On this birthday I contemplate on my accomplishments, failures, goals, dreams, lessons. This is by no means a 'Look what I can do, I am better than you type'; it's more of a 'today is a gift, that's why it's called the PRESENT' type of entry. Intrinsically capricorn-ish in nature, I was always one who saw the benefit of having goals and dreams, of planning for tomorrow and the rest of the future. Very contradictory in nature, I know just how much I've achieved in 28 years, but also feel it's NOT enough. Having moved to Europe, I look at the past few years with VERY different eyes, learning more about myself, and knowing better what I want. School-wise/Career-wise - Two post secondary attempts later, I find myself yearning to get into another. Social work this ... read more

The past 4 months have been an experience, to say the least. Teaching me things when I wasn't asking to be taught, per se. Just some notes I took 'in class'. - If you're comfortable, you're not growing - There is always room for improvement (especially when it comes to budgeting money) - A huge bag of rice for less than 5 GBP is a SWEET deal, especially since it's been 2 weeks, and it is not even CLOSE to being done - Looking 'young' for your age IS good, that is if people know your real age. Otherwise they really think you are THAT young. - Being underestimated is NOT a curse, it's an opportunity - Live your OWN dream, not your parents' - Cookie cutter jobs are for cookie cutter people - Make a ... read more

24 hour Liverpudlian Adventure Being a fan of the Beatles, my friend Alma and I decided to go to Liverpool for a weekend since the National Express tickets were only 12GBP return. The ride to Liverpool took about 5 hours from London, left London at 8am and got there at 1pm for our adventure. It rained the whole time we were there, and because we were travellers on budget, we WALKED to our B&B. It took one hour. I'll take exercise anyway I can. Once at the B&B, Paul, the guy who worked there gave us tips on the bus system and how to find Penny Lane, which was a short bus ride away. He also gave us the general direction on how to find Paul McCartney's old house, but because it gets dark early, we ... read more

Masquerade!! Paper faces on parade! My flatmates and I decided, very last minute, about a week before Halloween, to throw a party. We sent out the invites on the Tuesday, I bought my costume on the Thursday, went shopping for the party on the Saturday afternoon, and had the party Saturday night! It was a success -- what's the criteria for success? The people you invite showing up with candy and a costume. This was my first party, in my new flat in London -- kinda nervous, but felt okay about it since the girls and I were going to have one anyway, we just changed the venue to my flat. We had lots of food, lots of drinks, lots of new people to meet. I reckon a total of 20+ people at the party. ... read more

The girls and I spent October 4th, in Bath & Stonehenge area for some touristy fun! Bath: No rubber duckies here Stonehenge: Big Rox The city of Bath was reminiscent of Oxford, with its beautiful architecture. From a distance you can see the honey coloured stones that the buildings are made of. Quite beautiful. We were here mainly for the Roman Baths not to be confused with ensuite baths (harhar!). The history, again was fascinating. That's what I love most about England. It's older than any place in North America, and all the famous places I've only read in books or documentaries are HERE, a stones throw away! Amazing. Stonehenge: During my first trip to England, I really wanted to visit Stonehenge. Its mystery is so fascinating. -=- ... read more

Capitalism, Schmapitalism I've been working for about a month now. At a headhunter. Do you know what a headhunter does? They recruit people who probably HAVE jobs already, for other jobs that probably pay better. And they charge for it. A lot. For example, to recruit a CEO for another CEO job, the fee is roughly 30% of what their new salary would be. So if they get hired for their new job and they get paid 150,000, my employer would charge that company 50,000 for that one person. And there are lots of companies. And thousands of people. That means a ridiculous amount of money for moving one person from one company to another company. It's the rat race at its best. People with the most letters after their name win. It's a cash grab ... read more

Updates about the past few weeks Work Work is going okay, I was definitely spoiled by my last job, having people I absolutely adore around me every single day. Great friendships, laughs and chemistry. This time around, has an adjusting period - I am the new girl at school again, and while that's been okay, about 80% of the people I see on a daily basis are in their 40s or above. I am used to being around people in their 20s. It's been a ride. I can't complain though. Locally// I went to the Thames Festival last weekend. Those are the pictures below. The first set are of a performance we caught by the River Thames, right beside the Tower of London Bridge, the second set are of a guy playing this thing called the ... read more

BUNAC organized a trip to Amsterdam So I seized the moment, and this past bank holiday weekend, I added two new countries to my list of visited countries: The Netherlands & Belgium We had to meet at the International Student House @ 6:00am on Saturday morning. I live about 20 minutes by tube away. So, what's the next option - get on the FIRST tube of the day from Canary Wharf tube station - which was @ 5:25am. I woke up at 4am, to get ready and out of the flat by 5am. Walk to the tube with time to spare, OTHERWISE, I will miss it. Luckily the area I live in, is a SAFE area -- so there are NO problems walking out and about at 5am on a Saturday morning - trust me. There ... read more

Holland, Amsterdam, the Netherlands - Geweldig!!!! It's my 3rd country in Europe (England & France last year). Even though it's just for the weekend I'm super excited. Get to see the canals, architecture and all the other sites of Holland. I do believe my Papa is the only one in my immediate family who has been to Holland (other than sisters tho). Papa, this is for you! 3 I'm excited to meet new people on this trip; I've been here 3 weeks and I've made great friends thus far. I wonder how many more in the next 2 years! What do you mean the last time we saw each other was the wedding?! I went for dinner and drinks with 'cousin' (easiest explanation we could find) Cassie last nite. Mexican food, daiquiris galore and catchup talks. ... read more
