Up early to get to Le Mans. Well we had a diversion of what must have been at least 20 miles as the A28 where we needed to get on was closed. To be honest this was quite good for me as it gave me a break from being buffeted on the motorway - I know I will need a back and shoulder massage when we get back to the UK as cor blimey my right shoulder has so many aches due to having to hold the motorhome in the wind. We have to stop at a toll and there are swarms of gendarmeries on the other side so I am thinking get me out of here bleeding quick before I get stopped even though I have done nothing wrong. However when I see a policeman ... read more

So we stayed on a nice site called Camping du lac de St Pardoux which was next to a large lake. The campsite was okay apart from lots of things were closed and would you believe it you could not order any fresh bread or croissants for the morning - am I in France or what, no fresh bread or croissants sacre bleu!!!!! The lake was amazing and the most amazing thing I have ever seen was people wakeboarding using jumps on the lake with no speedboat in site pulling them along. It was really incredible to be honest and was great to watch. The water boarder holds onto a bridle that is then attached to wire that is on a loop around the lake. The French do seem to do things well for an outdoor ... read more

Well I am back after a few days away from blogging. As we had a couple of days not doing activities apart from we hired electric bikes to go on a cycle ride with the rest of the group. We picked the bikes up and decided just to take them for a spin before the ride with the group. This was a great idea as going up a hill with a camber I fell off - so that put paid to me going out with the group - I was not going to make a fool of myself especially as we would have been going on roads. Mike went with the group though and thoroughly enjoyed it. I stayed and was reading my book and the bike was staring at me so I thought this is ... read more

Well I think it will be certain that Goose will not make it to Christmas with his navigating skills - who would have believed he used to have over 400 employees!!!!! So we stock up at the supermarket and turn right - well around 8 miles down the road he says I think we are going the wrong way. Now 6 of these 8 miles were on completely winding roads and when I say winding I mean winding and with a camber so I was not happy having to retrace my steps - but what else could I do? (Polite answers on a postcard please!!) As you can imagine Goose was not in my best thoughts at this moment as I said you should look at the map and see which town you should be heading ... read more

Well Goose really reverted to type again and used the SatNav and this time he really got me into a few pickles including single track roads a cliff that overhung and we only just got under it (with him stood in front of the van directing me - at that moment the accelerator pedal seemed very inviting!!) - so as you can all imagine I was not a happy camper and that is putting it mildly especially as the Motorhome needed AdBlue again. All I can say is the air in the Motorhome was Blue with me shouting what have you got me into again. Anyway I think our motorhome is an AdBlue alcoholic if there can be such a thing. At a garage Mike is asking for Ad Blue in French. He says Ad Blue, ... read more

Europe » France » Aquitaine » Bergerac September 8th 2022

Bergerac and the worst news ever about the passing of our Queen After leaving the Chateau we are on the road again, this time to Bergerac and guess what not a bad journey with Goose using the Sat Nav and you guessed it the trusty old map. Now whenever I think of Bergerac I think of the TV programme where there were murders so it’s good that Goose is getting better at navigating otherwise who knows what would happen - there could be a new big patio next to the motorhome and no sight of Goose! Whilst driving I get the alert that we need some AdBlue - well this motorhome seems to drink AdBlue as if there’s no tomorrow and we are forever filling it up or so it appears. So we stop at a ... read more

Europe » France » Aquitaine » Saint-Emilion September 7th 2022

Saint Emilion Well yesterday was a quiet one we just walked to the lake etc and took it easy so decided to give you all a day off from reading my blog. So next day we set off to Saint Emilion and Goose was back on form using the map and also his trusty Sat Nav but to be honest until the last bit we were on not bad roads. We stop for diesel and Goose gives me 20 euros to get a coffee - I think if I need 20 euros for a coffee they can go and take a run and jump. Anyway the coffee is from a machine and you needed to use a card so I decided that this was a no no. So I give the money back to Goose who ... read more

Europe » France » Aquitaine » Dordogne September 6th 2022

On the road again!! So we are off on our travels again this time to Cognac la Foret which is a little village and we have found a nice little campsite there so let’s see how Goose gets us there! Well the start was not good as within seconds Goose has taken me down some really tight roads where only one vehicle can get and let’s face it a motorhome is a little wider than a normal car. Then he takes me down an even smaller road so I think hey ho something is not right here - and I ask him is he looking at the map or are you using the Sat Nav with the volume down so I do not know - caught him in the act Sat Nav with no volume. We ... read more

Europe » France » Centre » Chinon September 5th 2022

A Day in Chinon So the day starts with a visit to the boulangerie in town. Surprisingly, the campsite doesn’t offer a bread/croissant service. Wouldn’t happen on my marketing/business opportunity watch I can assure you. Well couldn’t beat the taste of the croissants first thing. Then we decided to have a day in Chinon as it is a lovely town and go up to the castle. We get to the castle and guess what it is not a castle at all it is a fortress. The fortress is absolutely amazing and in really good condition. The views were stunning. My only one down side was although you could go into the fortress there was not a lot inside apart from film memorabilia for films such as Game of Thrones, Zena the warrior, the Hobbit, Malificiant etc ... read more

Europe » France » Centre » Chinon September 4th 2022

Chinon Wake up ready for my cup of char and Mike says I am not sure if your milk has gone off - so I say give it here, I smell it and it seems okay so then stupid or what, I decide to taste it and get a mouthful of gone off milk. You would think I would have some sense, but no, I still have no sense and now a mouthful of gone off milk. So first thing I say is let’s find some milk - this is an amazing fact though that it seems the french only have long life milk not fresh, this is weird. So Goose has gone back to the norm and started to use the Sat Nav again instead of the trusty map. We had to use toll roads ... read more
