Crabby
Live crab being sold. Yes, live, because Ecuadorians are firm believers in freshness and if the crab is dead, it´s not worth buying. Finally got this blog published for you all to read. Sorry for the delay. And my pictures are up from my last blog if you´re intreseted in looking at those! <3
Yes, well, it´s the first day of July and I´m proud to say that not only have surrvived my first 20 days here in Ecuador, I´ve been loving every minute. Some days I wake up, look out the window, and can´t believe that I´m actually in Ecuador! It seems so unreal. Sometimes it´s scary thinking that I´m thousands and thousands of miles away from my family and friends, but it´s hard to find time to think when it´s so busy around here. I do miss you all, but I´m having the time of life. I think when my parents went to Ecuador this winter they felt more "homesick" for me because even though I was with G and Tina, it was like I was by myself. For the past 4 years now it´s only been the three of us and I got to missing them a lot. Now that I´m here and they´re back home I don´t feel the same way just because it relieves me that at least
The other other white meat
Here we have fish, fish, shrimp, clams, and oysters all for your eating pleasure.
Yumm-yumm! they have each other. Now let me tell you about the past two exciting days for both me and for all soccer fans around the world...
FRIDAY (6-30)
Today was nice because there was so much to at the school. I taught grades 4 and 5, and after recess at 10 I walked around the block with the rest of the school marching along. Afterwards, I go to help out in the 7th grade which is the highest level of the regular school. I didn´t really know what was going on except it made for an interseting class while we dicussed "sex education." It really brought back memories. My job was to make sure everyone stayed seated and focused. Which was really hard, considering the subject, haha.
When school was out, we went home to eat before watching Germany eliminate Argentina in the World Cup. What a disappointment, though it was an exciting (and long) game! Dora and I left afterwards to go to the northside of Guayaquil and even farther North to Samborondon. While still in Guayaquil, we went to La Rotonda where we had some great pizza and french fries from Pizza Hut,
Northside
Here we have a great shot (if I may say so) of the river from the bridge. though it didn´t taste nothing like Pizza Hut pizza back home.
When we entered Samborondon, we had only one stop and that was at Riocentro. That´s the third mall with the same name in the same providence I´ve been to! I bought a ring there and a key chain. Sadly, this place was not so interesting. There were many different sub-divisions for rich people to live in that are closed to public, surrounded by fencing and gates and protected by security. When I say a lot, I mean I stopped counting after twenty. Each was gorgeous from the outside, but overall it was a boring place to visit.
A great meal was waiting for us when we got back home. Arabé food, called "Shawarma" was on the table. It was great; kind of like chicken soft shell taco, but a lot bigger and better.
SATURDAY (7-1)
Well like every Saturday, first thing on the "to-do" list, is go to the markets. We went to the same markets, except this time we also went to Mercardo de Maricos. Sr and Sra Loyola bought a lot of clams, and I got to watch them prepare it for them. I also saw live crabs and lobsters being sold to eat. Yes, live. Turns out, if the animal is dead, they won´t buy it. Not fresh if it´s dead...I beg to differ.
We came home and unpacked the goods and picked up Dora to go out to eat. We hurried along because Portugal was playing England and I just HAD to see the turnout. I had been watching while we came home and when it was time to leave, overtime was staring up. It was a good thing the resturant was nearby. I hardly missed a thing. Everyone in the resturant wanted England out of the picture, since those "bloody brats" (haha) we´re the ones who knocked us from glory. Those were the most intense PKs I´ve ever seen! I´m so glad Portugal pulled it through and I hope they´ll become the new World Cup Champions since Brazil is outta the picture. ...Which is unbelievable, by the way. In fact, it sucks! I was so disappointed. Of course, watching Zidane is fun, but Ronaldo and Ronaldinho are WAY more fun! That game I watched after we got back from the resturant.
It was called Ollantay Gym. It was a nice resturant downstairs and upstairs it was an overcharged gym for gringos and rich ecuadorians. The place was for vegetarians, which explains why the "meat" was so soft. Dora and I both ordered Lomito de soja. It was quite delicious, considering the last time I had a veggie burger I though I was going to die.
After France jipped Brazil by one lousy goal (just kidding, that was an amazing goal) Dora and I brought the corn that Sr Loyola and I bought at the market upstairs to peel. We watched some Brad Pitt movie while we peeled the corn and afterwards Sr Loyola made Humitas de Choclo for us to eat. It was great. I had three and thought I was going to explode.
Well I headed upstairs to write you guys even though I couldn´t login to my site to publish it for you. Someday soon you´ll be reading this!
Until next time,
Shir

Crabs (cangrejos) yumm-yummm-yummm
Those Crabs (cangrejos) look pretty good from here, yep, yumm-yummm-yummm. I love cangrejos, is like eating lobsters. Ecuador is so blessed with such bountiful sea food. I love camarones (shrimps) too. Okay, is lunch time for me here, so I'm so hungry for some sea food. God bless you, guide you, and protect you in all your ways.
