…laundry day!! Yay…clean clothes! Always a good day when we have clean clothes. More importantly, we needed them because we went to the Orioles game. Actually, we didn’t really care about the game, we went to see the park. Oriole Park at Camden Yards is a really nice baseball park. I hadn’t realized the alley between right field and the B & O Warehouse was incorporated into the new ballpark grounds. There are souvenir shops, cafes and pubs outside of which you can sit, relax and enjoy the sounds of the game. We walked around the park, taking it all in before we grabbed dinner at Boog’s BBQ. The food was pretty good, but I thought it was a little dry without the barbecue sauce. There were several to choose from at the condiment bar. The ... read more

…in Washington, D.C. What a long, tiring day! We drove to a park and ride about 20 minutes away to take the light rail train into Baltimore. Warning: you must be smarter than the machine to purchase tickets. It took us three or four tries and two machines to realize the credit card was facing the wrong direction. We hopped aboard and grabbed a couple seats. They were facing backward. Oh well, we’ll be able to see where we’ve been. The last stop before that particular train went to the airport was not where we needed to be to catch a train to D.C. Using the handy-dandy driving app on my phone, we walked the mile or so to Baltimore’s Penn Station. Once there, getting tickets was easy now that we knew how. We had our ... read more

...but we're not actually in Baltimore as the location says. Freeland, MD is not on their list...yet. Anyway, today was a drive day. We did actually try to go out to Virginia Beach and do what we did in Myrtle Beach, but we couldn't find a big enough parking lot so we bailed and came straight(ish) here to the campground/resort. This place has just about everything including an RC track! It's a huge park with lots of full-time and seasonal residents, same as all the others. We drove across another long bridge that led to an even longer tunnel that took us under Entrance Reach and Hampton Bar. Trailer’s first tunnel. I forgot to mention one thing in yesterday's post...somewhere between the Outer Banks and the campground, we were driving on highway 168 and drove by ... read more

...required over 400 miles of driving due to navigational errors. I need to NOT copy the directions to our next campground from Google Maps if we're not driving directly there. Fortunately it only cost us about 30 miles and 45 minutes. I'm gonna go with that estimation, Mike thinks it was less. We're also not getting on the road as early as we did the first week which also plays a part in tonight's 8:30 pm arrival. Enough time to write and post the blog while eating dinner, look at our route tomorrow, copy the directions (correctly this time) and update our route map before I hit the hay. The campgrounds and states are blurring into one. I can't remember what state, let alone the city we were in this morning. Good thing I have my ... read more

...and we have 4 shiny new tires on the trailer. That got your attention, didn't it?! No, we didn't have a blow out. We knew we'd have to get tires at some point on this trip, we just didn't think it would be this soon. Two of the tires were pretty low on tread. Oddly, the two were the driver side rear and passenger front. We found a Walmart nearby that had several in stock and they were able to get us in right away. We did a little shopping to while away the hours. We didn't confer with the flowers, however, or consult with the rain (name that tune). When they finished installing the new tires and adding air to the spare, they kept the two near-bald tires and gave us back the two okay ... read more

...began with a COCK-A-DOODLE-DOOOOO!!! Reminded me of when I was a kid. Happy memory. Yes, all the fine-feathered friends from the other side of the trees came back to visit this morning. Even more birds than yesterday. Mostly chickens. Besides the rooster, only one hen made any sort of noise. She had a nice, quiet, friendly cluck. The turkeys on the other hand, were quite vocal. We left the campground just in time. Drove through a short rain shower not too far down the road. Once we got going in the right direction to catch the freeway, we made a beeline to Savannah. Along the way we saw several billboards for peaches. One advertised a fruit stand called (you guessed it) James and the Giant Peach Stand. Another just said Peach Bread with the exit number. ... read more

…and again no wifi even though the Good Sam camping website said this campground had it. Oh well. We’ll do another RV park tomorrow and hopefully that one will have access. The park here is really nice. It’s a huge recreation area on a huge lake. People are out waterskiing, jet skiing, paddleboarding, party barging and good old-fashioned playing in the water. The drive here was interesting. The truck got down to just under ¼ tank so we started looking for a place to refuel. The problem was that we were again on highways driving through small towns whose gas stations closed long ago. The one or two functioning stations we came across didn’t have diesel. Of course. We made our way back to the interstate hoping to have better luck. A mile or ... read more

…had more gray skies. And rain. And lightning as we neared Demopolis. Not the sheet lightning like the last two nights but bolts that ran across the clouds. Yes, across, not down. I’ve only ever seen down. Across was kind of cool to watch. Today we drove in three states. Started in Louisiana, went through Mississippi and stopped for the night in Alabama. The rivers down here are all brown. I wonder if it’s because of flooding or if they’re always that way. I didn’t really feel like taking pictures today because we’re seeing everything from an interstate; not much to see. Then I thought about taking pictures of billboards and unique town and river names. By the time I got the camera out, all those things had passed. I didn’t see much in the way ... read more

Just a quick update. Today we had planned to begin the 444-mile Natchez Trace Parkway scenic drive from Natchez, MS to southwest of Nashville, TN. We're not doing that. After the drive, we'd planned on heading to the Great Smokey Mountains. We're not doing that either. There are flash flood and regular flood watches and warnings all over where we had planned to drive the next few days so we're scrapping all that and cutting across the south to the Eastern Seaboard and heading north. We just wanted you to know before we left today so you wouldn't worry. We didn't pick up any pontoons or floatation devices for the fifth wheel so we're not going to risk it. If we had, we'd probably go for it for the adventure and stories.... read more

...started with delivery trucks right outside our bedroom window. Not the kind of alarm clock I'd choose, but it worked. We got up and walked across the parking lot to McDonald's for another nutritious breakfast to fuel our systems. Luckily, the dirt we were parked in had dried overnight so breaking camp wasn't a muddy mess. The day was spent driving highways instead of interstates. FYI...the Indian Nation Turnpike is a toll road between Henryetta and Hugo. One of the hidden benefits of driving the highways is skipping this. We drove through quaint towns and passed several large ranches with impressive houses. In one of the tiny towns we passed through, the stone foundations of the houses were crumbling, but the town had a shiny Sonic restaurant! In fact, nearly every town we drove through today ... read more
