We stayed at a caravan park for 2 nights to plug in and charge and get supplies, went and had lunch and a look at Argyle Dam (not impressed at all) and that was about it for Kununurra. When we did our shop we did pretty good cause when we spoke to some fellow travellers they said the shelves were empty when they went the day after. From here we drive to Katherine in Northern Territory to have a look.... read more

El Questro is famous for its ***** star resort where all the rich go and pay around $3,000 a night but on the other side we have the camping grounds where all us average people go. Here you are surounded with gorges, hot springs, waterfalls and fishing, but also chopper rides as well. We stayed here also for 3 nights (prob 1 too many) and got to see everything we wanted, they had a choice of the camp ground which was central or a private site which was about 2km away from main area and your site was about 1/4 acre with a running water stream through it so we chose the private site. Once we got there we unpacked, had lunch and went for a swim then Axel finally got to go for a ride ... read more

This trip we were not looking forward to at all, going from Mt Elizabeth to Home Valley Station. It was only about 220km's but this was going to be along the worst part of the gibb, well so we were told. Well we were told correct, it took us around 6 hrs to do 220kms yes you herd right....6HOURS!!!!!! Most of which was in 3rd gear doing about 40k's. We have never seen so many people pulled over to change a popped wheel, or there shocks had been trashed. We had alot of people passing us as we were taking it slow and easy and then 50k's up the road they have pulled over as they had a blow out. But the 1 that stays in our minds were these 4 guys in a cruiser towing ... read more

This was our first station stop, which is on someones property that have a toilet and shower that are seperate to the main house that are for campers use. Some also take you around for a tour to show you just how the farm works....but sadly this one didn't offer anything. Bummer cause it would have good for Axel. We stayed here 2 nights and met up with a wonderful couple Graham and Gloria again so we ended up going to the gorge and waterfalls together and made a day of it. This track was only 10-15 mins away but took us atleast 45mins as we were in low range 4WD most of it as it was all on large boulder rocks (i admit it i shat a couple of times) But once we got there ... read more

Next place ventured was Galvans Gorge which we had to take a couple of water crossings to get to but once we got there OMG it was better then the last, smaller but quieter which suited us fine. There was a waterfall yet again on the far side which we could easily sit under and even a small pool/bath and the water coming down was nice and warm compared to the deep pool. This was where we bumped into another couple which we ended up calling "Axel's relief grandparents". Graham and Gloria were so easy to chat to and get along with as they reminded me of my parents. They had come from Busselton and were turning back after Kununurra to head home. We ended up doing alot of exploring with them at all the ... read more

We stayed at our next stop for 1 night and packed up early the next day and went to Bell Gorge. We had been told alot of stories about this 1 being Great!!! so we had high expectations when on our treck down there. It was about 45 min walk through rocky bushland and alot of rock climbing There was no dissapointment what so ever once we arrived!!!! OMG it was AWESOME!!!!! fresh water is always the best swimming water. As soon as we arrived at the water hole we all jumped in as the walk there took it out of us, we would have stayed there for about 4 hours and only left because the sun was going down. There were about 1/2 dozen locals that were jumping off the 20mtr cliff face and clinbing ... read more

We stayed here for 2 nights which were for free so we were pretty happy (nobody asked for any money) this was also during a very hot weekend of 37* so camping right next to water and not being able to swim in it cause of the crocs was doing our heads in!!! so we were very happy to move on to another where we could swim!!! There was 1 Gorge where we could'nt swim as it was Croc terratory and another called Tunnel Gorge where we had to use torches to go through and have a paddle at the end.... read more

Oceania » Australia » Western Australia » Gibb River Road August 5th 2009

Well we started the Gibb River Road on a friday, this is a"Dirt Road" of over 660km in length but we did about 1000km's once going to all the Gorges in between. We had our trusty Hilux towing our Jayco Hawk pop-top caravan (not an off road van) and not many caravans were seen during this adventure, mainly 4WD camper trailers. The rutt's are just endless and water crossings galore so it's just slow and steady wins the race!!!! Not many people can say they did "The Gibb" and survived but we can!!!! Woo!! Hoo!! Even bought a sticker saying so. We spoke with many people along the way and herd many stories, good and bad which was a real eye opener, and alot we bumped into stop after stop and got to catch up for ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Western Australia » Broome August 4th 2009

Well I'm a bit behind but i will try my best to fill you in on everything in between..... We got to Broome on a Saturday just after school holidays had finnished and went straight online to look up caravan sites to start ringing, 1, 2, 3 then 4 and gave up they were all fully booked and said to try the "overflow oval" and even that was full so we rang a friend of a friend and begged to crash at there house till we could find a vacancy. Which we did the next day (by chance only because we were at the right pace at the right time) the person before me couldn't fit in the space allocated to him so i said "I will take it". So now we have a place to ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Western Australia » Port Hedland July 20th 2009

We stopped here after leaving Karratha on our way to Broome, it was just over 120kms North of Port Hedland. It was a station stop so it was only $45 for a week or $17.50 for a day so we thought we may as well do a week as we are in no hurry and the ranger at the gates kinda talked it up a little to us. But once we arrived it was a bit of a let down as there were limited sites that were on flat land, most were on a slight hill or full of rocks. But we finally found our spot and set up. Most (well actually all) of our neighbours were 60+ so no play mates for Ax and pretty quiet. we had a fire every night so we needed ... read more
