Rough and barren Beauty comes in all forms and it is impressive that the mountains are bigger than Tajikistan. Can't way I would want to ride on more narrow roads that we have in the past. Yikes!
The long and winding road. The joys of hot water! Serenity. Beautiful country. Thanks for taking us along. Part of me wishes they'd had some of those nice highways in Tajikistan but I also loved the rock and roll adventure that we had.
Mixed feelings about tar seal! Indeed it was kind of nice to be on seal but at the same time not really befitting its off the beaten track adventure status. So we had mixed feelings as really we prefer the rough challenging conditions of the Pamir Highway.
Very good Hello- Have you seen people with US or Indian passports in the region during your travel? Do you think it is safe for people with such passports to travel here? Also, were you driving along the Karakorum Highway? Thanks
Samuel
It's way safer that you'd think Hi Samuel, no one will care if you're on a US passport, Americans are travelling in Pakistan as much as any other nationality. An Indian passport might be different but I doubt anyone in the Northern Regions would care too much. There are a few travel bloggers with good guides to travelling Pakistan, but one of the best resources out there is a Facebook Group "Backpacking Pakistan" members include some of the most experience PAK travellers you could meet and also trusted locals. There you'll be able to ask if anyone has travelled on an Indian passport and how that might be recieved (no doubt getting a visa would be far more difficult). I can guarantee it's a trip you'll never regret
Wagah Border closing ceremony Your blog and Marie's video captures the excitement you must have felt being there from the Pakistani side and what a welcome to your foray into Pakistan to come. Must be great to bring back the vibe that only a video you took yourself can give. Brilliant.
What an adventure Ah the great search for the SIM card. Sounds like you encountered some crazy drivers and had a few intense experiences. That is when you know you are alive. The joys of travel and what a great adventure.
Dang those early flights. It is true when you are booking them you convince yourself it won't be bad to do once or twice, you can sleep on the flight and you'll have plenty of extra time to explore... and then the reality of it all. Ugh. Money changing nightmares.. well nightmares is too strong but there always seems to be a bit of an issue getting all the currency squared away. Chaos is the norm in India. Glad you found your way. Looks like the Golden Temple was well worth the effort.
The joys of another border crossing You've had many over the years and not long ago we followed your vehicle through the line. Wish we had been there for this one. I smiled hearing you cleaned up for the boarder crossing only to enjoy one of your favorite modes of transportation which won't protect you from the elements. Glad you took us along.
Lahore Beautiful mosque that appears to be surrounded by red dirt without vegetative adornment or gardens. If that is so, it adds an interesting perspective that maybe it is not the climate but that is how it is meant to be.
This is our travel journal that anyone is welcome to read.
It doesn't get edited on the road and we travel technology free so have to use whatever computers and keyboards we find both good and bad. Typos, missing words and bad English are par for the course... full info
