September 19, 2009 “Oh beautiful for spacious skies…” This is what we saw today as we drove through North and South Dakota… America… breathtaking scenery….. fields of yellow, amber, green that went on as far as the eye could see…tiny towns with populations of 100, bales of hay dotting the fields…square bales, round bales…some stacked in blocks or arranged in rows…cows in almost every field…deep blue skies…and when we entered South Dakota…Bison!!!We stopped in Windmere, North Dakota (pop. about 1,000) at a high school field and had lunch. We couldn’t help but wonder how these people live…so isolated…where do they shop...how do the kids get to school...how do they make it through those winters?
