I'm just around the corner from your house Hey Katy!!!
Glad to hear you made it through the *very* long flight and are safely in Shanghai - minus any quarantine! I'm at the coffee shop just down the street from your place... physio, then heading back to YYC. From a "tourist" in Toronto to one across the sea... wishing you lots of love and good times through the weeks ahead!!

Happy trails Jambo! Hope that you have a safe travels back to Toronto and that good conversations continue with your group. Blessings and cannot wait to see your photos of big 5 (and several others)
Ubahn! Your story about the U-bahn brought back memories of my time in Germany on an exchange at 16 years old. It took getting lost on the U-bahn to make me realize I needed to learn the language and to rely less on my exchange partner! There were many tears shed that day :) and now my german is nicht schlect!!
looking forward to hearing all about your adventures in person!!
my mentor First, I am very fortunate to be able to share your experiences in the world, so I thank you for that. Second, did you ever notice that if you misspell the word "mentor" it ends up looking liking "menotaur", and there are some parallels. But only if you look for them. Third, I love ya kiddo and hope you are having a great journey. Miss ya!
Paul
Amazing Hey Katy!
Just wanted to say what an educated post that was! To read about these stories in our history texts are one thing, but to actually see it for what it really is, truly puts the experience into perspective. Looking forward to stories from Auschwitz and Krakow!

books Katy! Sounds like you are seeing a ton...I was thinking, you should write a book. Call it something to do with "the real way to learn; a teacher's travels." miss you.
so funny Hey Whit.
Thanks for the message. I am avoiding souvenirs at this moment... a lot of crap! Saw some great views of Vienna today from Leopoldsberg.
miss you.
love Katy
Katy "The Kiwi" LOL! I love your new nickname! NZ sounds wonderful! If there is one place I want to travel too, it would be there! I love the story about the waterfalls that form during the rainy weather, I'm sure that is a sight to see! Glad your having a great time!
Ryan
P.S. I made a mini snowman the other day! I'm sure its going to take a while for you to get used to this weather! AHHH!
Angkor Wat Sunrise : Mucho Coincidentay Great pictures of Angkor Wat Katy. I was amused as I was looking for my pictures of Angkor Wat and came across yours as we have the same surname.

The Angkor Wat sunrise also sets the scene for the entrance to my website also :

We went at a similar time of year to in late 2004. The build up was almost more atmospheric and exciting than the actual sunrise with all the people sitting on the relic on the inside of the entrance area waiting for the sunrise to happen.
Keep snapping O :-)
GOOD TIMES! Hey Katy! Glad to hear everything is going well! Looks like you're having a BLAST! WOW! By the way, I love the pics, they're absolutely hilarious! LOL! I guess you could call this Mr. Dressup, Vietnam Style!
Ryan
Vietnam sounds wicked! Hey Katy! Hope all is well! Too bad it's rainy where you are, but we're getting are fair share down here too! Actually, today wasn't so bad, one of the better days in a while! I'm just starting to recover from exam season, but it's coming up again, for which I am sorta in denial! Anyway, it sounds like you're having a BLAST, but that bike ride sounds like some kinda workout! WOOOOOOO! At least you got to see the beach afterwards! I'm sure that was rewarding! Can't wait to hear more stories! Take care! Stay safe!
sounds like fun Katy, it sounds like you are having a wonderful time, and all of the experiences sound great. It is rainy seson here too, so I understand how that can put a damper on things. My mom is visiting, and we have not done many tourist things because of the rain, and my lack of time.
Rememberance day is funny in countries that don't remember. It can come and go without a moments thought if you are not careful. But my mom and I observed a moment of silence together, and I mentioned it in church today, and we prayed for world peace as a church.
Glad you are enjoying the food! You will have to teach people when you get back what you learned in cooking class!
Remembrance Hey Katy!
So glad to hear from you again! I love reading your stories and insights from across the globe! I must say, the thing that struck me the most was the Killing Fields. I think it's definitely important to acknowledge the past, because it makes us understand the present. And especially since Nov 11th in coming up, I think it's absolutely critical we remember those who lost their lives in any type of war, battle, or invasion.
I should also say that I'm a little jealous about the food over there. I actually went out to dinner with a few friends last night, to the "Mongolian Grill," which was absolutely amazing! But I'm sure, that by physically being in that region, you the get that authentic taste! Can't wait to hear from you again! Take care, and all the best!
Ryan
Hey everyone,
I must admit I have the travel bug again but the travelling is slowing down just a little bit. After much travelling in Canada, Europe, Colombia, Grenada and Trinidad in the Caribbean I took a sabbatical from teaching to head off on a series of travel adventures to different parts of the world. My first stop-England, Wales, France and Monaco. My second trip from October to December I was in Asia and Southeast Asia-Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam and then south to New Zealand. In the spring I was in Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Germa... full info
