Friday, January 25, 2008 If you travel to Mexico and don't know Spanish...the road signs with the "E" crossed out means No Parking. We picked that up along the way...it could prove useful. Today was one of the most incredible days of my life. Today. I'm sharing it with you, but unfortunately the only photographs of the best parts are the ones stored to memory. I thought I should warn you in advance. Today I met two retired men - Bill from outside of Toledo, Peter from Canada, and one middle aged Mexican with shaggy naturally highlighted hair from long days in the sun named Sergio. Today. Alex and I dove the Chac-Mool Cenotes - Little Brother and Kukulcan with Bill, Peter, and Sergio. It must have been the summer after third grade going into fourth ... read more

Monday, January 21, 2008 The subject just means (quote)How to log in(end quote). Has anyone used a Mexican keyboard before? They have to have quotation marks somewhere... Alex is in bed and does not want to get up. I think he has a cold. Again. Or maybe still is more appropriate. His doc put him on a Z-pack before we left for just in case. He has been cold like for about two months. Now he is back to square one, no appetite, ache, and stuffy. I just went to their store to get health food for dinner...chips, water, and cookies. We do not have a fridge in the room for anything perishable. Alex wants me to go to the time share breakfast presentation just to see what he and Jamie went through. They had us ... read more

We are here...there are no apostrophe or quotation marks on this keyboard...and the @ sign is on the key for Q. The _ key is down by the shift....it is throughly confusing me. The flight in was great...I sat next to a middle aged woman named Susan who lives in Farmington Hills and did not mind getting up for me to walk (I opted not to do a shot in the belly even though I am off the blood thinner...the doc said it is not necessary for shorter flights, but they have not done research yet to know what is considered shorter). We are at a huge resort that you have to walk about 10 to 15 minutes just to get to the pool. The place is pretty nice, but I would not recommend it to ... read more

We should have left for the airport ten minutes ago. Alex is walking around in his underwear eating cold pizza and finally packing his portion of the bag we're sharing. I just zipped through packing my half in the last 45 minutes... procrastinate? What's that? The not sleeping, diet coke, pizza, Midol and waiting for Alex is making me nauseous. My mom e-mailed me: Is all this snow and COLD being sent to us so YOU can really appreciate being GONE??????????????? Happy trails, feel free to smuggle home some warmth and sunshine Hope your trip is wonderful and I love you mom xxxooo I asked her if that means she wants me to smuggle home some tequila. We've been warned not to drink the water... have to substitute it with something.... ...right? ... read more

Saturday, December 15th, 2007 - 12:59 a.m. We spent all day today driving. Well, Alex drove and I took pictures. I haven't been able to sleep the last two nights...both nights I slept for about three hours and then it was a lost cause trying. The first night I spent hours and hours thinking, my mind spinning about my life and my future...then I got up and painted my nails. Here I am - night number three...it's one a.m. and I'm still bug eyed awake. I did sleep for about a hour in the car. During part of that hour Alex pulled into a little town so we could eat and I woke up while he was trying to find a place to park. I'm the navigator, but since I didn't see how he got us ... read more

We signed up for a package that included a helicopter ride, white water rafting, a jet boat ride, and something they call a Canyon Swing. While we were in Rotoura we saw a swing that the people were strapped into a metal cage and then the cage is raised really high, you pull a cord, and literally swing out from the mountain. On that tv show, 1,000 Places to See Before You Die, they did a swing where three people were strapped in on their bellies with a helmet on and the same thing - you swing. When I found out what we were doing and saw video.....tears welled up in my eyes...I was shaking, and queasy. The whole shuttle ride to our destination I kept repeating in my head, "I can do anything...I can do ... read more

It's hard to take in all the beauty we've been exposed to...I'm not sure what to do with it all...I wish some how it could soak into my skin or maybe if I yell really loud so that at least my voice reaches the mountains and the lakes so something can indulge in all of it at once. Friday, December 7, 2007 - 10:58 p.m. We have arrived in Kaikora and it is by (my) definition, a piece of heaven. On the train ride in we were surrounded my mountains and oceans and at the oceans edge were seals...lots and lots of seals basking in the sun for our viewing pleasure. The train conductor came over the speaker and comment now and again on where we were and as we approached Kaikora (known for it's seals ... read more

This doesn't do the magpie justice as far as how cool their bird song is, but it gives you a pretty good idea. The clip is at the bottom of the website on the right hand side under Calls. The ones I saw did less cawing and more of the funky sound you hear more clearly at the end of the clip. http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/finder/display.cfm?id=24 ... read more

There will probably be some duplicate photos due to my many attempts to upload, reupload, upload again...and forgetting what has actually worked and what hasn't...hopefully this is mostly new to you. We are about as far south as it gets on the north island of New Zealand...tomorrow at 7:50 a.m. we head on a ferry ride (that I heard is pretty rough the first hour) for a three hour ride to the south island where we then hop on a train to Christchurch. I'm reading Eat Pray Love right now and it's funny in the book, I couldn't have said it better myself, she writes: "Truthfully, I'm not the best traveler in the world. I know this because I've traveled a lot and I've met people who are great at it. Real Naturals." "I'm bad (or, ... read more
