Hi Hey, Shir! I'm glad that you are doing well. I know that I feel awkward just visiting another church even if it is the same denomonation, so it must be really awkward to go to a service where you are the only one not doing something, like hailing Mother Mary.
It sounds like you are getting pretty fluent in Spanish. I was learning Spanish during the school year, but I didn't get too far. Now, I have the motivation of Tatiana, so next year I will definately work on my Spanish. Maybe you can teach me a few words! In your previous blog, you said the Spanish word for yellow. (I forget how to spell it.) Thank you! I thought that was marigold. I was learning from Rosetta Stone, and you kind of have to guess what they are talking about.
Well, I have to go! Have fun on your trip, and I'll be praying for you.
Katie
one month down, although I know youre def. not counting down I am glad to hear that you are continuing to love the teaching. It is one of those things that is so rewarding, and something that I am sure alot of people would do (me included) were it not for the lack of money involved over here, which is a shame in and of itself. So now you are not the only one who has ever played at being a pharmacist, kudos! I too am sharing the getting in shape woes...as I have been largely inactive so far, and the lax coach at UMW has been schlipping me so hard to play there if I am there in the spring, which I think I'll do, being as the only D1 places that I could play at are VMI, The Citadel, or Brigham-Young (Mormon College)...and none of those places are places I'd be...so UMW it is...as is humping it until I am back in tip-top shape and gain back my lost 15 pounds again. Cross Country...thats certainly a mother to come back to, baby.
"Girl in the Black Dress" has just been played on WPGC again, and I got to hear it this time aroud...so yeah, I am quite elated. We also sent a copy of the album to the XM Radio Unsigned station, so we'll see what materializes with that, that being your song...that I guess you still have yet to hear. I would send a cd to you, but I know from familial experience, sending mail into South America is a bit of a gamble at times, so I'll just try and save you a copy when you get back stateside and I can make me way down to your abode. Stay safe, and know that you are in my prayers (if you didnt already). Love.
Hey! Hey, Shir!
I can't wait to hear how soccer school goes! It sounds like fun. Maybe you will find that you are just as good as those Ecquadorian boys.
Dad took us kids camping last weekend at Douthat State Park. Mom kept Chloe. I know this is for comments, but I really wanted to tell you that I caught two bullfrogs and a turtle! It was so fun. I got pictures, so I'll have to show you when you get back.
I'm glad you're having fun and it sounds like you're really popular with everyone! I'll be praying for you.
Katie
Happy One Month Aniversary!! Querida Shirlinita, muchas felicidades! I'm so proud of you girl!! Kris, Justin, Kelvin and uncle Mark said hellooooo Shirlinita! be blessed, I love you!
Hi Goose-bear Great to see your blog up and wow, you're getting crazy with soccer! I bet that was wild going down the street for a neighborhood game. Hope the soccer school thing is rewarding; looking forward to hearing about it. That's nice that you're helping Dorita, and surely learing cool stuff doing so. Happy one-month anniversary and hope you get (got) plenty of sleep tonight! Love ya! Blessings....
Shirlinita Wow!!! how beautiful is my country girl!!!... hey u got me with the Georgia Montain Getaway!! I'm a little too slow.... anyway, you look like Angelina Jolie holding little Correa but, you are more beautiful than her!
Keep it up, keep having fun, I love you and God Bless You!
They call it 'Stormy Monday" Hi beautiful,
Ya know, it's wonderful to hear you're enjoying yourself so much and appreciating it all. It makes missing you that much more tolerable. You're at the halfway mark so beware: the second half goes much quicker than the first! In no time you'll be coming back here to us with the memories of a life-altering trip. Soak in everything you can and document your travels so you can make plans for return trips. And be careful to stay safe; after all, you're still a stranger in a strange land and a potential target for some. We want you back un-marred! Walk with God!
You're so cool! My sweetie Angel Pie, I have so much fun reading your blog bringing so back so much memories of some of those places. I’ve probably stopped at most of those and I was laughing while reading it. Thanks so much for making my day! You’re such a prolific writer; I can't get enought of it. I truly like it very much. ...is worth more than precious gold. I thank God every day that you are my daughter. I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers....
I Love VERY much. God Bless you, guide you, and protect you always. Muah!
Shir, Esa casa es de caña. It's made from cane, a bamboo type of plant. The cane is split longways, and being hollow inside, it makes slats that are tied & or nailed together. It's a fascinating construction style that is much less expensive than a poured concrete structure in both materials and labor, more easily affordable though drastically less durable. You should take a close look at how it is put together if you get the chance. Buena suerte con el fútbol! La queremos!
the melon is everywhere... When I read what you said about melon, I had a complete and total flashback to Columbia and how I mustve seen at least a couple different fruits that were collectively reffered to as melon. But, has all the different melon been good to you?
I went nuts while watching Italy vs. Germany too, and my future cousin playing. Since it was obviously earlier here, we pulled an all-nighter and watched the match earlier on on the glorious day that July 4th was. It was so cheesy, it was just me and 9 of my friends sitting in my living room wearing white undershirts markered like fake jerseys to match the Italy jersey with Barrone's name on it. Theres were cool though, as they all had GO BARRONE written on the back of them.
My parents got home today, that was a mixed emotion kinda thing, but I am glad they are back.
Leave it to the French for whining and hysterionics, for real. The funny thing is thats how alot of french really are, pansies...compared to us hardy, bellicose, and wonderful Americans, haha. Gotta love the hawkers and gawkers that frequent the public places, thats another thing that reminded me about Columbia, and the way my cousin Rosalyn used to get hollered at, to use a funny american coloquialism.
Lastly (and obviously not leastly), you look gorgeous in the picture with you and the two little kids, simply amazing, glorious.
Much Love
Simply Awesome! Shir, I am so proud of you. It sounds like you are having an awesome time. Hey, you tell the boys that you have a crazy uncle and to stay away! I am glad you are visiting Ecuador and having a great time. It is awesome to see where Mamita and Papito use to live. I enjoyed your futbul (soccer) picture, you look great. What do the students call you, "Señorita Shir", hahah, or "Señorita McAurthur, hahah. Are you enjoy teaching? How do the students respond, knowing that you have traveled from the States? I bet it's fun! Keep up the good work and have fun, but be safe. Oh, have a Ecuadorian drink for me, no not that kind of drink. I mean an Ecuadorian soft drink, ahahahahahaha. You take care sweety, but please be SAFE! I look forward to reading more about your exciting, educational, and adventurous trip. Signing off, your hommie, your bro, your cool unck, Jimmmmmmmyy.....
dear Shirlinita! Oh boy, u have no idea how bad I want to b in Guayaquil! fresh fruits, the family, shopping, music, places to go, places to see, Ecuadorian food, and ofcourse to see you....:-)
Hope u had a great wknd. (Happy 4th of July my dear! I love you and pls keep in touch... Be Blessed!!
whew! Great to hear from you Shir - you've been busy! Glad you squeezed in the time to blog hehe. I'm sure it's a hoot to watch the reactions as you move through the crowds at these markets and such. Tell Dorita Maria we're sorry to hear she had an accident and damaged her car, glad she wasn't injured, and hope she gets it back on the road quickly. Melón is how cantalope is called in Spanish, so it's probably the same thing, basically, unless that term applies to other similar fruits as well. It's Friday, yay, so have a great day and a great weekend! Mua!
Mosquitoes (Mosquitos) Honey to avoid being bitten always wear the insect repellant when you go to the finca. You brought one with you and if you used it all, please purchase some more. I also, wored jeans and a long sleeve jacket to protect myself from mosquitoes. If you are bitten badly please avoid scratching and try rubbing on calamine or use hydrocortisone cream, if you don't have it, please purchase that too. Viva the 4th of July! You girls look adorable!
I think of You so often, My little gooserroo And I always say a little prayer that God will bless you and keep you safe.
Hey! I finally caught up on your Blog. We have been really busy lately. Our cousins Chris, Lauren, and Alli came out from CA with their parents, and the Hickses came down from Ohio. We were at your house a lot the week before last so we could record the Psalm CD. I petted your precious Hot Dog for you! Lauren fell in love with him. Anyway, we finished recording, and it was fun.
Too bad Brazil lost! When Chris was over here, he was almost constantly talking about the World Cup and how Germany had to play Brazil. That would have been cool to see.
Well, I have to go. I'm glad you're having fun and I will be praying for you!
Kt Mc
love the tractor pic That picture us basically the opposite of a certain country song of note, I am sure you know it being the country buff that you are, haha.
As you know, I started going to church again. I had stopped for a while because of school and the fact that my grandparents moved, but I resumed again this last Sunday, it was nice to be back.
I am really glad to hear that all is well. Stuff is about the same here, its getting better everyday though. I am close to being done with getting debriefed and stuff, and I got my check from those 9 days plus a lot of back writing, so I have been blowing through that like noones biz. I was so mad though, someone near my friends house plowed into the Dart, so that endeavor has suffered a major setback, but it'll all work out as all does. Btw, Peripheral Black Thoughts has a new album, the first one with me on, its called Amorous. It's nice, I genuinly like the sound of all 12 of the tracks, I'll get you a copy for when you get back.
Well, I am about to actually make another blog, because I realized that I had never made one saying that I was home, so I guess I should.
Have fun and stay safe, and much in the way of love.
La Garza Roja! Hey, mamita, tia Toyita, titi Flori took pictures with me and la garza roja!! wow! Shirlinita

Hey there Shirrrr!!!! Everyone's commenting the second blog so I thought I'd comment this one! I'm so glad you're having a great time and learning so much. You know we miss you so much back home and can't wait to see you back, but at the same time we don't want to rush you. The days go fast enough already! So enjoy your time and we'll enjoy our time together when you get back. Love you! Chau...
Crazy Italians Italy scores two goals in the last couple minutes of overtime... I didn't really expect it, but I'm happy for Italy; they earned it. Portugal needs to beat France today to really make my week! You're right, though- Zidane is a fascinating player and it's hard not to want him to succeed. I wish I were as creative as he is on the soccer field. On another note, I hope your 4th of July was fun, even though no one around you was celebrating it! Tina, Becca, Luke and I went kayaking at a local reservoir before watching Germany fall to the Italianos. We grilled some chicken and corn before heading over to a nearby park to watch an amazing fireworks show that was supposedly paid for by Dave Mathews. Looking forward to reading your next entry! -G
Crabs (cangrejos) yumm-yummm-yummm Those Crabs (cangrejos) look pretty good from here, yep, yumm-yummm-yummm. I love cangrejos, is like eating lobsters. Ecuador is so blessed with such bountiful sea food. I love camarones (shrimps) too. Okay, is lunch time for me here, so I'm so hungry for some sea food.
God bless you, guide you, and protect you in all your ways.
You Guessed it.... Good call - it's great to see your blogs catching up! It's too bad that you ran into impediments to posting but welcome to the world of computers and associated issues. Persistance is key, although some instincts certainly do help. Have a great one and talk to ya soon!
Cool blog You are never far from my thoughts and always in my prayers.
Shir MaC, I was so looking forward to your blogs. I'm so happy now.... can't hardy stand it baby! Thank you gooser, enjoyed your articles very much. Keep it up my sweet angel pie!
