Our last full day in Lima. We leave for Cusco at 10am and we have to be at the airport around 830 so we’ll have to take an early cab. We woke up this morning pretty early because even on Saturday the construction outside our window was going on. The sawing this morning, which seems constant in this city, was much worse than normal. It sounded like they were cutting cement!! How horrible. We had a pretty wicked hangover and I hadn’t slept much so I walked to the bodega down the street to get big water. It was delicious. After chilling for a few, Brett and I went to get a coffee and some breakfast/lunch. We had a chicken sandwich with French fries and lettuce on it haha. It was pretty decent and very cheap ... read more

Today was our first morning waking up in the new room. While it was much breezier and a lot easier sleeping, the construction project across the street put a serious damper on my sleeping since they started sawing cement and wood at like 7am. Not to mention that fact that although the window was a help considering it let in more air, it also let in the sun, the hot bright sun. So needless to say I was up early like 9am and that was about five hours of sleep so I wasn’t all that happy. I also didn’t feel that well because I smoked a bunch of cigarettes the night before and also drank a bunch of beer. I was probably a little dehydrated and also the pizza we ate the night before was doing ... read more

I just typed the date and almost forgot what day it was. How great is that? I don’t have a thing to do except see sights, workout, go to the bar, read, and meet people. Oh ya, and sleep late. I love that part hahah. So today was kind of a crazy day. We stayed up super late last night as you can probably tell by my previous entry, and I was fairly hung over this morning. Brett was worse than I was though. He stayed up later. So I was digging through my papers and whatnot and trying to figure out about our trip to Cusco on Sunday and I looked at my confirmation for the hostel we are at now and realized that I only booked our room for five nights and not seven ... read more

South America March 3rd 2011

I came home from the hotel I stayed at with Mayra around 10am and I was dead tired. She had to go to the American embassy to get her visa renewed so she can come to the EEUU in a few months. I arrived back at the hostel and immediately went to bed. The hostel has been waiting days for an inspector to come and check out the premisis to make sure that everything is up to date, and for this reason we had to stay in our room and not move a muscle because the hostel was only supposed to have 15 people and there are like 30 here. I was fine with that and I just passed out for three hours until around 1300 when i woke up and had an apple and some ... read more

We woke up kind of late today and decided that we needed some coffee so we ventured out to Starbucks and sat and had a coffee for an hour or so. We did some people watching which, in the area of Miraflores, is a great time. There are so many different kinds of people and ages of people that walk by on the main strip. It took up a solid hour of our time. We came back to the hotel around 1300 1400 and decided to go to the beach because Brett wanted to surf. I wasn’t so hot on surfing but he really wanted to so we went down to the beach and immediately we were accosted by the people trying to sell surf lessons and surf boards to the general population that is walking ... read more

The traffic situation here is insane. When we drove in from the airport we were amazed at how crazy everyone drives, not to mention the fact that you are inches from the car or autobus next to you at any given time. There aren’t really lanes of traffic per se, the cars kind of just weave in and out of the road when they can, there are very few traffic lights, only at the very major intersections and so at the smaller streets that intersect the main roads, it’s a free for all and cars just go when they can and people walk when they think it is safe which may or may not be the case haha. When we were down in the dodgy part of the city yesterday we saw a car accident right ... read more

Today started much better than yesterday, for one I wasn’t totally hung over and I also knew a little more about the hostel and about where I was so that I could feel just a little more confident than I previously was arriving here without a clue as to where I was or what was around me haha. Brett and I got up and had some tea at the hostel, I did a little reading and we had some bread with jam for breakfast along with the Japoneses that are staying here. We talked a little with them and afterwards I took a shower which was much needed since sleep was again arduous and extremely sweaty and wet. At one point in the night I had to get up and towel off because I was so ... read more

Brett and I woke up fairly hung over since we were out so damn late boozing the previous night. Our hostel room smelled pretty musty and is in the back part of the hostel next to the “storage room” where the mishmash of wares that people have left or discarded just end up. The hallway is dark and a little dingy but the hostel itself is very friendly and inviting. There are lots of people staying here from all over the world: Japanese, Chilean, Canadian, American, Peruvian people all staying in the same locale. It’s pretty great. The weather here is hot. Easily 80-90 degrees every day and pretty humid so sleeping is a chore since there isn’t a breeze in our room and it gets fairly stifling with the door closed. It’s nice to open ... read more

We left Chicago in somewhat of a daze since I was half drunk when I arrived at the airport. Our flight to Fort Lauderdale was pretty uneventful however I passed out the whole time so it wasn’t horrible. We arrived in Fort Lauderdale and it was a tight connection. We had enough time to use the facilities and then to buy a quick sandwich and much needed Gatorade since Mattcam took me out and got me all fucked up the night before at cans canteen on damen haha. We sat down for a quick second and then our names were called over the loudspeaker to come to the plane as it was the last and final boarding call for Messrs.’ Carr and Cheaney. Ahha. We got on the plane and we sat, of course, over the ... read more
