I think the beaches from the Sunshine Coast in SE Queensland and down the NSW coast to Victoria are some of the best in Australia and Byron Bay is amongst them with it's long fine white sandy beach. Though we had a couple of cloudy days, our final day was sunny though a bit windy, nice to walk along the beach with the sun on us.

We thought we must go up to the lighthouse before we left Byron Bay - it's been a few years - so once more our little motor home was puffing up the hill. The views from up there were magnificent .. to the north is Byron Bay beach, a long arc of sand which stretches all the way to Burleigh Heads, to the south, a long stretch of beach where surfers were having a great time riding the waves, just beyond them a pod of dolphins having fun too. To the west are the beautiful green hills and the ocean of course, is to the east. We could see quite a few spouts from whales out to sea and a mother whale and calf closer to the cliff. 50 years ago and watching the whalers cutting up a whale .. whaling was the industry there then, but thankfully those days are long past.

From Byron Bay, we drove up into the lush green countryside, very pretty dairy country, to Myocum and back to Bangalow and then along the green ridge of the hills with wonderful views over to the ocean, to Ballina. The Big Prawn and area underneath is now fenced off, soon to be demolished - last chance to look at a big, paler than normal huge cement (?) prawn with long feelers and big lights for eyes, folks!

Our next stop was Evans Head where we stayed overnight and today we're off to Woolgoolga for a few days. We've gone from 28 degrees every day to 24 and I think even lower expected the next couple of days. bbrrrr. Out come the thicker clothes again, still it was great while it lasted.

Happy Birthday on Sunday, Alex 😊 and all the best for Monday, Diane xx
