My first introduction to India was the taxi ride from Delhi airport to my hotel. It was 45 minute drive and between the fog, rain and the fact my driver's headlights weren't working....it was an "interesting" drive to say the least! Thankfully it was already 3am by this time and the streets were relatively empty. I spent my first morning in Delhi with an organisation called Salaam Baalak Trust. The trust helps street children by either providing them with 24 hour care whilst trying to relocate their parents or by finding an alternative home. Sadly many children prefer to stay on the streets as this allows them freedom to make their own decisions and run to their own schedule. I was shocked to find out that some 100,000 children currently living on the streets of Delhi ... read more

It was a whirlwind tour of Hong Kong, but definitely worth the effort. Hong Kong is every bit as good as people say and I look forward to spending more time there one day soon. I wanted to see and do as much as I possibly could in the short time I had, so decided to be typical tourist and buy a ticket for one of the jump on jump off bus tours. It was fantastic way to sit back, relax and take it all in. Sky scrapers, multiple story freeways, neon lights, shopping malls, beautiful hotels.....it's all jam packed in there! The bus took us through Kowloon, Stanley & over to Hong Kong Island. I rode the tram up to Victoria Peak, caught the Star Ferry across the Harbour and ate dim sum in Mongkok. ... read more

Well, Vietnamese overnight trains are certainly something else.... I'm told it's all part of the adventure! Not really is all I have to say about that! For those who haven't had the priviledge, I'll spare you the details, just keep this in mind in case you ever do decide to travel Vietnam. So, after a very long 14 hour train ride, we arrived to Hanoi, Vietnam's wonderous Capital. Hanoi is everything I've ever dreamt an Asian city to be. Loud, chaotic, full of character, smells (the good, the bad & the foul), touts selling anything and everything and old Vietnamese traditions competing with new age technologies. No trip to Northern Vietnam is complete without a visit to the beautiful Halong Bay. Here we cruised through some of the 2000+ islands, ate a simply scrumptous seafood lunch, ... read more

Well, it's been a wonderful trip already but it seems to just get better as the days fly by! We arrived into Hue from Hoi An, taking the very scenic coastal drive which was breathtaking. Hue city itself is nothing that different from any Asian other city, but the country side and surrounds are what you imagine old Vietnam to look like...rolling hills, intricatly designed pagoda's, road side food markets, greener than green rice paddocks and moto's, moto's, moto's everywhere! As this is the low season for tourism in Vietnam, many of the Intrepid travel groups have quite small numbers, so we have been joining other groups for certain activities and optional day tours. On our first night in Hue we dined at the Royal Banquet Dinner where your's truely was crowned Queen for the evening. ... read more

Good Morning Vietnam! After the chaos of Saigon it was off to the beach resort of Nha Trang to get in some rest & relaxation. The beaches here are beautiful and I was quite surprised with how well developed Nha Trang is. There is something for everyone here - great restaurants, beaches, shopping...and if bar's with private beaches and the longest cocktail list you could imagine are your thing, than Nha Trang is the place for you! Though Chinese New Year was a week ago, the celebrations are still going strong which has caused a few increases in prices and a few sights, market places & restaurants have been closed down for the week...slightly bad timing on my part but then again there is a holiday here about every 10 days so it can't avoided. We ... read more

Xin Cao from Vietnam! My Cambodian travel group and I arrived to Ho Chi Minh City for our final night together. Unfortunately I am the only one continuing on to Vietnam, so I've had to say goodbye to all my wonderful new friends I have spent the last few weeks with...sniff sniff... After a few weeks on the road and averaging about 3 hours sleep each night, we decided for our last full day together it was time for a little pampering. Here is where I mention that massages over this side of the world are not relaxing...unless you consider being thrown this way that that, having 80kg men standing on your back and little old ladies sticking their boney elbows into you, then you have come to the right place. If you prefer the more ... read more

BOS TARET Fila, our Cambodian group leader took us to his parents village, some 40 miles from Siem Reap. After having only visited the tourist town of Siem Reap this was a completely different world and the real Cambodia that I had expected to see. The village is very poor, with majority of the families surviving on $1 or less a day. Most families have around 6 - 8 children to feed and with the high cost of school supplies this makes it very difficult for families to be able to send their children to school. Of the 3000 inhabitants in the village, there are only 220 children currently enrolled in the local school. Considering 50% of the Cambodian population is under the age of 18 years, this is a disturbingly low number. Our group purchased ... read more

Asia February 13th 2010

After a long journey from the chaotic & dusty streets of Bangkok, we arrived into Siam Reap for our first stop on our Cambodian adventure. Already I am overwhelmed by the warmth of the Cambodian people and though it might sound like a cliche', despite having very little they seem to have everything. The locals are genuinely happy to have us in their country and they often run after us to say hello. My Intrpid travel group is made up of four Aussie girls (including one from Kingsgrove!!!), two Canadian girls, two Irish lasses, a Dutch girl and two English lads....to say I'm absolutely thrilled by my group would be an understatement. It took all of about 5 minutes for all of us to now have 10 brilliant new friends and there's never a dull moment! ... read more

Sa wat dee from Bangkok! Just a quick one as I don't have much time and the internet is painfully slow... I have spent a wonderful couple of days exploring this big, chaotic, dirty, hot, smelly, tacky town. The food is AMAZING, the cocktails cheap and sights in abundance. I've also met a lot of great people along the way to have some fun with and to see the sights. Next off I join my Intrepid group and we head to Siem Reap for the first stop of our 2 week Cambodian adventure - I can't wait! Sending a love & hugs to you all xx... read more
