We're on the road again! We have free time between now and school holidays so decided we'd load the motor home once more and hit the highway. We were held up not far out of Sydney by a long cement bridge span falling from a truck, but after an hour's wait, we could get going again. This time we headed north-west from Raymond Terrace - Morpeth, the beautiful country of Patterson and Dungog, and on to Muswellbrook. The caravan parks were all full, mostly of permanents - miners - there are a lot of coal mines in the area. However, we were able to park at the end of a road in the caravan park for the night, and being self sufficient, we were quite OK with that. Today we drove through Scone, 'the horse capital' ... read more

This is our last night away. We had a couple of nice days at Woolgoolga, spent walking on the beach to the lake, reading under the awning, chatting to the other campers and wandering the few little shops there. We extended our stay by another day and, as always seems to happen lately, the weather changed to grey and cool and, finally, to pouring rain. We left Woopi this morning, first going up to the headland for the 360degree view of the ocean and Woolgoolga, but no whales today. Doug did see quite a few from the headland yesterday. We did a bit of shopping at Coffs and then had lunch with Barbara and Jim at Macksville. It was a slow trip then in pouring rain - we were sick of it so decided to have ... read more

We are back at Woolgoolga, we arrived and were setting up just as the Melbourne Cup was running! I was wondering why the campers were all sitting together sipping champers! One year we must get involved in the festivities again! We went to look out to sea and there was a whale, not that far out, leaping out of the water. We thought we'd missed them - there are supposedly over 12,000 whales returning to the Antarctic after breeding in northern waters but we've seen only 2 or 3 this year. It's been a good couple of days. From Byron Bay we drove along the coast towards Ballina and found a couple of new (to us) beaches - Suffolk Park and a very nice one, Tallow Beach at Broken Head. These are around the southern side ... read more

We enjoyed our weekend at Hastings Point very much. It was a quiet little coastal town but is being discovered - our small caravan park was full over the weekend. The river opposite was very popular with young families and I was wishing I'd donned cossie to have a swim in the not-too-cool water. We did paddle in the river as we walked along the edge to the ocean, interested to see quite a few terns amongst the gulls, we haven't seen a group of them before. There is a pole with a platform, put there no doubt for the osprey who have built a nest and are busy feeding their new babies. It was interesting to watch the osprey dive into the water and fly back to the nest with a fish between its claws. ... read more

Well, here we are travelling again. This is just a quick trip .. north to make a furniture delivery for Jason and one we wanted to do before covering the motor home for summer. We left home on Tuesday, calling in to visit friends Carole and Joe at Taree and spending the night at Port Macquarie. Yesterday we kept on our fast trip north staying overnight at beautiful Ballina. The waterway there is truly great, the beaches wonderful as are all those on the NSW coast. Our only diversion was to Grafton where we once more went to see the lovely jacarandas in flower. We love to drive up and down the Grafton streets to see the mauve flowers on the trees and carpetted on the ground, they really are a beautiful sight. The prettiness continued ... read more

This is the last night of our holidays. We've had a great 10 weeks, even though the weather has been a bit iffy the last few days. After a night at Evans Head, we settled into our four nights at Woolgoolga. The weather there wasn't good - grey, windy, big seas and finally rain. We had some time at Coffs Harbour to fill in time in the rain - having photos developed and also having a look around the waterfront ... more big seas there and at Sawtell. We caught up with Barbara and Jim at Macksville, staying overnight there. We left in rain this morning, but the sun was shining and it was lovely and warm by the time we got to Bulahdelah. Tonight we're at Swansea, with the wind that's just come up tossing ... read more

I think the beaches from the Sunshine Coast in SE Queensland and down the NSW coast to Victoria are some of the best in Australia and Byron Bay is amongst them with it's long fine white sandy beach. Though we had a couple of cloudy days, our final day was sunny though a bit windy, nice to walk along the beach with the sun on us. We thought we must go up to the lighthouse before we left Byron Bay - it's been a few years - so once more our little motor home was puffing up the hill. The views from up there were magnificent .. to the north is Byron Bay beach, a long arc of sand which stretches all the way to Burleigh Heads, to the south, a long stretch of beach where ... read more

When we left the Gallery of Modern Art (and the Valentino Retrospective), and were on our way back to the wharf to catch the cat, we walked through the Art Gallery which is all but next door. We found there was a Hans Heysen exhibition on there. Hans Heysen's paintings are a favourite, twice we've been through his old home in the Adelaide foothills which is surrounded by the beautiful big white gum trees that he loved to paint .. and painted so well. I have a print of his painting of his wife at her sewing machine and it was on exhibition there .. nice to see the real McCoy again. I have a thing for sculpture and there are some nice pieces around the Art Gallery. I rather liked the pears inside the gallery, ... read more

It was hard to tear ourselves away from Noosa - it's so lovely there and we had perfect weather. We added another night to our stay and fitted in a day at the beach, a ferry ride down the river to Noosa Heads - always lovely to be on the water and see the parkland, shops and houses from a different perspective - and lunch at the Surf Club at the end of the beach. We had a front table and enjoyed our view of the beach and the swimmers. We left the caravan park yesterday morning and drove around the streets of Tewantin, passing a couple of houses we were very keen on winning in Art Unions several years ago. This road took us to the car ferry which crosses Lake Coroibah, the waterway that ... read more

We had a great time at Agnes Waters and then made for Burrum Heads. Unfortunately our weekend there consisted of grey days and strong wind, building up to rain on Sunday afternoon. We did get in a bit of walking along the riverfront and around the little shops there, but mostly it was spent inside the motor home, out of the weather. We decided against going on to Hervey Bay when Monday morning brought more showers, so we rang Tewantin - we were able to bring our 3 day booking forward to begin that night. It was the right call, as we hadn't gone all that many kilometres when the sky cleared and the sun shone.
