We are in Los Arcos tonight. Tomorrow in Viana. It was another day progressing on the Camino. Today reminded me of Saskatchewan with the exception that there were more hills than where I grew up. There were the John Deere tractors working the fields, hay bails and lots of summer follow. Great orchards of grapes, which we sampled, so we know the next wine crop will be a good one. As far as wine goes, we bought a bottle on our way into town. The lady tried to sell us the most expensive one but I figured we are in wine country so I bought the cheapest which was mighty fine. I have been listening to church bells since 2am so felt I might as well get out of bed. Unfortunately I forgot my glasses. Pardon any errors. So far this has been long walks followed by lots of nice afternoons with new friends. Not always the same new friends but we all crisscross daily. Afternoons are spent with some wine and appies. One gent named Ron said this is the longest pub crawl he has been on. This is his second Camino The day's walks seem long and our bodies speak to us. In. Spite of this it is a simple pleasure with fantastic views and great people from around the world. Canadians and Americans out number the others. August 31. I am having trouble posting any pictures. We are in St Jean Pied de Port. We had pleasant flights Calgary to London. London to Biarritz France. We took a transport to St Jean. We arrived here about 6:30. Checked in and walked around. We had a great dinner locally and lights out at 10pm. I slept only 3 hours and listened to music, snoring for the rest of the night We were up at 6 am and about 730 started a practice walk up the Pyrenees 8 km. we went to Orisson want took a taxi back. Wanted to go as the forecasts are for rain and we wanted to see the panoramic view. Tomorrow the real walk begins. We both can feel our legs. More to come. ... read more
