One of the most important things we need to do as we become full-time RVers is to establish a home address, which will be our “domicile” for the foreseeable future, and get registered to vote (in the apparently faint hope we’ll have an honest election someday soon). To get all that done, we needed to get to Livingston, Texas, and that’s where we are now. We’ve had our mailing address here for almost a year, and now have Texas plates on our Truck and RV. Next, we need to get our Texas driver licenses, but have to wait until our birth certificates and marriage certificates arrive. (I mistakenly assumed our Washington State enhanced licenses were sufficient to prove our ID, but was mistaken. Oh well.) They should arrive in time for us to get all the ... read more

It’s been more than a month since we’ve posted any information, and it’s time to catch up at least a little. We are now in Van Horn, Texas and will be leaving in the morning for Sonora, Texas and think we might get to San Antonio next week. We left Yuma the day after Easter. It was time to get moving again, before Yuma gets entirely too hot. We also have to get to Texas so we can get started establishing our domicile for the time we’ll be living full time in our RV. Who knows: we might even decide to settle there. There are many things about Texas to make that idea a good one. We’ll see. Our first stop after Yuma was Picacho, Arizona, which proved to be a delightful place. The park was ... read more

We’ve now been in Yuma, Arizona for 3 months, and it’s been an amazing time, enjoying Christmas when the weather is far from cold and white. After the new year is well under way, it’s interesting to consider our changes in 2022: A little over year ago, I was still an employee, even though it was two weeks of annual leave with one work day left to check out of a federal government job, and believe me, checking out of a federal job is hard labor. Just a year later, life is very different: I’m not waking up at zero dark thirty to go to work, even if the commute was just down the hall. Our home is now 37 feet long, and happens to be wherever we happen to be. At the moment, that’s Yuma, ... read more

Happy 2023 to everyone. It’s a new start so let it be a happy one, healthy one, everyone deserves this wish. Thank you for all the cards and good wishes that found their way to our home. We didn’t expect them but it was so fun to open our mail to see personal cards so far from Lynnwood. The RV Park here remembered the reason for the season with a Christmas Eve service that was quite touching with music, lit candles for Silent Night, the Hallelujah Chorus, and a really good turnout. Our Christmas celebration was unique this year, to say the least. No tree in our RV, no typical wrapped presents, but that didn’t keep Mr. Amazon Santa away. Santa brought us a table for outside use that collapses and is lightweight but big enough ... read more

This is Tom's and my 53rd Christmas together. As Tom and I had lunch today, it occurred to me we have come “full circle”. In no particular order let us see just how… In 1969 we left Seattle in early September for our life together as Mr. and Mrs. Dyer, from our parents’ homes. In 2022 we left the Seattle area in late September for our life together as Mr. and Mrs. Dyer, retired. “Homeless from our 30-year residence”. It was just the two of us. Far from home to Pensacola FL. Career ahead This year, it is just the two of us, in Yuma, far from home. Retirement ahead Our first home was a rented mobile home in a mobile home park in Florida. Our new home is our own Arctic Fox 37-foot 5th wheel, ... read more

We’ve become so absorbed in our travels, we left a few blanks in our blog, and now is a good time to catch up a little. The first place we really need to add information is about our stay in Lynden, because we really did enjoy our time there. The community and the surrounding area are filled with really nice people, and we had the pleasure and privilege to meet many of them. We’ve already written about some of the events we attended, so forgive me if I repeat anything, but our time in Lynden was very, very nice, and the people were a very big reason for it. When we first checked in to the Lynden RV Park, Natalie asked the lady at the desk for suggestions about restaurants, she suggested Burnt Ends, a barbecue ... read more

Here it is, the 27th, we’ve been here in Quartzsite since the 10th, and we need an update, at long last. It has been a very interesting couple weeks in a very different kind of place. When we checked in 2 weeks ago, the hostess invited us to sign up for the Thanksgiving Day potluck at this park. And we weren’t even checked in yet. Natalie signed up to bring her favorite potato casserole, even though she had not yet even tried either oven in this RV. We came to Quartzsite, AZ to attend a rally of Campers for Christ, which took place the week of the 14th. We met some fantastic people and had an absolutely outstanding experience. The rally itself was held at a BLM campground just a mile north of town because the ... read more

Wild wind greeted us when we arrived in Las Vegas, and it came back to send us on our way out, with gusto. As we travelled toward Quartzsite, AZ we saw more new things along the way. The vegetation changed of course from scrub to wiry shrubs to cactus groupings. We saw NOT ONE ANIMAL - no cattle, horses, farms,1 barn, and no water either. But the strangest feeling was the road. We had to leave interstate highways so most of our route was 2-lane US highway, and roads were straight as far as the eye could see. And much of the road through the desert included miles and miles of dips and rises which sometimes felt like a roller coaster. Short stretches even included the old Route 66. Throughout the 2-lane drive, we did not ... read more

After St George, we drove through some an area called “the Gorge” in the northwest corner of Arizona. The Gorge has even more interesting hills and rock formations. They were as dramatic, but not as nearly as colorful as the hills around St George and Zion National Park. And the highway follows a much more winding path through the hills making it an exciting drive with our luxurious 37-foot home attached. Before leaving St George, the weather guessers and friends who knew where we were going suggested the winds could be a problem, so they urged us to be careful and take it slow. We did take it slower than normal, but the winds weren’t very noticeable we emerged from the Gorge into mostly flat. When our drive was over for the day and we were ... read more

St George, Utah a sprawling, rapidly growing city in the southwest corner of Utah. It was one of our destinations because friends retired there decades ago. The city was starting to promote itself as a great place to retire or have a business, and the promotions have continued to work quite well. Nobody seems to be sure where the name “St George” came from, but one story suggests one man named George was sent to the region with others to establish a community and temple, farm potatoes and such. Potatoes didn’t really like to grow in the area, and because every adult male Mormon is considered to be a bishop and when he dies, he name becomes known as “Saint” whatever, so the city was named after this George. The second story tells us Brigham Young ... read more
