Geo: 39.13, 117.2Ship will be docked for 3 days while many of the passengers will be off touring Beijing and beyond.Long day! Clearing the ship and customs was stupid. Nothing like starting the day 2 hours behind schedule. After over 2 hours driving and lunch, we visited the Temple of Heaven. Second stop was the Summer Palace. Not like the ones in Europe. Dinner was Peking Duck.... read more

Asia » South Korea » Seoul March 18th 2017

Geo: 37.5323, 126.957Arrived in Incheon, the port for Seoul. Another clear day with moderate temperatures. Our first stop was lunch. Tour departure was 11:30 and they have to feed you on tours over 5 hours. It was a typical Korean celebration style lunch. Over 25 choices shared by groups of 4. I tried almost everything and something's I still don't know what they were. Didn't get sick so it must have been okay. In Seoul, we stopped at the summer palace. It was destroyed by the Japanese and rebuilt over the last 150 years. Reportedly over 7700 rooms in many buildings over many acres. Our next two stops were shopping breaks. The first was just a city street but the second was a typical market street. Lots of cheap things to buy and numerous eateries. Very ... read more

Geo: 33.5122, 126.526Our tour today was on the largest South Korean Island of Jeju. At the centre of the island is a volcano (not active). Our first stop was the Folklore and Natural History Museum. Some interesting displays our the culture and history of the island. Next stop was Yongduam to see the naturally sculptured rock in the form of a dragon hence the name "Dragon Rock". Last stop before returning to the ship was the Jeju Dongmun Market. Lots of vegetables, fish, meats and citrus fruit. Very colourful.Weather was great today. Not a cloud in the sky and around 55 degrees. And Happy St. Patrick's day too. We get to celebrate a lot earlier than you. We are currently 13 hours ahead.... read more

Geo: 32.75, 129.88Unfortunately Nagasaki's is known for one of the two cities bombed in WWII and that is what most of the tours concentrated on. Actually, we wouldn't have missed it anyhow. We finally got a nice sunny day. A little cool but dry and sunny is always nice. We started our visit with a cable car ride to the top of Mt. Inasa. The view is nice. Although we were not there at night, the night view is supposedly one of the top three. Those being Nagasaki, Hong Kong & Monaco. We did 2 of the 3 on this cruise! Next we travelled to the Peace Statue. Also in the area was a water fountain and various sculptures donated from around the world. Last stop was the Atomic Bomb Museum and Hypo Centre. Not sure ... read more

Asia » Taiwan » Taipei March 13th 2017

Geo: 25.02, 121.45Ship docked in Keelung about 30 minutes on a good day to Taipei. Our weather was overcast today. It misted a little at times but nothing too bad. We started our tour at the Lin Family Garden. Very green. Next stop was Dalongdong Baoan Temple. The architecture was stunning. Very ornate. Basically what you would expect to see. After lunch, we stopped at the National Revolutionary Martyrs Shrine. Again typical architecture but also the changing of the guards. Next was the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall. A huge building dedicated to him. Probably known as the liberator of Taiwan. Didn't like the Chinese rule. Our final stop was a photo stop for Taipei 101. It was the tallest building for a few years. It's one the buildings you see on New Years Eve and the ... read more

Geo: 22.33, 114.18Took the "Red Loop" today on Hong Kong Island and a harbour tour. Never complain about air quality. The "fog" isn't fog. It's the poor air quality here. Not good for people with asthma which I am one. Ended up wearing a mask. It helped. You will see from the pictures from the harbour tour the poor visibility. Riding around on the bus was interesting. Lots of high end shopping in Hong Kong and traffic today.... read more

Geo: 22.33, 114.18We booked a hop-on-hop-off bus tour. Pickup point was about a 10 minute walk. Had some time to kill before the first pickup. We walked over a street and found this very typical market street. Lots of fresh vegetables, fish monger sand butcher shops. Lots of people. Exactly what you would expect to see.Started the "Blue Loop" tour. Lots of interesting sites. Drove past Sky 100 tower. Too overcast to go up for a good look around. Continued to the harbour to catch a ferry to Hong Kong Island. Now onto the "Green Loop". Around many skyscrapers. Some interesting architecture. The road system is amazing how it winds around up and down between them. Some advanced planning! Traffic moves pretty good. Mass transit is very popular so there are not that many cars.
