I really enjoyed swimming in the sea, the salty water adds to buoyancy, so it makes it easier to swim than in pool water. Once the storm was over that first and second day, the weather was very warm, it felt so refreshing to jump into the cool, but not too cool water for the next swim or just to jump in and cool of during lunch. One of the swims included two channel crossings (island to island swim). We crossed from the islands of Rakintnjak to Oblick, then to another island, I do not know the name. I was nervous about this, as I have that fear of deep water when I can not see the bottom. I was encouraged by my team mates to enjoy the beauty of the unending blue water and the ... read more

Well the trip that brought me here was as unforgettable as I could have imagined. Swimming in crystal warm water clear water with amazing people. The location was a small island off of Brodarica, Croatia called Krapanj (the J is silent), it is known for it's sea sponges, someone mentioned that the hotel we were in used to be a sponge processing factory. The hotel was nice, as you should have seen in the previous picture, I had an amazing view. I had to sleep with the window open though, for some reason, my room did not have any air conditioning. I tolerated it fine however, it came with a fan and it was lovely to sleep with the window open. I was woken right at the correct time everyday by the sun streaming through the ... read more

I came in this morning at 0700AM on a Croatian train, once I got here I needed to figure out how I was going to clean up and where I was going to leave my backpack while I explored Split until the afternoon when I was to take the shuttle to Brodarica. It took me awhile to find the bathroom, there was none inside the train station, it was a short walk out on the very crowded sidewalk. It cost some Kuna, that is the currency in Croatia. So I had to get some Kuna from the cash machine first, then I had to buy a Cappucino to get change. I freshened up in the bathroom, packed up my bag for the day and took my backpack to a store front that stored luggage. I had ... read more

Today I start my travel to Croatia, I slept in a little, had my last breakfast at the pension, packed up and headed out. I went back to the market to pick up some more bread, fruit and cheese, unfortunately, there was no farmers market this time. I caught a bus to Salzberg, then picked up my train to Zagreb. I had ended up with a first class ticket since it was less expensive than the second class ticket because it could not be exchanged. Once I got to Salzberg I had a yummy falafal gyro and got to sit in the first class lounge while I waited for my train. I had a nice compartment with 4 seats, very comfortable. When I got into my reserved compartement, there was a lady that was stretched out ... read more

On the train to Zagreb, another hour and a half to go. Then an overnight train to Split. It looks like home here in the winter time, it's raining. Now hearing a totally different language then I have the last week. Still don't understand it, of course. No wifi on the train, so not sure when I will post next. I'll be at my hotel on the island of Krapanj tomorrow night. There was a fire in Hallstat, it's following me.... read more

The next morning the fire was still burning in Hallstat, Madame Sydler said that there was another salt mine at Altaussee, I could take the train and then a bus to get there. I have been listening to a book about salt, in preparation to go to a salt mine, so I decided I did not want to miss the opportunity if I could help it. At the TI they told me that there is not a direct bus, I would have to take a taxi, they have a 'cheap' taxi service in Bad Ausee, 9.50 euro each way. I pondered what to do, I really wanted to go to a salt mine. The next train was a few mins or a couple of hours, I decided to take my time and walk around Bad Goisern, ... read more

I made it to Bad Goisern, where I am to spend the next three nights. I was so happy to get back to the mountains and less tourists. I was a little worried about finding my place with out the directions on my phone. My phone has been off and on having charging issues, as I said before, luckily it had enough charge to give me some quick directions. It is a very small town, it is a 10 minute walk from the train station to my Pension. What a cute and very quaint village, there are many fruit trees growing up the walls and in the yards, pears, apples, and prunes is what I am seeing the most of. A Pension, is like a B & B, it was less expensive than a hostel and ... read more

Monday August, 20th Zugspitze was worth the trip, panoramic views of the Alps and surrounding area. There are a few steps to get there from the main train station. First, you take a train up to the base of the mountain to Lake Eibsee ( you have to change trains half way up), then you get on a cable car that holds 100 people (this recently opened last December) or you take another train that takes 45 mins to the Glacier below the top and then another cable car to the top. I chose the cable car because I read it was better and it only takes 10 minutes. The cable car goes basically straight up to the top of the mountain, 2900 meters, I am sure the pics do not do it justice, but it ... read more

8.20.18- Reutte I just ran to catch a train for Garmisch which I missed by 30 sec, it drove off as I ran up, it left 2 min early. I was having a lovely breakfast at my hotel which I pondered staying at, but wanted to get to Zugspitz before it rained later today. Oh well. The breakfast consisted of a variety of cheeses, yogurt, fruit, bread, lunch meats and spreads. You could boil your own egg in a cute little egg boiler that they had, each handle held an egg in the hot water and there were small 5 minute sand timers for you to take so you remember your egg. I made one, though I should have left it in for longer, it was barely cooked. I was seated in a indoor/outdoor patio, you ... read more
