We received early departure from the ship, and were off by 7 a.m.! Now given that we had so much luggage for the train, we took a limo back to Rome. The driver was waiting for us when we disembarked from the ship. We were at the Hotel DePretis by 9, luggage secured and off to complete our Rome tour. We had decided to go back to some of the places we had been on the Walking tour of Rome at Night. We wanted to visit the Panthenon. This was closed the evening we toured. This is a marvelous building built primarily of marble. There is an opening in the top (yes it does rain in!). The building is set up so the rain runs out across the marble. It is an amazing building. Creative architecture. ... read more

We awake to our last day of our cruise. This is always a sad day in knowing this great time is coming to an end. We have breakfast in our room look out across the balcony. We walk on the top deck but the wind is the worst this week. It is so strong it moved me across the deck as I walked! We take time today to read, take in the art showing, lunch in the main dining room and try to go by the pool but the wind continues to be too strong. A nap, snacks, and soon it is dinner time. Our bags are nearly packed and ready to be put out for pick up. We get an early time to depart the ship, which is either really good for you or really ... read more

This is the last port day of a marvelous cruise with lots of ports. We are tired on this day and in no hurry to get up, around and off the ship. We have no plans with no tour scheduled.Though we could sleep in we are up early. Breakfast in our room, which you get nice choices on the Junior Suite menu. We take our time as we are thinking it might rain, though it clears off for us! So we disembark and for 3 Euro per person we have round trip tickets on the city bus to town then back. Not a bad deal. The bus drops you off in the heart of shopping. There is a very busy market with anything an everything imaginable for sale. From meats, vegetables, fruits to gift soap. This market ... read more

A Day in Ephesus, to walk where Paul walked and talked about in the Bible. This is the day we will cherish forever. This day is picture intensive. This day our tour will be with a private tour group arranged by a fellow Cruise Critic member on our Roll Call. We are to meet at 7 a.m. at the Promenade. Grumbling did take place to think we had to get up like going to work to meet for this tour! On the flip side and even then, knowing how important it is to get out early to avoid the congestion at Mary's House was important! We do have time to have some extra coffee at the Promenade Café and some breakfast sweets. We have our great water bottles, some rain ponchos and such in case of ... read more

Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens May 8th 2013

Athens on my birthday! It will be hard to ever top this birthday! We rise early and have breakfast in the Windjammer buffet. It is busy but not overwhelming. We find plenty of healthy foods to take us through to lunch. Take some coffee to go at the Café Promenade, then to the Ice Rink to wait for our tour. Yes the Ice Rink is cold and especially in the early morning! We took a ship tour, "Taste of Greece". There are several times to leave and about 4 bus loads of people. We are fortunate to be on an early tour. We finally head to the parking area, load on the bus and we are off. Then our bus winds through the country side into town and up to the Parthenon, a temple on the ... read more

Today is a day at sea. We sleep in at least until 6:30! We enjoy eating breakfast in the main dining room on these days. I personally love their Eggs Benedict with Hollandaise sauce. There is a nice buffet area with scrambled eggs, potatoes, fruit, breads you can get from the server, if you so desire. There are other breakfast items you can order also. Then off to the track to walk before our next adventure. It is windy and is challenging to walk but we do a good job! On this day we will meet up with people we have become friends with on www.cruisecritic.com and Royal Caribbean's Meet & Mingle Roll Call for our sailing. Royal Caribbean gives away gifts to each person. They had writing pads you carry around your neck to take ... read more

Europe » Italy » Sicily » Messina May 6th 2013

Our first port, Messina, Sicily. We had planned a ship tour to The Godfather Mansion. This was cancelled though and we did not find another ship tour we wanted. So, we slept in a bit, enjoyed breakfast in the Windjammer then off to see the city. The ship docks very close in and you don't have far to walk to get out of the area and about a block up to begin seeing the views. As we walked toward the main part of the city, we see horse drawn carriages. These carry several people, have a tour guide and the price is right at E 15. You can take the horse drawn carriage for a 45 minute tour or the train which is sort of like a train at the mall. Our first cruise to Nassau ... read more

Cruise Day is always a favorite day! We arise early and find it is raining! Not a downpour but enough of a drizzle to be noticeable. Nice that the breakfast area on the roof of the hotel has glass windows they are able to close. There is no one sitting outside this morning! Breakfast is basically the same as yesterday. It will be nice to be on the ship where there is "real" American coffee! The hotel calls for a taxi to take us to the Termini to catch the train. Now this is when the real adventure begins for this trip! We arrive at the station and take haul our bags through to track 27. We immediately meet this nice couple who are also on the cruise. Gary goes to the concession stand to buy ... read more
