Crossing the border I absorbed this blog feeling the heat, humidity and the tingue of apprehension one feels at a border when the questions of secret police can decide your fate. My knowledge of Pakistan is limited to what I have read and cricket. Its people from taxi drivers in Oz and Dubai and musicians I have interviewed at Womadelaide which were always warm and engaging. I look forward to following this adventure into Pakistan with you. Best wishes from Denise and me.
So many curries, so little time! "We looked like backpackers in Asia – we were filthy after so many tuk tuks, buses and trains. So we decided a good place to start was with showers and doing our laundry." Oh, if we had a dollar for every time we'd said that! What a beautiful end to Sri Lanka.
Amritsar Streetscapes I have posted some of your pics in the 'Streetscapes" thread and also the 'Cathedrals, grand churches, mosques & places of public worship' thread in the Photography Forum. Check 'em out.
Amritsar Having met you two in Kara Kul in the High Pamir of Tajikistan I can vouch you are some of the bravest most capable travellers on the planet we have met. And considering we embrace remote and paths less trod, we have met some accomplished intriguing characters. Gotta say I am excited to read of the far out paths your intrepid footsteps may take. Lead on!!!
A high compliment indeed You are too generous with your words Dancing Dave. A high compliment indeed given you and Denise have had adventures that we still only dream of.
Local guide Its terrific when you find an honest tuk tuk driver full of local knowledge that wants to share and make certain you have a great time in their city. Now... that was a table of food! ..... oh and you found chocolate. Travel does not get any better.
Ancient Cities of Sri Lanka I don't remember reading any blogs about this location. Terrific! Love those Unesco sites and this one sounds great. Glad you started at the far end. I'm not sure I could have made that hike in that heat.
The lure of Sri Lanka Sri Lanka has moved up on our desired list of travels in the past year or two. It is great The heat can really suck the life out of you. That's great that the safari was so easy to arrange and quickly after you arrived. Great trip.
Too old for this traveling thing ... No! Bite your tongue. You'll get your rhythm... it just takes longer in advanced years. We are proof. Trains and tuk tuk's are two of our favorite forms of transportation. Glad you found some reasonably priced foods.
It's been on the to do list a long time Getting the Sri Lanka blog posts up has been on the list a long time, recent events spurred us into finally doing it. Sri Lanka has so much beauty and as a developing country is heavily reliant on its tourist industry.
Cats, dogs and Work We have often said that work interferes with our travels. Ideas come in all forms and hitching hiking Russians spark a need in you. Our motto for 25 years has been Why not so we are glad you've joined us in that plan. Glad you gave it a go at home when you are ok with doing it in lands unknown.
World Expo Makes one realise what a big and diverse World we live in. Must make the memories vivid that you could attend the World Expo in Astana in Kazakhstan...what a hoot for you we say!
Great blog on a lesser-known destination Dave here......really enjoyed reading your blog from Astana. The history of the city was quite interesting as was the expo! Thanks!
Turkistan Enlarging your pics opens the magnificence of this mausoleum to my marvelling eye. Mmm. A worthy addition to our Cathedrals, grand churches, mosques & places of worship thread in the Photography Forum. Check it out.
This is our travel journal that anyone is welcome to read.
It doesn't get edited on the road and we travel technology free so have to use whatever computers and keyboards we find both good and bad. Typos, missing words and bad English are par for the course... full info
