Well it was our last full day in Norway and we tried to get the most out of it but like normally on your last day we ended up packing which seemed to take up most of the day, which is weird as I never unpacked in our Cell Block H. I just left my suitcase under the bed still full as no space in the wardrobe. We went to the briefing on what you need to do to leave the ship so all well on the western front. We had booked on a tour of the Marble Mines starting late afternoon so that was exciting and part of the trip was to go on the Atlantic Ocean Road. This road, only 5.2 miles long, took 6 years to build during which time it was hit ... read more

So, even though the skies were clear, no Northern Lights again. I would really love to see them once more at least so more fingers crossed. Last night us girls were putting our thinking caps on as, although we had previously crossed the Arctic Circle Northbound, we wanted to make crossing it Southbound to be an experience. So we hatched a plan to meet on the top deck but this time we would be in the hot tub drinking champagne. As we would be crossing early around 8ish it meant making sure we all had our alarm clocks on. The girls meet up on the top deck with our dressing gowns, boots and wooly hats as does Eric who is now named Erica for this purpose as he decided to join us. Mike was the official ... read more

Woke up this morning to a total white out you could not see outside the window due to heavy snow. The good thing is the windows are clear of salt so either the snow cleared it off or they found a little boy wandering around and hung him off the top with a sponge ha ha. I forgot to mention I went to a lecture yesterday about the south pole it was really interesting and now I understand how the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen reached the south pole ahead of Scott and his party. It must have been devastating for Scott and his party to find that they were second in the race to reach the south pole. I also understand now why the whole of Amundsen’s party returned and how Scotts party all died on ... read more

Well you know in yesterday’s blog I told you about the gale we sailed through, well since then I have found out it was one of the worst for a number of crew and there was a lot of crew seasickness. On the tannoy today it appears people were complaining that they were struggling to see out of the windows because of the salt on the windows and they felt the windows should be cleaned - well number one it is icy and if you pour water on the windows it will turn to ice due to the sub zero temperatures and you will definitely not be able to see through the windows. Number 2 it is still too choppy out there so are we now going into the dark ages and hanging a little boy ... read more

After I had done some research it was agreed we would sign up to go to North Cape. North Cape is the northern most point of Europe and is marked by a globe. The globe was erected in 1977 and has now become the symbol of the North Cape. The North Cape is the point where the Norwegian Sea and part of the Atlantic Ocean meet the Barents Sea. Now this is nothing to do with the North Cape but a dilemma I have had since we have been on the ship. So this is a question for all the chefs out there. How do they keep eggs runny? There are two bowls of eggs, one bowl with hard boiled eggs and one with soft boiled eggs. Every morning soft boiled eggs are in bubbling water ... read more

So day 3 and we arrive in Trondheim which is a beautiful little town. It houses Nidaros Cathedral which is seen as one of the most sacred buildings in all of Norway. Whilst walking to the Cathedral we pass lots of beautiful buildings along the river; Norway is a really pretty place. We arrive at the Cathedral and it does not disappoint at all. It has 3 organs and one of them is the largest in Norway. Once again the stained glass windows do not disappoint. So quickly we made our way back to the ship before it departs and once on board we set sail and pass one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world. We are once again treated to the Northern lights and what a show it was - however, all green ... read more

So we set off from Bergen at 8pm and during the night we stopped at Floro and Maloy which if I had not been told I would never have guessed as it was so smooth. I did not have a bad night’s sleep in Cell Block H on the day bed as our room only has one single bed and as Mike is getting on haha I thought the better of things and let him sleep in the bed (one in the bank for me then). Anyway, I was told that I should get up early as we will be stopping at a little place called Torvik and it is beautiful - dutifully I did this and if I am honest and truthful I could have had a bit more sleep as it might be beautiful ... read more

Well it started yesterday with, to be totally honest, a full day travelling to Bergen. This seems so weird as it is not that far but I suppose when you have to change in Amsterdam and have a couple of hours there it does take its toll. We arrived in Amsterdam and knowing that alcohol was really expensive on the ship, e.g a bottle of house wine £50, we thought we would have a beer in the terminal before we went to the gate - BIG MISTAKE as we did not envisage having to go through customs again. Now because we are not in the EU we had to queue up and not go through the electronic gates. Well when you have only 2 boarder guards on and we seem to have people with issues with ... read more

Day One of the Barbados to Panama cruise to Soufriere St Lucas So who are our crew this leg of the journey? So of course there is myself and Mike, then we also have Eric and Sue and our American contingency Cleve and Sandy who went across the Atlantic with us. Now we have more crew who have joined us Sue, Anne, Kate and Julie who are Sue and Eric’s Friends and then Sylvia and Mimi and Mike and Darleen who are the friends of Cleve and Sandy‘s. Introductions now complete. So Mike and I are up early for the sunrise and it was brilliant as no one else is there apart from another lady. It was nice to have Mike get up this early - not like when we crossed the Atlantic it is definitely ... read more

On the road again this time to another site near Rouen. We are making our way back home and cannot decide whether to get the ferry or the tunnel let alone what time we are going to cross. The journey to this campsite was a bit different as we needed to get a ferry across to Jumieges where our next site is and then found out that the height limit was 3 metres. Well our rig is 2.89 metres and then a little bit more for the wi-fi and solar panel so not sure we would meet the 3 metre limit. Anyway this decision was taken away from us as the ferry had broken down. So now we had quite a bit of a detour to go over by the bridge. Well this bridge was so ... read more
