St Petersburg, FL - Weeki Wachee FL
Moochdocking – Jennie & Dennis house
Days 9 - 10
After four nights in St Petersburg, it was time to move on. We headed to meet up with Mark & Karen at Mark’s sisters (Jeannie & Dennis) house. We took our time breaking down and heading out. The drive to Weeki Wachee was about 70 miles, we took FL Route 589. It was a pleasant change from all the driving we did on I95. The one thing we are learning about Florida, is you cannot get anywhere without traveling on a toll road. I refuse to look at our EZ Pass account until we get home! We went to Weeki Wachee to meet up with Mark & Karen. They have been keeping their RV there while they get it ready to travel.
We spent Tuesday running errands and finishing up some work on our RV. One of the jobs that I could not do in New Jersey was to install a wifi antenna on the roof of the RV. Part of the installation required drilling holes in the roof both to run the
wires into the RV and for the screws to mount the antenna. To seal those holes both the roof and air temperature had to be above 50. When we left New Jersey, it was a lot colder than that.
We finished off Tuesday night with a great steak dinner on the grill. We are definitely not roughing it. We did not even have to get our grill out, Dennis was nice enough too bring his out for us.
Wednesday was departure day from Dennis & Jeannie’s, while we could not have asked for better host, we had plans to head to Steve & Jane’s (Sabbatical) house in Gainesville FL For those new to our blog, Steve & Jane are also fellow looper’s that we spent a lot of time traveling with. Sabbatical is the name of their boat.
Before heading out from Weeki Wachee, I washed the RV. It was a lot bigger and longer of a job that I thought, it ended up taking almost 2 hours. Washing it included having the county sheriff stopping by to look for me. I did not realize my somehow I activated a emergency
SOS from my phone. I had just finished washing the RV when we saw the Sheriff drive by really slowly. We thought it was odd, as we were on a dead end street. I also happened to look at my phone, and saw two missed calls from a local number. I called the number back and it was the Sheriff’s Department. Now I was really puzzled, as the Sheriff had turned around and stopped in front of our RV, he asked if everything was alright as they had received a 911 hang up, from my phone number and traced the GPS to me. We were glad that he took our word that everything was ok.
On our way out of Weeki Wachee, both Mark & Karen and Angel & I had to stop at a local RV dealer to empty our holding tanks, and fill our propane tanks. Angel drove the jeep, so that it would be easier when we got to the dealer. I was very very glad she did. To get to both the dump station and propane fill I had to turn around and backup. The parking lot was large enough to maneuver around,
but it would have been impossible to do towing the jeep plus you cannot backup towing a car.
Our next stop Moochdocking with Jane & Steve Gainesville FL.
