Day 12 (Saturday, April 4th, 2009) After reluctantly waking up, we left the hotel in Cordoba just after 10:00 and began the long drive up to Toledo. It was cloudy out that morning, but we had heard weather reports predicting 70 degrees, so we were hopeful that the sun would find it's way out. Sure enough, about one hour into our drive, the clouds eventually gave way to the sun. About 2 hours and 45 minutes into our drive, we stopped off at a city called Consuegra to see it's famous windmills. Most of Spain's windmills are found in the province of La Mancha, which is located in the central part of the country. It has been said by many that the best examples of these restored windmills can be found in Consuegra, which has ... read more

Day 11 (Friday, April 3rd, 2009) We had initially planned on waking up this day at 8:30, but we didn’t end up rolling out of bed until 9:40. For some reason, we were both incredibly exhausted that morning; Mike thought it might have been due to the excessive amount of walking we had done the day prior in Sevilla. We finally left the hotel in Sevilla around 10:45. We then had to walk 20 minutes in order to reach the parking garage. Once we settled ourselves into the car, we drove about 1.5 hours until we reached Cordoba. Finding our hotel in Cordoba was an absolute nightmare due to the one-way streets. Our navigation system kept telling us to turn onto streets that we we were unable to, so it made finding the hotel nearly ... read more

Day 9 (Wednesday, April 1st, 2009) We left Arcos de la Frontera early in the morning and headed out to Sevilla. The drive took about one and a half hours, and included passing through a toll road, which we had to pay 3 Euros to drive on. As we approached the outskirts of Sevilla, I was pleased with what I saw; the city appeared clean, and had lots of palm trees and other vegetation, and most of the buildings seemed well cared for. Just as we had hoped, we were able to easily find the parking garage we had planned on parking in near our hotel without any issues. Unfortunately, we soon realized that the garage was only available for residents of the neighborhood to use. As we did not have a plan b, I ... read more

Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Ronda March 30th 2009

Day 7 (Monday, March 30th, 2009) Having a full day's schedule ahead of us, we woke up at the unnatural time of 06:00, leaving our hotel in Granada by 6:30. We walked through the quiet and dark streets of Granada to the parking garage. Upon arrival, we were required to insert our parking ticket into the machine so that we could pay the fee. This part of the process went smoothly, but when Mike attempted to pay with our credit card, we had problems as the machine stated “unable to read” UGH! Instead, Mike attempted to insert a 50 Euro bill into the machine, but for whatever reason, it wouldn’t accept it. After about ten minutes, Mike gave up and went looking for an attendant of the garage in order to get some help. Meanwhile, ... read more

Day 5 (Saturday, March 28th, 2009) After feeling absolutely exhausted the night before, we woke up at about 7:00 on our fifth day in Spain in order to get ready for our 10:30 flight to Granada. After checking out of the hotel, we took the train to the airport where we arrived in plenty enough time for our departing flight to Granada. Once inside our terminal, we wandered around for quite some time, looking for a place to eat. While there were five million different stores to choose from, there were only a handful of eateries, but we eventually settled on one near our gate. We both had a sandwich (ham for me and sausage for Mike) and shared a sweet croissant. We had obtained cheap tickets through Spanair for only $40 per person to ... read more

Europe » Spain » Catalonia » Barcelona March 24th 2009

In all honesty, Spain was not on my "must see" list of places to go, nor was it even on my radar, until about nine months prior to our trip. While it was definitely a country I figured I would visit at some point in my lifetime, I had no yearning to visit it so soon. In fact, Mike and I had been planning on visiting Argentina for two weeks in March of 2009 but insanely expensive airfare between the destinations we planned to visit within Argentina pushed the trip out of our budget. I was quite disappointed as I had very much wanted to experience Argentina. While discussing our dilemma with my sister, she brought up the idea of traveling to Spain as an alternative to Argentina. The two countries had obvious similarities; Spanish language, ... read more

North America » United States » Florida » Miami January 8th 2009

Our trip to Southern Florida was planned far less in advance than most of our other trips usually are. In fact, it was on quite a whim that we decided to come visit this area. I had received a good deal on a ticket voucher through my Delta Skymiles account. Having visited warm Puerto Vallarta, Mexico the previous January, I thought it might be fun to try another sunny destination during the following January. My ticket voucher could only be applied towards a destination in the United States, so one day, I randomly asked Mike "What would you thinking about traveling to Miami in January?". Mike replied something like "I don't know...I guess it sounds okay". And, thus was created yet another journey for Mike and Jennifer. Our trip occurred over a period of six days ... read more

For years, Mike and I had discussed the possibility of traveling to New York City for our anniversary during the first part of December. For whatever reason, we never committed to this idea until my sister decided to go to Graduate school on the East Coast. Given the fact that I had an additional day off paid during the week of Thanksgiving, we decided that was the best time to go. Mike had visited New York once in the past and seen many of the major sights. As a result, I left prior to him on Monday in order to have extra sightseeing time while he arrived two days after I did. Day 1: (Tuesday, November 25th, 2008) I took another red-eye flight from Seattle, which left at 23:00 PST, and arrived at JFK in New ... read more

After my younger sister Kimberly was accepted into graduate school at the School for International Training (SIT) in Brattleboro Vermont, I realized that I would probably be making several trips over to the East coast during the duration of her schooling. My sister and I have grown to become very close, and it was difficult for me to imagine being away from her for over a year! The first trip we planned was an extended weekend away in Boston, Salem, and Plymouth Massachusetts. She would rent a car in Brattleboro, Vermont and drive down to meet me in Boston. We planned the trip to occur during the third weekend in October to coincide with the Halloween festivities in Salem and the beautiful changing of fall leaves in Massachusetts. I was so excited to visit this region ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris September 29th 2008

Day 25 (Monday, September 29th) As we had booked both of our flights to Europe through our frequent flier program, we did not have the most desirable flight options to chose from. When I attempted to reserve our return flight, they had no flights available out of Prague. I had to become creative, so we decided to book the return flight out of Paris as they had a direct one available to Seattle. However, this entailed having to get from Prague to Paris. As a result, I ended up booking two cheap flights on Sky Europe airlines from Prague to Paris, which left Prague at the unfriendly time of 6:40 in the morning. We begrudgingly woke up on Monday morning at 4:00. At 4:45, our taxi arrived that Pasquale had arranged for us in order ... read more
