Alabaster, AL – Dutton AL Nick & Ginger – Moochdocking!!!!! Days 19 – 24 The run from Alabaster AL to Dutton was beautiful, but a word of advice. If you ever have to travel Interstate 59 in Alabama, DON’T, find another route. It is the worse road I have ever been on!!!! There were so many cracks and potholes, the RV did nothing but rattle the entire time we were on it. The trip was only about 2.5 hours drive time that took us 7 hours to complete, we made a few of stops on our way. The first was Bass Pro Shop, we timed leaving Alabaster to arrive at 9am, right as they opened. We spent an hour browsing and shopping while we waited for our next stop the Barber Motorsport Museum. The Barber Motorsport ... read more

Perdido Key FL – Alabaster, AL Siluria Brewing Company – Harvest Host Day 18 On the road again! Sometimes these one and done’s get old fast. Leaving Perdido Key, we are making our way to Nick & Ginger’s house in Dutton AL, it is farther than we like to travel in one day, so we are stopped at a Harvest Host on our way. Harvest Host are a great place to stop for a night. Siluria Brewing Company was no different. They had a large gravel parking lot that was very easy to pull into. As we pulled into the lot, Cam (our host and bartender) came out to direct us where to park. We were the first two of 4 RV’s for coming for the night. We were parked 75 feet from a very active ... read more

Marianna FL – Perdido Key FL Perdido Key Marina & RV Resort Days 16 We took the scenic route from Marianna to Perdido Key. The direct route would have been to take Interstate 10, but Mark & Karen suggested taking Route 231 to Route 98. This route was about an hour longer than taking I10 but much nicer. Route 231 is a nice rolling highway, Route 98, was your typical main roadway through multiple shore towns. I think it was worth the extra hour of travel. Perdido Key Marina & RV Resort is a small resort, with 56 RV sites, and 24 slips. Many people come back year after year. Fellow loopers Jim and Norma, are staying here in a slip. Jim has also taken a job as their Activities Directory. We were very disappointed to ... read more

Gainesville FL – Marianna FL Stay-N-Go Campground Days 14 – 15 Leaving Gainesville, we are heading to Marianna FL to explore the Florida Cavern State Park. We tried to get a camp site in the state park, but the website said there was not any available. We later found out the website does not work, and we should have called. Our second choice was the Stay-N-Go camp site. Stay-N-Go is really a great concept for quick stops. It is a bare bones campground, with full hook ups, and wifi but no other amenities. It is only for self-contained campers. There are no bathrooms or staff on site. The sites are well spaced out, and a concrete pad for the RV, but no fire pit or picnic table. It is good for a night or two, and ... read more

Weeki Wachee FL – Gainesville FL Moochdocking – Steve & Jane (Sabbatical) Days 11 - 13 Leaving Weeki Wachee both RV’s needed to empty our holding tanks and fill up with both gas and propane. Our first stop was a gas station that was not designed for RV’s but was big enough to get into. Planning ahead we did not hook up the jeep, Angel followed us in the Jeep. The second stop was a local RV dealer that had a dump station and bulk propane. It was a wise decision to wait to hook up the Jeep. We had to turn around and backup both to dump and get propane. It was interesting making our way around the parking lot, weaving around very expensive RV’s. Once we finished up at the RV dealer we attached ... read more

St Petersburg, FL - Weeki Wachee FL Moochdocking – Jennie & Dennis house Days 9 - 10 After four nights in St Petersburg, it was time to move on. We headed to meet up with Mark & Karen at Mark’s sisters (Jeannie & Dennis) house. We took our time breaking down and heading out. The drive to Weeki Wachee was about 70 miles, we took FL Route 589. It was a pleasant change from all the driving we did on I95. The one thing we are learning about Florida, is you cannot get anywhere without traveling on a toll road. I refuse to look at our EZ Pass account until we get home! We went to Weeki Wachee to meet up with Mark & Karen. They have been keeping their RV there while ... read more

Blythe Island GA - St Petersburg, FL Days 4 - 8 After another one night stop we looked forward to stopping for a couple of days. It was a easy ride from Blythe Island to St Petersburg, most of the trip traffic was moving, and it was not until we got to Tampa that we hit stop an go traffic. We made reservations at Robert's Mobile Home & RV Park. It is a mix of permanent mobile homes, long term RV's and transient RV's. When we checked in at the office, the receptionist told us to wait at the office, and someome would come in a golf cart to escort us to our site. We used that time to disconnect the Jeep. Not only do they escort to your site, they guide/direct you into the site. ... read more

Blythe Island Regional Park, Brunswick GA Trip Day 3 Travel Day 3 Another very smooth easy start of the day. We were the first RV to leave Ellerbe Farm, and Harold was up and working before we left. He had already collect eggs from the chickens, and was delivering them to the campers that had ordered them. Getting out of Ellerbe's was very easy, The jeep was still connected, we did not have power, water or sewer hooked up, so all we had to do was pull the slides in, and lift the leveling jacks. Both of them are done by pushing buttons, Angel handled this while I checked the lights and that everthing outside was clear. I did find one of turn signals on the jeep was not working. I did some trouble shooting but ... read more

Ellerbe Vegtable Farm, Timmonsville SC Trip Day 2 Travel Day 2 Our second travel day went much smoother than our first, and I expect each day will get even easier. Unless there is a need to we do not plan to set an alarm clock to start our day. (For me that is not a problem, I am an early riser.) Much like the boat there is a little prep work to do before we depart. It is much easier with the RV, we do not have to worry about the wind, tides or currents, but we do try to keep traffic in mind. Because we did not have any hookups, and we did not disconnect the jeep from the RV it only took about ten minutes to get the RV ready to travel. We are ... read more

First Welcome to our newest Blog, Sorry for the change in hosting sites, but Off Exploring looks like it is no longer being supported. During our Great Loop Adventure, Angel and I decided to buy a RV so we could contiune our adventures. No we are not gving up our boat. We will continue to boat during the summer, and travel by RV during the winter. We both have decide that we like the warm weather much better the the cold.
