Wow!
Those lakes are truly stunning! No need to apologise for saying how bad the Moni experience was, it sounded like a real dive. Roger sounds like a middle child (the traditional peacemakers), but sometimes...what needs to be said, needs to be said (especially to a scamming control freak) ;)

Those eyes...
I normally love monkeys, but I have to admit that this macaque looks decidedly evil :)

Motifs
We have a very old tea chest from Indonesia and the wooden carvings on it look very much like the motifs in this photo - thanks for sharing this :) Sounds like you are well and truly immersed in your travels now...

All those Ophelia jokes... :)
I've finally found some time to catch up on your blogs! Flores seems to be living up to its reputation. I love the pictures you paint, except maybe for this one "It was a stomach churning experience made worse by lack of air circulation, and cigarette smoke, body odor and bad breath"... hmmm. Nice :/

Enforced dehydration!
Hey! I totally get you on the enforced dehydration for those long bus trips! We are indeed totally at the mercy of those bus drivers for our relief stops! I like to sit close to the driver in case I have to ask him to stop. Also with you on the drinking plenty on non-travel days! Definitely go where the universe takes you! Enjoy Bali :)

Yeah it sucked...
It was so much easier when I was in my 20s!

Students
What a marvelous story! I ran into a similar situation with students in Viet Nam. Sometimes they would have a mimeographed sheet of questions to ask me, so I could tell it was a class assignment. And the pictures of the spider rice fields are really cool. One of the main reasons I went to Indonesia was after seeing rice fields in the movie "The Year of Living Dangerously."

It was a neat experience
... but I fear these kids won't find jobs in Ruteng if they want to stay in this line of work. They'll probably have to move to Bali or somewhere more touristy.

National Park
If Komodo Island is a national park, were the dragons hanging out at the park ranger's hut? It does seem very strange... And judging by the close up photos of the males, I can see why the females were hiding ;)

Eeek!
I had never realised how similar they look to crocodiles! :/

Komodo Island

Ha.
They looked lazy and well fed. It was a neat experience coming so close to them as no minimum safety distances were communicated or enforced. Just stay behind the ranger. I always made sure I wasn't the nearest tourist to any dragon so i don't get bitten first!

Insider knowledge
What a lovely way to see a part of Singapore that most tourists would probably not even know existed. At the risk of making myself hungry, what Singaporean dishes have you been seeking out since you returned?

Food glorious food....
Greetings from Indonesia. I have had: roti prata, hokkien noodle, char kway teow, various peranakan dishes (that's half of my heritage), northern Indian (butter chicken, saag paneer, aloo gobi), laksa, and, of course, Mum's cooking. I had Haines chicken rice on my flight to Bali. I'm still craving a few dishes, but I will be in Singapore three more times in the next two months. I'm going to Oz late Aug, but I'll mostly be in Adelaide. Sorry, had to give Tassie a miss. Three months seems like a lot of time but it really isn't.....

HK has a special place in my heart...
I loved following you on your brief walkabout through Hong Kong... I have a sneaky suspicious that you bought that ticket route just so you could hunt for Farfetch'd in HK ;)
25th July 2017

You got me on this one....
Finding Farfetch'd was a big part of my motivation! I do like HK a lot but I need to go there sometime other than July!

My Breakfast at Tsukiji

Yum!
That uni looks so fresh! I'm now curious to see how I would enjoy a dish like this for breakfast...loved this layover/transit blog :)

My Breakfast at Tsukiji

It was odd eating this for breakfast....
...but a good experience nonetheless. The uni was lovely and creamy and there wasn't enough of it. I prefer California uni to Japanese uni though.

Getsemani sounds exactly like the kind of suburb we like to stay in... and your blog is full of my favourite type of travel photos - animals, art and food! :)

Unfortunately That Was The Last Installment
We flew home after Cartagena :-( jeff will go to Kazan, Russia in August for another diving competition but I won't tag along due to limited vacation time. We get so little vacation time in the U.S. Sometimes I wish I had emigrated to Oz!
