Got woke up by the room phone ringing we had over slept and the rest of the group were in the hotel lobby waiting for us, met our tour guide Joe who went through the itinerary for the day. Straight on coach and off to do tour of New Delhi and old Delh, visited the largest mosque in India (jama masking - the largest mosque in India)) had to take our shoes off and the floor was red hot but we coped!! Had a rickshaw ride round the old Delhi market which was good, with it being Sunday lots of the shops were closed, highlight of the day for me was visiting mahatma Gandhi’s tomb and hearing the story about his life and listening to the history of how India became so divided oh and we ... read more

Well after a very long flight, which I must say was lovely, food good, service good and even managed to watch 3 movies we landed in Delhi. The journey to our hotel was amazing how people drive here amazes me, no one sticks to their lanes and everyone drives like maniacs with a lot of tooting of horns. Very surprised at our hotel, pure luxury. After checking in we went for a stroll to the local shopping area, hardly the metro centre but Julie still managed to buy 2 new items of clothing. Back at the hotel we went for a swim but didn’t stay in to long as we were surrounded by mosquitoes, we then showered and changed and went to the Indian restaurant in the hotel where I must say the food and service ... read more

Europe » Italy » Campania » Pompei October 20th 2017

Well last day in Italy, undecided what to do at first but then decided to go to naples leave our bags at station and have a good look round, train journey was only 25 minutes and it's where we were flying out from this evening. Big mistake, what an awful place, very run down and lots of cars rooting horns constantly, walked through a few markets and sat and had a quick bite to eat but apart from that there was nothing else to do, luckily the weather was glorious so we ended up sitting outside a little cafe outside the station and just soaked up the suns rays before hitting freezing cold England again. Sat for a while but when we got propositioned by a very old, very ugly, very scruffy man we thought it ... read more

Europe » Italy » Campania » Pompei October 19th 2017

Well after a surprisingly good night sleep we headed of to the train station to see where we could spend today, not a lot more to do in Pompeii, think it's more a place where they bring you on excursions to see the ruins. After a lot of deliberation (1 minute) we jumped in the train to Sorrento, 40 minute trip, €10 for 2 return, not bad going. Very pleasantly surprised, what a lovely place, we decided to have breakfast! More like a 3 course meal, there was everything, bacon, sausage you name it and all for €12, don't think we'll eat again today. Had a walk up & down the narrow streets browsing in the shops, me looking for a swimming costume Kelley looking for a coat??? Weather was lovely??? Walked down to the harbour, ... read more

Well after not a good nights sleep, very noisy outside and certainly not an airbnb I would recommend we headed off to the airport for flight to Naples, last leg of tour, a good flight 1 hour followed by shuttle bus to centre and then train to Pompeii, was cheap but took a few hours, had problem finding our hotel, the boutique Pompeii hotel, oh dear we have now renamed it 'The Bates Motel' the first room they give us was a double room with double bed & words cannot describe the shower area! Put it this way! What is privacy?? After asking to be moved we then got a room with a double bed and a bunk bed & im sure it's on the slip road of a very busy motorway (not looking forward to ... read more

Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice October 17th 2017

Early start, train to Venice at 8.25, train not as busy as I thought it would be and only €9 per ticket. Plan was to go to our accommodation, dump bags & head into Venice.......missed our stop went straight to Venice just left our bags in the luggage hold in station no problemo!!! Had a lovely omelette in a street cafe and just wondered the lovely narrow streets, we did see a queue of people waiting to go into a building after asking a lady what they were waiting for and being told it was go o to a viewing platform we sort of tagged on and joined the tour, views were lovely although mist was quite low. While sitting by the grand canal we met a lovely couple from Oxford so we sat chatting to ... read more

Europe » Italy » Lombardy » Milan October 16th 2017

Early morning, left hotel at 8am, trains to Verona very expensive at this time of morning so decided to have breakfast here and get a later train OMG the size of the coffee's thought they were samples didn't realise we were being charged. Arrived in Verona just after 1not a bad train journey, Tonight we're staying in a airb&b, after trying a few wrong doors we finally found the right on, top floor of an apartment block, quite nice and we get the whole place to ourselves, we basically dumped our bags and went exploring, once you get to the centre what a brilliant place after Milan more what I expect from Italy. We had a walk round The Cathedral complex and then went into The Arena Amphitheatre. After a lovely Cannelloni (was nice) we went ... read more

Europe » Italy » Lombardy » Milan October 15th 2017

Early start to Manchester airport for flight to Milan, good flight chatting to lots of nice people, one man and his son were on there way there for one night to see the Milan football match. About a 25 minute bus journey into the city and then a 20 minute walk to hotel, literally dumped our bags and went site seeing. Found the Duomo what a beautiful building can never understand how they could build buildings like that all those years ago without the machines we have now and yet today it takes us months to build a big standard house????? Walked round the square there had been a charity run on for cancer so lots of ladies in pink t shirts. Stopped for ..... quess what???? Pizza! Was really nice then just wondered through the ... read more

Africa » Kenya » Nairobi Province June 12th 2017

Breakfast at 7, cereal, lady guide came at 7.45 to take us round a local village, she explained how the villagers were living in real poverty until a charity stepped in and showed them how to harvest, knit, sew & make jewellery, they also set up a school for the children. First thing was visiting the local children's nursery where they all came out and sang us a song. We were then welcomed to where they do their crafts by a group of ladies singing & dancing, of course we all joined in. Back at camp we had lunch and then walked down to the lake to board boats to see the rhinos, scenery was brilliant, the guide whistled, threw a fish in the water and we watched the sea eagles swoop down to eat ... read more
