We are in Peru for the next 20 days where the mobile service is excellent. Tuesday 29 March 2011 It was goodbye to the Upper Amazon, after a wonderful time. We will see the Napo River again, but from the Brazil side, but not until June. We caught the local bus back to Tena before catching a touring bus where Tom and I sat up the back. Sunday 27 March 2011 At 8am we caught a local bus which we stopped along the road to our hotel. We drove 30 minutes to the Quito central bus station to travel 4.5 hours into the Upper Amazon basic to our next stop, the Cotococha Lodge, which is 200Kms East of Quito. We had seats booked for us by Diego. It was a great bus and we shared it with the locals. Every time we stopped the locals would get on the bus to sell their wares and would get off at the next town. Everywhere we travel is so picturesque with having the Andes as the back drop. We were reducing elevation as the village we were going to was at 500 metres a.s.l. We changed busses at Tena. After departing Brisbane at 8.35 on Thursday 24 March 2011, we took 27 hours to Quito, via Auckland, Santiago (Chile) and Guayaquil (Ecuador). Quito is in the Andes, the capital of Ecuador and 2800metre above sea level (asl). Temperature was about 10 degrees when we arrived and had been raining. We stayed at Hotel Sabastian for the firtst night. San Francisco de Quito, most often called Quito (Spanish pronunciation: kito, is the capital city of Ecuador in northwestern South America. It is located in north-central Ecuador in the Guayllabamba river valley basin, on the eastern slopes of Pichincha, an active volcano in the Andes mountains. Sunday 27 March: Days 3-4 Amazon Jungle, Peru Discover the abundant plant and animal life within the steamy Amazon Jungle. Tuesday 29 March: Days 5-7 Banos, Peru There are plenty of opportunities to get active in this town, famous for its therapeutic thermal springs. Friday 1 April: Days 8-9 Cuenca, Peru Shop for a Panama hat along Cuenca's cobblestone streets.
