Wow - love the reflecting pool. It makes me think about my backyard, which is just about the right shape. And the functioning fountain from the 1300s - amazing, even if the hidden plumbing had been updated. What a place to live.

Reflecting pool at the Alhambra palace
The pool and its spiritual feel was the feature I remember the best. Quiet, focused and natural.

Great trip, great time
You and Barry are the best!

That's too bad about Casablanca, but your views of Rabat are excellent. I wonder if we have ever had anything/one in our affairs of state that we would choose to honour with perpetual prayer. That speaks to the difference in world views more than anything I can think of.

Morocco
Glad you like the trip. As you say, my photography has improved after 33 years! So have cameras!
23rd June 2022

You've done some amazing travelling and this trip to Marrakech almost 33 years ago is no exception. Interesting to see how your interest in photography has grown/changed - maybe in part due to the move from film to digital. The ceiling (mosaic tile?) is fabulous. Imagine the logistics of creating it . . .

Love your shot of the cleaner at/of the gates -- and the intricate mosaic (?) layered around it. I hope your subsequent meals were better. Your comments about navigating the market are a good reminder that it isn't always smart to launch on one's own.

Scenes in Fes
The photo of the cleaner at the gate is one of my all time favourites. And, nothing like a guide when you don't know where you are going.

You must have taken great notes: your memories as presented here are delightfully vivid. Thanks for the taste of Spain without the jet lag.

Memories and Notes
This was early in my note-taking. Good notes on some things, and other things left out altogether. Glad you enjoyed the "trip".

Bow River
Vaguely remember walking along the Bow River with the family some time in the early 80's. The kids loved taking the light rail from our motel to downtown and passing the Saddledome. Are you covering the "Battle of Alberta" between the Flames and the Oilers?

Bow River Pathway
You must return and walk the very long pathway along the Bow River.

I have some vague memory of the lower deck of Centre Street Bridge being closed to vehicles. That would be from a while ago. Now I'll have to look it up. Calgary is so fortunate to have the mountains both accessible and as a backdrop. Loved the snow picnic.

Big Hill Spring Falls
Love the photos of the Big Hill Springs Falls. They look like beautiful paintings.

Big Hill Springs Falls
Thank you! The falls are beautiful.

I know, and yet still manage to forget, how much sky there is on the Prairies. Love the shots of the steel-blue Bow River and the bald eagle.

Big Skies
I know I am a prairie girl because I miss the big, wide skies whenever I am somewhere else.

Another new park
I swear, you could take a river walk every week in Calgary for a year and enjoy a new park. (I keep meaning to get to the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary but never quite make it.) Great shots of some of the defining features of this one.

Calgary Parks
Calgary is one of the most forested cities in Canada, and after a couple years of walking in parks, I know why.
22nd April 2022

As much as I love travelling, I love seeing what is in my own backyard so to speak. Thanks for sharing

Back yard travel
Seeing our own neighbourhoods as tourists might is a delightful form of exploration.
22nd April 2022

Fun!
Kevin Chow's benches are both whimsical and individual - a great range of styles coming from one artist. And the utility boxes are fabulous. Public spaces - especially in downtown areas - deserve this level of attention.
24th April 2022

Painted utility boxes
Such a good decision some years ago by The City to treat utility boxes as canvases. The art is contextual to its neighbourhood.

Landscapes
Not my fort, eh, but I particularly like the one with COP and the mountains. I don't think I've ever walked in Nose Hill Park, but Mom used to go up there to see crocuses.

Nose Hill Park
Nose Hill Park is a landscape of natural prairie, a wonderful place in a city. It used to be on the edge of Calgary, but is now surrounded by urban growth.
