We were both up by 6am....neither had a good nights sleep....Jacqui couldn't sleep because her back was giving her a lot of problems...Its been playing up since sleeping on the mattress in the cold school room.....and the room was very hot and stuffy...... I told Jacqui that we were going to send her backpack forward.....that was the easy part...I had to try and organise it.......I found a german guy who spoke english but didn't speak spanish.....he found a german guy who spoke spanish but no english....so what ever I asked had to go through the german man to the other german guy to the spanish guy back to the german man to the other german man back to me.......it was a long process but I got the message through to what I wanted to do....I had ... read more

We left at about 8am after collecting our clothes from in front of the fire...everything was dry.....we had breakfast before we left....we had luke warm toast....very nice.....doesnt take much for us to get excited these days...... We climb to the Cruz de Ferro which is highest point of the whole walk today...1505m ......we have been steadily climbing so today it is only a 400m climb..... The Cruz de Ferro is a humble monument to mark a noble gateway. This simple iron cross stands on a weathered pole which has become one of the symbols of the pilgrim way of St James. At the base of the cross is a steadily growing pile of stones from people that have either picked one up along the way or bought with them from their home to place all there ... read more

On the road by 7.30....very cold and misty...quite flat but hills in the distance.....we stopped for Toast and coffee a couple of kms down the road......walk into this very big warm homely great fantastic place.....had we walked 2 more k's we could have spent the night here....If we only new....never mind wouldn't have got the education on the running of the albergues or get to act like a pig to have pork for tea...... We took heaps of photo's of mist.... stone walls.... and old buildings....just never get tired of the scenery and try to capture it all on the camera for later..... There were quite a few people on the track as we started walking....saw the horses up ahead but couldn't catch up with them...hadn't seen them for a while but see their deposits on ... read more

What a beautiful day for walking.....the surroundings are getting back to hills, slopes and trees around us....the walks are getting interesting again with great views.....We are making our stop tonight at Astorga......population 12000..... We came across a shed /building which had hot water coffee tea some ,biscuits, bread and peanut butter ......haven't seen that on the walk before.....It was a donation so I emptied all my loose change......Ange and James the Texans and the Irish guys we had met earlier caught up to us.....had a quick hello..... had a bite to eat took some fruit and kept on walking.....the ground was flat but in the distance were mountains with snow on their peaks and a very icy cold wind blowing off of them which kept us walking...... We arrived at Astorga and had to walk right ... read more

After making a hot cup of coffee we started walking at about 7.30....We have about 4km and we will be away from the flat country and back to hills and trees and a change in the country side...am looking forward to that... One of the towns we passed through had a whole heap of bird nests in a group of trees.....I have never seen so many nests grouped together.....we found later down the track that they were like a crow and were protected...... we walked uneventfull and arrived at our next town at about 3pm.....we had been handed a card by a person that had ridden out along the track on a push bike advertising their albergue's.....we are getting more of that as we get closer to bigger towns.....sometimes cards are left on the posts that ... read more

Started walking at 8am.......the weather is cool but very calm...great walking weather.....The country side is still much the same.....flat surrounded by cereal crops....the walks are quite boring and not a lot picture taking done..... Will be glad to walk out of the Messeta and start climbing hills again......We stopped along the way and ate some fruit....there were signs of rain all day but we haven't had any yet We hit the out skirts of Leon population 130,000....we dont have any interest in the big cities...the pace of life slows down so much when we walk at aprox 3 to 4 k's a hr every day.....when we come across highways with cars we are so sure they are speeding pass us...but am sure they are travelling at a normal speed. The hustle and bustle of cities can ... read more

Started walking by 8am ....the host was pretty keen to get us out.....had a quick breakfast and moved on.....was drizzling rain but very calm...nice change always seems to be a bit of wind....Rosie Antony and Craig were behind us most of the way untill we stopped for a coffee....The Bar had bacon and eggs in a fresh roll...couldn't resist...so endulged.....Jacqui went to the toilet and came back ...told me to sit on the side cause the seat will bite...It did there was a crack in the seat....I dont think there are to many rules and regulations on the size of the toilets...some of the rooms are so small that I have to sit side ways cause there isn't enough room in front to put my legs.....Didn't warn the next girl going in she came out complaining ... read more

We started our day walking at about 7.30 after having a rough nights sleep....Jacqui coughing me feeling bit weird in the stomach and people vomiting everywhere....we were quite pleased to be on our way and escape the nunnery...I knew it wasn't for me We decided not to stop for breakfast as we had food in our backpacks and would sit and eat down the track. We had 17 km to walk and knew there wasn't any where to buy a coffe but there was a town in between to sit and eat and rest. We saw a couple of guys on our way with horses....They were doing the camino on horse back.....great way to go....walking on four feet not two.... have seen quite a few people doing it on bikes...they do ride on the main roads ... read more

Had another short walk today only 18km......It was either stay here or walk another 17km with nothing in between.....Jacqui is still flat and her heel is hurting so I think 18 is enough...... Our walk today was over quite flat country......the sun was out but the wind was still cold hitting us from the side.....Have been worse days for walking...We met up with Patrick and chatted for a bit as we walked....I feel he may walk on today and not stay in Carron....... We got in at about 12.30 and found a Nunnery to stay in.... Went through the front door met by a little old nun who didn't speak any english.....She led us through another.....was starting to wonder if I was committed for life.....bit scarey me in a nunnery... the two just dont go together.......We ... read more
