The Entrance at 'Lakes'
Looking back on the way up the hill going west. This is the last leg in this particular journey. Surprisingly to us, we were not yet anxious to finalise the trip. Still, all good things come to an end!
Merimbula
Merimbula established itself as another good destination. Staying at the Tween Waters caravan park allows you to walk to town, walk the beach to Merimbula or Pambula and there is a riding track that follows the highway to Pambula.
The weather was good for most of the four night stay. We have been here many times so we concentrated on chilling out and doing less in the way of touristy things. We have revived our interest in cards with a nightly 'best of three' at both Crib and Euchre. Outcomes are mixed so no animosity has crept in.
The drive to Lakes Entrance was nice and easy in pleasant sunshine. Stopped at Cann River for morning tea.
Lakes Entrance
Having stayed here in the week after Easter this year, we thought we would try another caravan park. Great idea! After a while it became clear that Eastern Beach is our preferred location so we went back there and
Lakes
The start of the lake system just west of the entrance. it was good.
We did find though that the weather was cooling as we neared home. Maybe we came back too soon? It was a good three night conditioner for going back to Frankston.
It was great to catch up with Adam and Karine . They are great mates and we enjoy their company. Karine picked us up in her brand new Land Rover and we went to a really nice Lakes resaurant called 'No. 1'. The food was excellent .
It is an experience to walk over the sand dunes to the 90 Mile Beach. I have seen it many times but it still presents as a wild and awesome site . Pounding seas and beach are visible forever both ways that gives a strong feeling of isolated beauty. Whatever you do, make sure you take a look if ever you are near the 90 Mile Beach.
Bairnsdale
We decided to take a day trip to Bairnsdale for a little retail therapy. As it turned out there was nothing that opened our wallets! For a country town close to the Lakes System though, it has an extensive shopping and services centre including hospital etc.
And then came the final destination! Our inaugural 2008 Grey Nomad Tour was finished!
Frankston
Home! Are we happy? Yes.
Are we sad? Yes.
Will we do it again? Definitely. In fact we have two adventures in mind for next year:-
... In March we are planning to go from East to West in South Australia.
... In May we hope to go north again up the coast past Cairns and Port Douglas to Wonga Beach.
Thank you for your messages of support. Now we are back we can catch up with our friends again and learn what it really means to be fully retired. Michael and Helen are due back from Europe after nearly three years and Jason and Tash can be relieved of home guard duties. Xmas approaches quickly so we will be fully absorbed no doubt. Take care and don't wait for us to contact you. If you have a spare hour somewhere let us know!

Travels
Liked your previous blog. Can't wait till you really get underway with your new adventure. We are Canadians and did 3 months, 19,000km in a hired campervan in Sep/Oct/Nov of 2008. Absolutely fabulous time. However it is likely our last trip to Australia. So we (I) live through yours and others travels. ENJOY
