You have an amazing talent at taking photos and writing! I randomly came across your blog and I must say I really enjoyed reading it. I can't wait to hear your experience of Malaysia coz I'm from KL though I'm now in Kiev. You have to try out the famous 'roti canai' and 'teh tarik' at any 'mamak stalls'. I'm sure you'll love it. If you get into any problems, don't worry, Malaysians are ever willing to help, especially when it comes to foreigners (Trust me, foreigners are better treated than their own Malaysians :P) Finally, Malaysians have a weird way of speaking English with a 'laa' behind...so you can start by saying 'ok laa'! All the best!

Places like the killing fields and Tuol Sleng are so important. Everyone should know what happened there, even if it is sometimes difficult to stomach.
23rd February 2010

No, sadly not... It would take up all of my time to upload them all! 18,000 so far...

Thanks for the details Su, though sadly I'm leaving Borneo today! I had an amazing time here though, saw lots of wildlife and actually got the chance to walk through a few plantations. Trying my hardest to put on the pounds - lots of ric, fish and doughnuts!!
23rd February 2010

hi, sadly not as it was too expensive to get to and look round. Maybe I can go back again sometime!

Pics
Hi Gaunt Jon, Having lived in Hiroshima for years and having gone to the Peace Museum numerous times, I could not control the tears that would well up. I cried like a baby many a times when friends would visit from elsewhere within Japan and overseas and ask me to take them to the PM. I do not have the stomach to go to the places you have gone to, though I appreciate that you have tried to pry open some of our eyes on the atrocities that were perpetrated by our own fellow human beings. I cannot fathom how people can be so cruel and heartless. But I do thank you for posting 'those' pics.

Amazing shots again! Do you perhaps have a Flickr site or somewhere else that you're uploading the rest of your shots? I'd love to see them all!!

Hello!
Nice pictures! Did you make it to Beng Melea! It's another massive temple completely left to ruins! It was my favorite Angkor temple easily beating Angkor Wat!

Hey Cheryl... I loved Cambodia too, and on reflection should have ventured up into the north instead of sticking to PP, Angkor and Battambang (which was a bit disappointing). I stayed at OK too, although the best guesthouse was Hello Paradise in Siem Reap... free internet, big room for $6, good food and great staff. I hope the people in Malaysia live up to them!

I know, and my mum does agree! I lost about 20kg from being continually ill. I'm trying my hardest to put it back on, but I really need to get home and get back to the gym. I'll just have to put up with being rather gaunt for now on! I'm going to Borneo to learn about the harm that palm oil plantations are doing to the rainforest, so a visit to a factory might be informative. Could you send me your cousin's details please?
24th January 2010

nice one!
Soooooo jealous! If you find that missing bit of my heart there in Cambodia please forward it! The OKAY is by far the best guest house in Phnom Penh ... enjoy!

On the boat(pic #15)
Sheesh dude, you look rather gaunt here. Hope you are not expelling everything you consume. :) Maybe it was the angle of the camera or your height and gravitational pull. BTW, I forgot to bring up a cousin who lives in Sandakan in Sabah. So he is another one you could stay with or he can show you the workings of a palm oil factory. If you are a snorkeler (I am, but too chicken to venture into the scuba world), there are plenty of pristine underwater life you could marvel at, a boat ride from Sandakan. Up to you of course. Eat a little more, will ya?.Make sure you retain some of it at least. This is coming from a mother of two teens. I am sure your mum would agree.

Travelling round SE Asia is so easy - sometimes too easy in fact, especially in Vietnam where everything is organised. It's easy meeting other travellers as most people do the same few routes. Hope you have a great trip!
20th January 2010

I should be flying to Tokyo in early April, and if all things go as planned, fully exploring S.E.A. for about 5 months. This will be my first time solo-backpacking, and reading your blog has been a great help showing me that it can be done fairly easily! Has it been fairly easy meeting up with other travellers so far?
20th January 2010

Yep, it certainly is... I wish I'd got to SE Asia earlier! I even had bangers and mash with Heinz baked beans and... wait for it... Bisto gravy yesterday!! I love SE Asia.

I know... I got scalded by a few friends who were sat at work on a gloomy Monday morning for saying I needed a break! Needless to say they weren't very sympathetic...

So true!
When travelling for a while it's definitely essential to kick back and relax at some point and do nothing. People at home laugh at us for saying we are having a 'holiday from travelling', but as you say you get burnt out and get a kind of 'boredom' with travelling. A few days of rest can perk you up and no better place to do this than Mui Ne! Happy travels!
