THE GREAT BARRIER REEF Up early again today, gosh we are gluttons for punishment! We take a lovely early morning walk along the sea front, past the Lagoon to the Marina. We are the first here, so hop on board and grab a coffee & Danish for breakfast. We do like these trips that include loads of food! It is a god send really. We watch everyone else board and grab there breakfast before the first briefing of the day, this is where they try to upgrade us (for a hundred dollars or so) to diving. But apart from it being cheaper, we decided that as the reef is so close we can probably see just as much. Although the dive mistress did have amazing boobies! We sailed out to the outer reef for a good ... read more

MAGNETIC ISLAND Well a couple of hours on the greyhound and we are dropped off at the ferry terminal in Townsville. As we are waiting for our ferry we bump into the two Irish Girls & the coffin and swap stories. This is the last time we will bump into them as they are on their way to Cairns and leaving for home before we get there. We also see a couple of the people who were on the Avatar with us. Talking of Avatar, guess what we got to watch, again, on the way here? A 20 minute journey over the water and we were on what the locals lovingly refer to as “Maggie”. We jumped on the local bus, with most of the boat and a heap of school kids for a tour of ... read more

We arrive into Airlie beach and get picked up by our hostel Bush Village and are put into a really cool double room in a bungalow with a shared kitchen and bathroom and one other room. Luckily no one was out in the other room, so we managed to spread out and relax. We popped into town to pay our reef tax at the office and pick up our terms and conditions form. Liam popped out to grab some dinner , then we set about packing what we thought we would need for the trip. A couple of day’s worth of clothes and swim wear. Up early washed and checked out, bags stored and a lift down to the marina, we hang around and meet everyone else on the trip before the stinger suit people come ... read more

BUNDABERG As we are coming into Bundaberg our expectations are not too high! Someone a the last hostel said hat they had just come from there and walked into the Federal backpackers, saw the state of it and walked back out again. Well they did warn us it is a 'working hostel'. They said there was writing all over the walls, but the motel next door was the same price and okay, so we had a back up plan. Driving through the town it was quite nice and modern! I even had a McDonalds, so free WI-FI! We called the hostel who picked us up in a dirty old work mini bus, full of mud. Mmmm! Well, there are lots of other backpacker that we spotted en route! We walk into reception, which looks like a ... read more

HERVEY BAY & FRAZER ISLAND We arrive at Hervey Bay Greyhound stop frazzled. The air con was up full blast and when we made a food stop the temperature on the roof read 44 degrees. Hot, hot, hot! We jump in the waiting mini bus for the Palace backpackers, where we will be staying. En route we fill in the check in card and are told the bottle shop run goes at 6pm (we need to go if we want Goon for the Fraser Island trip) and if we want ‘all you can eat pizza’ that night sign up and pay by 6.30pm. We get put in a top floor 4 bed dorm with a crappy old fan which is luckily at our end (well those are the bunks we chose!). We have a balcony though ... read more

NOOSA We watched too fast too furious, which was auctioned packed, before arriving at Noosa. We really do not know what to expect! We are waiting around at the bus stop for ‘the GAGAJU bush camp’ bus to pick us up and get chatting to Ulrika & Marion from Sweden, who seem to have less of an idea than us! Alan arrives in a car to drop off a load for the bus. He advises us that our bus will be along soon as it has just had the back axel fixed. Alan is quite curt, he’s only going to say it once so you’d better be listening and Liam likes him instantly. We eagerly jump in and Alan introduces himself as the cook, tells us how exclusive and expensive the area is, where 1hr in ... read more

The Greyhound and the East Coast We have an early start today and are up at the crack of dawn. We pack the last of our things and head on down to reception. The Northern girl, Melanie, with the really long hair who came on last night just before we went to bed is on reception. She is the one who has a bit of a moan at everyone as she never wants to do any work! Well true to form she was sitting outside having a fag ignoring all of the rubbish, cups and left over drinking items that have obviously been sitting there since last night! We said we wanted to check out and she told us to wait until she had finished her fag! Well, Charlotte replied that we were getting a bus ... read more

Bringing in the New Year After a bit of a lay in, we headed down to Wicked travel to pick up our tickets and we spent quite a lot of time on the internet booking hostels for the journey. Feeling a little hungry after hours on the internet, we head on over to ‘The Sugar Mill’ for their $10 steak. Yummy! Thursday was ‘Blue Mountains’ day! An early start today and we are off down the road to Eva’s backpackers for the pickup. We started to get a little worried when the bus filled up, so there was no room left for Charlotte 2, Jason, Debs and Matt (Deb’s husband). However we were all being taken up to Central (where they were) and we swapped onto the same bus as them. Turns out they had five ... read more

RUN UP TO XMAS Wow, we want to see everything in 3D at IMAX, took our breath away! Avatar wasn’t a great story but the spectacle of it more than made up for it. Plus it didn’t feel like nearly 3hrs. Then a nice little walk home, though Sydney (the last Train had gone about 20 mins earlier) past some rather ugly prostitutes all of which were gazing a Charlotte’s chest as if to find out where she got them done. Home, beer and bed, a great end to a great day. Necessities day, desperate need for laundry being done. So as usual we’re up at the crack of noon, and in to the laundry, then some Chillaxing, and brainstorming for the day’s events round the hostel while it finishes. Off to the pool today, we ... read more

SYDNEY Well we headed through security and kept an eye out for Little Liam, but he is nowhere to be seen! We go and do a little window shopping and settle in, then up pop’s Liam just before we board. Turns out he was on the viewing deck watching planes come in. Bless him, we want to adopt him! Three hours later and we land in Sydney, gosh it does fly by (pardon the pun) when you are used to doing 12 hour flights and being cooped up in a bus all day! We go over to the accommodation board and call the hostel for our free transfer. Three hours and several phone calls later and we are still there. We make one final call and they assure us that if he has not turned up ... read more
