Our one challenge now is to get to where it is warm all the time. Luckily, the weather has been kind to us and has mostly been suited to shorts and T-shirts. It is still getting cool overnight and has become quite windy. It seems that we may have to wait for Broome for the warmer climate. Yes, we know, we would have something to complain about if we were at home. We’re not complaining, just commenting. We have now booked ahead for the next couple of weeks. When we tried to book Coral Bay there were no sites in town! School holidays begin on the 3rd of July. Oops! So then we rang Exmouth to find nothing available for July or August. Guess who started to panic? Rhonda tried to book again the next day ... read more

After what seems no time at all, we are now on the west coast of this vast country! Our travel plans have allowed for an easy trip so far. Having the time to do so has allowed us to stay longer in several places. So far we have done over 9000 klm. A lot of this has been through touring from the places we have set up camp. It’s nothing to clock up 2-300 klm to visit attractions in the area. Our big disappointment is that the crayfish season is over. This whole region is dedicated to the industry and there was plenty of evidence of the profitability in the form of massive homes on the seafront. We did manage to find a couple of frozen crays in Geraldton so all is well. GUILDERTON A week ... read more

We have been very lucky with the weather. Although quite cold in the morning, we still continue to have pleasant days with temperatures in the low twenties and occasional eighteen or nineteen degrees. Added to that, we have had ideal towing conditions with little wind and no rain. As has been our experience in the past, we continue to meet nice people along the way. NORSEMAN We had planned to spend three nights in Norseman. Luckily, we took note of advice from a number of people and bypassed it going to Esperance and back again to Kalgoorlie. It is a good fuel spot and has a nice feature of camel statues on the central roundabout. These are its only features as far as we could see. So the trick is to go to Fraser Range Station ... read more

When we visited WA last, we went directly from Perth to Albany, back along the coast to Margaret River and then back to Perth. At the time, we were told it was worth the trip to Esperance but we thought 500 klm there and then 500klm back to Albany was too much for the short time we had to do it. That decided on us ‘going there next time’! Well the next time is now and we clearly see why we were told to visit those years ago. It is beautiful! But don’t misread what we say, as it is not so much a place to live as a place to visit. Our four night stay become one for a week to enjoy the area and take a time out. The coastline is well renowned but ... read more

Finally got on the road again after the wild winds and pelting rain although we got thoroughly soaked hitching up! We have decided that we will prop any time the weather opposes us. Both wind and rain can make things a little uncomfortable but wind is worse. Time is not our enemy luckily. What a surprise Nullarbor was to us. We expected barren desert and not much else. Well, surprisingly, we found an undulating green landscape , access to beautiful shorelines and lots of green grass. In Fraser Range we were told that there had more than two inches of rain in the last month! Do yourself a favour if you haven’t been across and make the trip at some stage in your life. So life out here is all milk and Honey? Yeah sure! We cancelled our trip to Ceduna today due to high wind and heavy rain. That means a fifth night in beautiful Streaky Bay though but that’s not a bad outcome as we like the place. We are on an absolute water front site and for four days the weather has been beautiful. Sunny, no wind and pleasant temperatures in the early twenties. Then last night up came the gale force winds and it blew all night. The van was rocking and rolling and the occupants were full of trepidation. The rain kicked in and we knew that today would be a lay day. As the photos show, Rhonda is back on her bike and riding like a pro. In fact, it is enjoyable riding around ... read more

From time to time you come across something that demands its own blog. Bob and Jacquie Hayter told us about Elliston and so we decided to spend a couple of nights. Quite spectacular, and somewhat unique, is the cliff top tourist drive where there are quirky statues/displays on permanent display. Apparently the town runs a festival every two years that feature a statue competition on the tourist drive. This blog is really a set of photos to look at as each one tells its own story. However, there is a little fishing story as well. In short, Rhonda came fishing too! And what’s more, she bagged her first salmon . In order to make her capture, we had to climb down 283 steps at Locks Well. Much harder coming back up! Great spot for fishing and ... read more

We had forgotten the camaraderie on the road. Drivers waving hello as they pass. People are always ready to stop for a chat in caravan parks and at tourist destinations. It is relaxing and enjoyable. So far we’ve ‘saved’ three nights on our broad brush plan. Hope to use those in places we really enjoy. 3000 klms to date at average of 13.2 ltr/100 klm. 1700klm on trip and 1300 klm tourimg. PORT PIRIE A key town in the north west of the Yorke Peninsula, Port Pirie was a pleasant surprise. The park was on the river quite close to town. The shopping precinct was a strip style centre with a lot of period buildings. A great stopover when going west. The seafood supply outlet more than met our expectations with regard to oysters, Spencer Gulf ... read more

A year off to sort out our new home and now we are back at it! On Sunday the 2nd May we hitched up the van started the new adventure. “Go West Young Man” …….as they say in the classics. And Barb, no stats on the car this time! There is one very important issue we had to address though. We have a little Princess in our lives now and we will miss Elizabeth Georgia Pretty very much. However, she is young enough not to miss us at this stage so we are doing a quick 4-5 month dash around the ‘paddock’ so we can be back in time to see her learn to walk. By then she may even get to really know Nanny and Pa even though she loves them both dearly now . ... read more

This is the last leg in this particular journey. Surprisingly to us, we were not yet anxious to finalise the trip. Still, all good things come to an end! Merimbula Merimbula established itself as another good destination. Staying at the Tween Waters caravan park allows you to walk to town, walk the beach to Merimbula or Pambula and there is a riding track that follows the highway to Pambula. The weather was good for most of the four night stay. We have been here many times so we concentrated on chilling out and doing less in the way of touristy things. We have revived our interest in cards with a nightly 'best of three' at both Crib and Euchre. Outcomes are mixed so no animosity has crept in. The drive to Lakes Entrance was nice and ... read more
