New, New, New
New hair-cut, new glasses, new Louis Vuitton...all being enjoyed with a cup of baby food. (Gerbers brand, naturally-I wouldn´t have it any other way. G.) i don´t know what´s wrong with the pictures, but I´ll try and figure it out tomorrow...it´s late now!
WEDNESDAY (6-28)
Since I went to the finca today, I didn´t get to teach. But I had a great time at the farm and this time I didn´t get any mosquito bites! The cherries have ripened and are ready to eat, and believe me I couldn´t stop! The oranges were a bit tart, though every orange that I peeled I ended up feeding to the dogs. Those poor little things! I could count their ribs. Since I have Hotdog now (and I definitely know he´s not starving) I don´t really consider it weird for dogs to eat fruits and vegetables. Though it is very different. That´s how all the dogs are here. Lonely wandering the streets, starving, abandoned, abused. On the way to the school in the morning I tried to count all the dogs I saw during the 10 minute drive on the street, and you know what? There were so many I lost track. It breaks my heart.
Well we returned to the school before the end of the day to drop off Señor Correa and also
La Finca Hormiga
What a beautiful place. I spend every Wednesday morning here and I love it! Who wouldn´t?! so Señor Loyola could dismiss the students. Since I wasn´t exactly "cute" after lugging around tubs of fruits and melting under the sun, I decided to play some soccer. I was focusing on my juggling I wasn´t even keeping count, though when I finally looked up, I noticed some of the kids had formed a circle around me. I was disappointed because I knew I couldn´t continue to kick a ball around when some of the kids aren´t even as big as one of my legs. I stopped and despite all the groans and protest, put the ball up for the day.
By that time I was covered in sweat. I know...I´m so feminen, aren´t I? So we went home and ate lunch. While we ate, we were watching the news. There are some very horrible things that happen here, and even though I know horrible things happen back home, at least our newsteams don´t have footage like here. It was a good thing I was done eating. Though I did cry at the table. It was only a couple of tears, but I was moved. They showed the Ecuador selection returning home and played their highlight tape. I was filled with mixed emotions. On top of all that my favorite player, the goalkeeper, was shown in a stretcher. While playing England, from what I could understand, he tore some kind of ligament in his knee. That´s when I couldn´t help but shed some tears. Cristian Mora, an outstanding keeper and one of the best I´ve ever seen! May he get better quickly and I hope to see him again next Copa Mundial. And as long as I´m hoping, I also hope to see one of the players while I´m here. I mean Ecuador is about the size of Colorado, and three of players live right here in Guayaquil. You never know...
I had finished my meal and was engrossed with the news, though when it was over I headed straight for the shower. It felt amazing!
I got ready to go out with Dora and prepared myself for amazing deals. We were headed to...Biaya. A huge market filled with clothes, shoes, bags, dvds, cds, glasses, makeup, etc. Any thing imaginable it was there. And for great prices too! I bought my prom dress, new glasses, and a Louis Vuitton bag. I felt like I was ripping off every store! But it felt so good to save so much money.
After a very eventful day of shopping, Dora and I returned home to eat some KFC chicken and frech fies with the rest of the family. I washed it all down with some delicious GERBER babyfood. MMM-mmm! What a great night!
THURSDAY (6-29)
Today I only taught 3rd grade. I´d like to say it was nice, though those kids are CRAZY. I had considered being a teacher until the thought of having a class like that one popped into my head. I think I´ll stick to politics for now.
There´s so much excitment in the air with the World Cup going on. Who´s going to survive the next game? Germany vs. Argentina, Italy vs. Ukraine, England vs. Portugal, Brazil vs. Frace. All these games will be killer. The team listed first for each game is the team I think will win. Though GER vs. ARG is hard to call. I hope Argentina will pull through and end up in the finals with Brazil. How neat would that be? Our neighbors down here! My brother´s right; it´s fun to watch Zidane (sweet name) play. It was sad to see Spain go, but we´ve got Ronaldo leading the way for Brazil. Crespo from Argentina has impressive stats, though Klose, from Germany, has him beat. There´s so many great players out there. It´s going to be a great World Cup Championship game.
People are selling flags and shirts of other countries everywhere. It´s completely madness! Though when I´m approached I simply say, "no gracias, mi hijo, yo soy ecuadoriana." Every time it makes them do a double take. Even though we all know I´m very much American and proud of it, while I´m here I wish Ecuadorians would respect their beautiful country more. Everyone here litters and doens´t even think twice about it. Though while I´m here not only do I look after myself, I make sure no one I´m with is going to be throwing out garbage to collect and turn this amazing place into something else. I wish they only realized.
After coming home to a great lunch, I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening relaxing. Dora said she wasn´t feeling well when she came home so we just hung out and talked together. It was a nice, chilling day. Now I´m off to get ready for a new adventure tomorrow!
Until next time,
Shir
