Exorcism Interesting read about Bob Larson's exorcism ritual that reminds me of the movie 'Shelter' starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers. However, I think Heath might have multiple split-personality disorder (MSPD) due to his traumatic childhood. That immense strength that you witnessed is something I've seen before in someone I once met who has MSPD but whose family thinks is possessed.
MSPD Thanks for your comment, and you have put forth a very interesting theory. I have very little knowledge of such things, so cannot comment more. As a postscript, I met a friend of Heath a few months later who happened to be standing next to me on public transport. She informed me that Heath changed dramatically after that night - and all for the better. He was a much calmer person than before.
Dramatic indeed! So, now that you are a world-famous public speaker, Travel Camel, I hope you gained practical techniques from this marvelous master of drama and trauma and can convince your publics to follow you into the wilds of travel and adventure (or at least hire you to speak on their next wonderful cruise). Certainly an illuminating night into the convolutions of the human psyche! Travel well!
High Drama One thing I did observe from Mr Larson was the sense of the dramatic, something that I do attempt to incorporate into some of my speeches. Even after all these years, it is still a night that retains many memories.
Thank you for nominating usbfor Blogger of the week! Really pleased about this! Just to note that in 2008 / 9 we were not blogging from Spain, but from USA, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Then we went back to Spain. We are now two months in to our six month South America trip. Enjoy your blogs too! Many thanks once again, Viv and John Cussell. Feliz Ano Nuevo!
TE Hi Shane! a wonderful wonderful experience for you on the beautiful Total Eclipse , your speeches gave a lot of tourists a good idea into the world you live and love so much, fantastic blog and photo's , thank you .
Self criticism Of course, you are right. That is how we learn. Sometimes quite daunting or terrifying at the outset but, a wealth of knowledge to be gained from the experience :) Our daughter is a singer so, for many years, we watched the process, the agony and the ecstasy if you like, of her developing talent. Now, years later, she is still her own worst critic but, that always ensures a great performance. Well done!! Jan (SkiSet)
a floating library! Cruise boats have reading rooms?!?!...awesome!!, if I needed any convincing about going on a cruise (which I didn“t), this just made it for me :)
Books, books, books More accurately described as a reading area rather than a room. Regardless, I was very impressed with this collection - just wish I had more time to read during the cruise!
The Life of a Cruise Ship Speaker Hi Shane,
We are often our own worst critics when it comes to our own abilities but, you have a turn of phrase and easy writing style that can't help but capture people's imaginations as well as an engaging personality. We are so pleased to see that you are now getting the recognition and opportunities that you so deserve. Congratulations on your new career. Jan & Ted xx
Self-cricitism Thanks for your supportive and kind words. I'm critical of my speaking performances, but that is how I improve. There was plenty I learnt from this cruise that I'll take with me in case future cruise presentations are on offer. I'm still in a state of disbelief at times about the career that has unfolded before me.
Taking the leap... What a great transition! Seems not so long ago, you were jumping out of your comfort zone on a golden parachute, and now, you've landed in the lap of luxury. Congrats on your success as a speaker, and may you have many more juicy assignments--well-done!
Speaking Opportunities Thank you for your comment, Tara. I'm still in disbelief about this transition, seems like a dream at times. However, it has taken a lot of work to get to this point and there is still more work to come. I do have further speaking engagements within the next six months, but cannot reveal those at present.
Future Itineraries Thanks for the comment Meryl! I was given a choice of several cruises to speak on, but this was the only one that suited my time frame due to a speaking engagement in Germany the week before (as detailed in this previous blog) and delivering training in Dubai afterwards. Hope my schedule allows me more choices on future cruises.
Glad you are cruising along... finding your inspiration, a favourable trade wind pushing you in the desired direction. Remember, the ox is slow, but the earth is patient ;)
Cruising Along Thanks for your comment Ralf. The ox is slow and so is a transition to a full time blogger, there are never big steps - just a large collection of smaller ones. Thankfully the earth and I share patience, though the earth is infinitely more patient than me ;-)
Affirmation of a new career. We've been waiting to read about this experience. The world does not have enough first class story tellers but it looks like Celebrity Cruises found you. I'm glad they were able to move you to a proper stage. Hopefully on the next cruise you will be able to enjoy the ship and the activities a bit more. We may have to sign up for one of your cruises. The open sea is a beautiful place. Congratulations.
Story Telling I didn't think I was a decent story teller, but so many inform me that they love my story telling style, so I must have underestimated my abilities in this area! Next time, I'll prepare eight presentations before the cruise commences so that I can spend more time on board relaxing between my talks!
I'm so pleased that you were enthusiastically accepted by the cruiser audience... and hope that you get more opportunities in the future. Just let us know when so we can book the cruise!
