Now I´m NOT saying that I was hurt or anything in my crazy title. Just wanted you all to know how extremley worn out I am! These past few days have been pretty calm, though you´ll see why I feel like passing out right now...
TUESDAY (7-11)
Well what do ya know? Seven eleven...what I weighed when I was born. You can already tell this day is going to be speical. Only I wish that was the case. Though it´s been a month since I haven´t seen my family. And in one more month I will. At the same time I can´t wait to see everyone of you back home, I wish instead you all were coming here instead. I know I have to face reality sometime soon, but for now I´m gonna keep on livin´ it up!
This morning at school I taught first and seventh grade. I just adore those first graders! After classes I played soccer on the patio with the older boys in 9th grade. They were so impressed that not only I knew how to play soccer, but that I knew how to play well! Never had they known a
girl to know the game and play the game and also who knew how to juggle and do tricks. Their reaction was priceless! That was a lot of fun and I gave my word for another game of soccer soon.
After school and after a great lunch, we all headed in our seperate directions. I went out to the hammock but after a while I realized I was getting cold from the breeze so I took a small nap in my bed. Though it turned out my small nap wasn´t so small. I was the first one up but it was already 4 in the afternoon! I went downstairs for a snack and while I was eating, Dorita came home. I kept her company while she ate her lunch and afterwards we went upstairs to the TV room and watched a movie together. Miss Congenitality 2. Maybe the first one was better, but I don´t care what anyone else says, it´s still a good movie. At least up to where I watched. The sad thing is that we didn´t get to finish watching it.
Señor Loyola had gotten up and we were all going to eat our nightly
Dr. McArthur
Yup, that´s right...my first perscription I wrote. Go me! snack, but we had a slight problem. There was no snack to be eaten at the house. So Dorita and I departed from our comfortable chairs, slipped into appropriate attire, and headed out the door. We bought bread, cheese, and ham to make sandwiches, and also picked up a few other misc groceries. All this was purchased at one of the thousands of Mi Comisariatos in this huge city.
WEDNESDAY (7-12)
Like normal Wednesdays I didn´t teach today and instead went fruit hunting at the farm. Only this time it was different...Usually it´s me, Sr. Loyola, and Sr. Correa who go to the finca. Today there were three other people who accompanied us as well. We cut down some Yuca which didn´t take long at all with all the help we had. Though since there´s only a limited amount of machettis, I had the privledge of going around and feeding myself and the dogs mulitple different fruits available there to eat. The mosquitoes about killed me yet again...
We got back to the school before dismissal and once things had cleared and there were only a handful of kids left to be picked up,
I got forced into playing soccer with them. Since we were playing keep away, and the players consisted of me and a bunch of third grade girls, it was basically me running around in circles with the ball, practicing my moves. I got tired pretty quickly which gives me a hint that I better start getting in shape for cross country which has already started for my friends back home.
After a wonderful lunch and a little chill time, we headed back out. I couldn´t have been more happy because I knew exactly where we were going. We were going to check out soccer programs that were available to me for my last month here in Ecuador. We checked out two soccer schools, and while one school seemed nicer than the other, it was for kids up to 15 years old. So, looks like when we´ve got the time, I´ll be playing at 4 o´clock with boys my own age...that´s a scary thought. American boys aren´t exactly easy soccer, imagine what it´s going to be like with Ecuadorian guys who spend day in and day out with a soccer ball at foot! I´m still psyched about it though!
Soccer fields everywhere.
Grass or dirt, take your pick. Before we came home, we stopped at KFC to pick up our nightly snack. When we got home my parents called right as we were about to begin, so we were slightly delayed. Like always, it was good to hear from both my mommy and daddy and after what seemed like hours (to my stomach) we said our goodbyes and began eating. After our chicken and fries, though, I had my own little surprise. Since today was my cumplMES here in Ecuador, we had a little celebration at the house. It was so nice! I had my own piece of cake and blew out my candle while everyone sang cumpleMES to me.
While we were eating we all talked and laughed as we reminised over the past month and all the funny things this little gringa has been doing. The can´t ever seem to get over my reaction to other people here in Ecuador--especially those "malcreado" males. Or when it´s just plain funny. Like the ride back down the mountain when I had to pee really, really badly but there weren´t any bathrooms nearby. Señor Loyola kept stoping along the road for me to potty, but I just didn´t feel right! Finally after the third different stop, I squatted behind the car and just went. Lucky they carry toliet paper with them! Or the time I fed a hungry dog on the street and he tried to pee on me to mark his territory. We kept going for a long time like this, until we finally decided it was late enough to go to bed.
Or so I wish! Dorita needed help with her work, so we sat down together in the coumputer room as I counted perscriptions, sorted papers, stapled papers, filled out papers, and even wrote perscriptions. Yeah, that´s right, I´m not a doctor, but I wrote a perscription! Boo-yeah! It was awesome, the only thing is we ended up getting to bed at 12. And 5:30 came along way too soon...
THURSDAY (7-13)
Well my 5 1/2 hours of sleep caught up with me by the end of the day. Luckily I only taught two thrid grade classes today and was finished by break, at 10. The high school students are taking their exams now, so they finish up at 10:30. The boys begged me to play another game of soccer with them after school today. I didn´t feel too comfortable going with a bunch of those boys, so I got permission for Señora Marianna to accompany me from Señor Loyola. So around 11 Señora Marianna (with her son) and I walked down the street to La Cancha for a game of soccer. My team won and I made 4 of the 6 goals we had. So in turn, on the way back to the school, they guys bought me and Señora Marianna drinks. It was sorely needed!
We came home to eat and rest up before heading out to Señora Loyola´s doctor appointment at 5:30 this evening. It was an hour in the waiting room watching this health show and crapping up, so I wasn´t very comfortable there. Close to seven we headed towards the car which is parked in the Policentro parking lot and we decide to go in to see if there´s any morocho avaialbe. But sadly there is none.
So we go to the parmacy to pick up the medicenes for Señora Loyola before coming home. While in the Ceibos we picked up a pizza for the night. Mmm-mmm! I was ready for bed.
But Dorita needed more help tonight too! And at school one of the teachers asked for some help with her English homework at the University. So I ended up getting to bed after 1. I was not a happy camper...I NEED SLEEP. In fact, that sounds like a plan for right now, so I´m going to have to say good night to you all, even though it´s not even 8 o´clock yet.
Until next time,
Shir

Hi Goose-bear
Great to see your blog up and wow, you're getting crazy with soccer! I bet that was wild going down the street for a neighborhood game. Hope the soccer school thing is rewarding; looking forward to hearing about it. That's nice that you're helping Dorita, and surely learing cool stuff doing so. Happy one-month anniversary and hope you get (got) plenty of sleep tonight! Love ya! Blessings....
