the W to rest up. We had a great evening at Eclipse. ... read more

Good Morning Everyone! Can I tell you what a relaxing pace we are able to do with this much time in the schedule to bounce around from city to city! There are no alarm clocks and whatever we don't see today gets moved to the list tomorrow. I was so worried about the " aggressive" itinerary of 2 countries but I really can't begin to tell you that we are more relaxed than any other Euro trip we have had :) The only difference is that we are starting later in the day so we don't come back for naps and unfortunately - these Catalans start their evening LATE - restaurants don't open for dinner until 8-9pm.. and more commonly 10:00pm seems to be the time that everyone starts eating dinner. 11pm these restaurants are overflowing.. ... read more

What a great ride to FCO by Mr. Massimo from Sabino Pagan tours! Nice, pleasant and comfortable! We are on our way to Veuling Airlines for our flight to Barcelona. Naturally, we have brought too many clothes and are over the kg quota for taking luggage on the plane. Unlike our Norway adventure, where we had to throw out our clothes in the airport..we arranged for a piece of luggage to be sent back home :) Luggage Free - the best service! As we are descending into Barcelona airport, we spot our hotel from the plane. We already know it's off the beaten path of the Ramblas - but we want to Ring in the New Year at Eclipse and we feel this will be all around easiest for us. It will mean a few extra ... read more

So today we are going to Laundry at the self serve laundromat - YIPPEE, HOORAY - obviously NOT my idea ;) 29 euros or..$38.50 to do 3 loads of laundry - not kidding.. so anyway, I am on mission for us to get this done quickly. I want to head to the Borghese Gallery and over to Travestere for a late lunch early dinner! Mission accomplished!! And it was a mission to learn that "system" - lol! We finalized our city touring and headed over to Travestere about 3pm. Ooohh it's so cool over here - very unlike the area we are staying. It is super laid back, very artsy- cute shops and tons os restaurants down every alley. We ended up having a divine white, shredded zucchini and cheese pie at Dar Poeta pizzeria - ... read more
