Fumbles aside, you got there. Hurray! Looking forward to these posts. Your hotel looks delightful, and I *bet* that bed was welcoming after a day in transit.

Sheep River
I hadn't heard of the Sheep River -- another for my list of places around Calgary. I particularly like your two shots of blue water cutting through the white snow. When I see a goose out on a frozen pond, I always wonder if they're wondering what the heck happened. As in, where is the water that's supposed to be here? With respect to buds on trees, I expect that every day that passes validates your vision.

Canada Goose
I am not sure what geese think, but they do seem to ponder, except when they are chasing us out of their way.

Sheep River
I loved our walk along the Sheep River loop that you so perfectly described.

These posts are interesting in themselves, and also because they remind me of how little feel I have for the topography of where I live or have lived. In Edmonton, I'm aware of the river valley (who isn't?); in Calgary, I know the Bow River and environs. What I don't have a good overall picture of in my head is the smaller-scale ups and downs and the kind of land in various parts of the City (grassland, river flat, forest). I need a drone . . .

Calgary Parklands
The variety of parklands in and around Calgary surprised me. Living here we have a general idea of the landscape. Experiencing the particular landscapes has been an education.

Very atmospheric! I still haven't figured out how to capture fog/clouds with a camera as strongly as my eye does. I think my favourites are the ones with some blue peeking through, but they are all evocative. I'm reaching for my own sweater. Nice to have such clear memories from (almost) 10 years ago.

Lac Beauvert
Glad I made you imagine shivering!

You saw a lot more natural areas than I would have expected from my own limited exposure to Bermuda. I love the anoles. We've seen them in Myrtle Beach and there are wee lizards of some sort here, although I haven't seen any this year. I checked out Johnny Barnes on Wiki. What a lovely legacy.

Wild Bermuda
Well, maybe not as wild as in some place, but beautiful plants and scenes

The water continues to enchant. Such lovely shades. Your story about your "forced" march/walk reminded me of a movie I saw recently about a Canadian who went North to teach for one season to pay off student loans, and started a local lacrosse team. He jogged around town for exercise, completely confusing the residents, who kept offering him rides on their snowmobiles.

Inexplicable sports
Great story and an exact parallel

We were there too
In December of 2013 we went to Bermuda for 5 days. Don't remember very much. We were still based in New York, and the flight was nice and short. Stayed at the Grotto Bay Beach Resort. Trip was relaxing, did parts of the Railroad Trail and walked to some places near the hotel. The public bus service was terrific . There was a snow storm in New York on the day we were leaving and we were hoping our flight would be cancelled so we could stay an extra day or two. No such luck. It was neat to go thru US Customs in Bermuda so we didn't have to do that when we landed at La Guardia.

Fun travels
Bermuda is wonderfully relaxing with just enough stimulation to keep a happy mind. On the crazy side of travel, thanks for recommending Isabella Bird. I am reading Letters to Henrietta, a startling record of real adventure travel!

One of the advantages of a small group and a resourceful guide: the ability to adapt on the ground. Such a beautiful spot - the colour of the water is amazing. The combination of (what I think of as) desert plants and seaside ones is fascinating. That business of the low-rise buildings and the view of the cathedral - a happy accident or deliberate city planning?

Beautiful Bermuda
Building heights are regulated, just as you intuited.

Prairie
Interested to read others' comments. I've lived out East (ok, Ontario, but that is east of centre) and on the Western edge of this continent but I was born on the prairies. The final photo made me want to say "THIS is what a park looks like where I'm from!"...and to dispel any incredulity, yes, I would mean that in a good way. : )

Bermuda
Happy to expand your understanding. Worth another visit.

Calgary Parks
Glad that our parks bring back good memories. Thanks.

Douglas Fir
There are -- or were -- Douglas Fir somewhere along there. I don't know Calgary's NW very well, but the late Gus Yaki led botany walks along the Bow River south shore and in the vicinity of the current Stony Trail Bridge construction (before that got all torn up) he pointed out Douglas Fir trees. I sure hope the trees weren't lost to construction. An easy way to ID Douglas Fir is by their distinctive cones, which you can find on the ground nearby. There is a story attributed to First Nations (google Douglas Fir mouse story) that the Douglas Fir offered forest mice shelter during a terrible fire, and so to this day you can see little mouse butts and tails sticking out from beneath the scales on their cones. : )

Fascinating - and a perfect example of why business travel is (or can be) so limited. I had no idea that Bermuda had no rivers, or that their economy was so managed. Looking forward to more surprises! (Your beach and rock photos show a striking landscape very well.)

I was in Bermuda once on a business trip and felt that the whole island was an extended city/town. There seemed to be none of the "empty/wide-open" areas I see in Canada - farm or ranchland (near Calgary, for example) or farmland and scrub forest (near Ottawa, for example). I'll be interested to see what you saw, as it were. I also know that "can't stay awake but can't sleep sitting up" state - yuck! At least your destination was warm and beautiful.

Bermuda
Indeed, there are no wide open spaces in Bermuda. Much of their food is imported, and water is from the skies. Of course, sea food is abundant.
