I'm Megan. Doctor, runner, baker and adventurer. Travel in my free time. Love seeing the world. I initially started the blog to keep in touch with family but now it is also a really good memoir and diary of the big places that I have been. I have also travelled a lot in Europe and I wish that I could have recalled more on here, just means that I will have to go again.

South America » Peru » Lima October 1st 2023

Lima I arrived in Lima in the evening after the boat tour and stayed in a cute area called Barrenco which is super hipster with lots of restaurants, bars and cafes, street art and has a really cool atmosphere so I spent the evening walking around there. The next day I explored Miraflores and had a nice, steady day which was great as I have been go, go, go for a week and I haven’t slept in the same bed for more than 1 night in a row! I was surprised by Lima as I expected it to just be a big capital city but it had lots of character, charm and the Miraflores/ Barrenco region was green and had lots of parks and a great sea promenade for walking, running and cycling. I really liked ... read more

South America » Peru » Arequipa September 26th 2023

Peru I took and overnight flight to Lima followed by a flight to Arequipa and got there early in the morning. Arequipa The second largest city in Peru. High altitude, surrounded by volcanoes. The centre is very cool architecturally with cathedrals, monestaries, lots of Juliette balconies and courtyards. Lovely coffee shops, nice place to hang out for a day. The main reason why I wanted to do Arequipa was the Colca Canyon which is a very Deep canyon in the Andes. I did this with a 2 day trek tour with a very early pick up of 3am! We arrived at the Canyon after having breakfast in a town along the way and stopping to watch Condors. We then descended into the canyon and walked along the bottom for the day. We stopped for lunch and ... read more

Amigos, Salento Bus from Medellin to Salento- the fabulous coffee region. Salento is a small town located in Quindío. It’s colourful, cute, quiet and quaint. I arrived quite late to went to bed and got up early to do the Valley de Cocora. This is a valley full of wax palms (really tall palm trees), there is a walk which goes up the valley to a mirador and then down through the forest which is really nice. To get anywhere in Salento you need to get in the back of a jeep which are surprisingly comfortable but usually packed with people. After this I had a chill and explored the town. Salento also gives the opportunity to play Teho Next day I went on a coffee tour in El Ocaso which is an hour walk from ... read more

Buenos Dias Minca From Cartagena I got a bus to Santa Marta which got in at half 8 so I had a sorting out evening and morning in Santa Marta. Thankfully, it was a little cooler than Cartagena but there is not much to do and the city lacks much character. I got a bus or ‘collectivo’ in late morning from Santa Marta to Minca. I have been staying at a super cool hostel called Casa Loma which is on the hill. There are private 1 bed huts which were a bargain so booked one of those. Minca is a village in the Sierra Nevada mountains and a backpacking haven, nice coffee shops, food and hostels. Lots of good walking and nature to enjoy. In the afternoon I got there I went to the Marinka waterfalls ... read more

South America » Colombia » Cartagena September 2nd 2023

Hola chicas Cartagena Seems like 2 cities- the old town which is a fortressed l, walled part of the city and the very new skyscraper filled sky (Bocagrande). Is insanely humid- around 31 degrees but I was sweating buckets and it’s really difficult to stay outside for too long because of this. Arrived from long flight in the morning, dropped my stuff off at the hostel and then went to wonder round the old town and Bocagrande, went for a dip in the beach which was ok but nothing in comparison to the other beaches in the islands. After this I went back to the hostel to check in and went on a walking tour of Getsemaní, this was cute and had lots of culture and murals. Then went for arepas with some people in a ... read more

Asia » Indonesia » Bali » Ubud March 1st 2017

Ubud was the perfect way to end the holiday. It is the cultural centre and heart of Bali. We decided to hi a driver for the day to take us from Seminyak to Ubud so we could do some cultural things around the island on our travels. First stop was the Balanese traditional dancing.... This was well... Interesting, I didn't really enjoy it that much but there was a crib sheet telling you about the story behind the dance and I found the culture and "myth" like aspect of the dancing interesting. For example the Barong is a good spirit and the Rangda a bad spirit and they basically battle during the dance, in which there is no winner. There's a lot of screaming and weird parts to this dance. In sure there are multiple but ... read more

Asia » Indonesia » Bali » Nusa Lembongan February 26th 2017

Nusa Lembogonan, Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida are 3 islands off the east coast of Bali which are easily accessible via bots from Sanur. We decided to have 2 nights in Nusa Ceningnan which is just off Lembogonan. The boats from Sanur Rock up on the North coast and a quick 10 minute trip to the south coast where you cross a bridge (this was closed at the time we went but has just reopened). From here there are some villas up mainly the west coast. The island is very small and rural, jungley with a few activities and food places. Cliffs are the main bits facing the sea but there are a few beach points such as Secret Point and Blue Lagoon. After arriving via transport arranged by the host of Ocean Villa from Seminyak ... read more

Asia » Indonesia » Bali » Seminyak February 25th 2017

so... My first 10 day trip in almost 2 years, and what other place to try other than Bali. Trip started in Seminyak, initially staying in a Airbnb in the North of Seminyak close to Batubelig. This was a nice little place with a pool and several apartments away from the main road. We were about 2 minutes walk from the beach and could hear it from the window. when we arrived we ventured north up the beach to a place called Finns Bar and had a few cocktails on the beachfront, we then had dinner at a little warung closer to town whilst the sun set. We headed to the infamous Potatohead which is a cool bar/club in Seminyak and then headed back home. The holiday has involved a lot of chilling but I feel ... read more

North America » United States » New York June 21st 2015

Where to begin. Up there with the most amazing city in the world. And no, you don't have time to sleep! After our long journey, we arrived at our accommodation in Brooklyn, which was the Lomg Islnd University student accommodation and was basically like hall, but it was only £18 per night. After checking in, we went to a wine bar call Stonehome Wine Bar and Grill. This was the first time we had real, nice wine in the whole trip and was really relaxing after the long day. The following day I had booked to go up the Statue of Liberty and on to the Pedestal. This was amazing, I went on a beautiful day and walked there from Brooklyn, over the bridge. This allowed me to walk through the financial district which I ended ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Panama June 16th 2015

So after a long bus journey on a bus which stank of cockroach repellant, we arrived at Panama City. We were lucky as our room was available at 6am when we arrived so we went and crashed there for a few hours. That day we went to the infamous Panama Canal. We took a shuttle there from our hostel (Lunas Castle) in Casco Viejo- the old part of the town and went to the Miraflores Locks. Here they had a four story museum about the development of the canal and viewing points looking over the lock and allowing us to view the massive ships that go through. Due to the current usage of the canal they are trying to extend and widen it so they can get more and bigger vessels through. On our way back ... read more
