Geo: 43.6485, -79.3854We are currently at 35000 ft over the Northern Atlantic somewhere south of Iceland with another 5 hours of flying time ahead of us.I hope you have enjoyed following us through Africa. This is a trip that really started before we got married. Lisa, our fabulous travel agent at Valente Travel who helped plan and book this trip knows that for our honeymoon Sharon wanted to go to Africa. It was probably a good thing that we didn't attempt that on a limited budget having done it the right way this time. The planning for this trip started over a year ago. We made a visit to Lisa to ask about what she recommended for the trip. Goway Travel specializes in Africa and it was the best move to trust them in making the plans. ... read more

Geo: 42.3178, -83.0339Some have wondered what type of camera I used. I shared many photos with other travellers since they liked my photos. I was able to upload them frequently to my iPad with an SD card adapter. For retirement I decided it was time to upgrade to a newer camera. My old on did a great job for over 5 years (South America and Galapagos) but I wanted more zoom capability and more mega pixels. I have used Canon cameras and just upgrade. I took a picture of the camera. Yes it is that small. It fits in my pocket too.I also have a GoPro session for some videos too but the camera does a good job at video too.... read more

Geo: -17.93, 25.84MOSI OA TUNYA means "The smoke that thunders" is the native name for Victoria Falls. It is another 2 months until rain will come. The falls are a fraction in size. One area called "Horseshoe Falls" is completely dry. Soon only Devil's Cataract and the Main Falls will be flowing. All others will dry up. In the rainy season, Victoria falls is the longest falls in the world. Not now! Niagara is the largest in volume. Iquazu is largest in system of falls stretching over 2 miles with 275 falls while Angel Falls are the highest. We have now seen them all! Even though it is the dry season, they are still magnificent. Zambezi Explorer sunset cruise for our last excursion. A nice lazy trip to see the sunset and have a few drinks. ... read more

Geo: -17.93, 25.84The wake call today was bittersweet. No game drive. A flight to Victoria Falls. About a two hour drive to the airport but it's the only direct flight. Soon we will have seen Victoria Falls (largest?), Angel Falls (Venezuela in 1989) which is the tallest, Iguazu Falls (Argentina 2014) which are spectacular and of course Niagara Falls. I think we have most of the major waterfalls covered now. According to some websites, these are the top four in the world! We have a couple of adventures booked so hopefully I can get some good shots. Made it! Glad we had help with getting here. We had a direct flight but it lands in Zambia. We are staying in Zimbabwe. Very interesting border crossing. We had to purchase a Visa in Zambia. Our driver got ... read more

Geo: -23.926, 31.4209Seems like our plans are always changing. Planned on seeing zebra and hippo. Radio traffic between guides who have seen a pack of wild dogs. About as rare of sighting as the cheetah. Off we go. Found them. I was shooting pictures of them as they crossed the road because the might keep going. Nope. They stopped on the road! After that we did see hippo plus other animals. Afternoon drive, our last one. We left early because the cheetah has made a kill and will be in the area and every other group will be heading there. Find the kill but no cheetah. To prevent being ambushed by another predator like the lion or leopard, they move away. In this case about 150m. He didn't pick a great spot to be viewed from ... read more

Geo: -23.926, 31.4209What a beautiful Sunday morning. Saw 6 rhino today. While a foot we had a close encounter with a bull elephant. Rule number one, don't run! He made a couple of charges and vocalized he didn't want us any closer. He finally backed away and we did too. We later tried to find the lion pack that had killed a buffalo but they had left for water. Maybe this afternoon. We have having extraordinary luck. Some of the encounters we have had our guide hasn't experienced in months. It's not always the photos but the behaviours too. We watches two rhino heading for a watering hole. It was just mud. The guide said you could see the disappointment almost. They had another walk ahead of them to another watering hole. They did like the ... read more

Geo: -23.926, 31.4209The lions we saw last night were on the move. They came almost to the lodge site definitely looking for some. It turned out that another group had killed a water buffalo the day before. The male in that group made a bad decision to let others know. The two male were going to find this male and if possible kill it. That's the law of the wild. We tracked them to the site. When they got close, the two split up to try to ambush the male. The male spotted them and took off running with the other two closing in. It was amazing to watch this all happen at a distance. Other animals were running from this situation. We couldn't see the attack but we heard a small scream. The guide figures ... read more
