Dream team, oh yes !
Hi Liliram For Chateau des Crayeres lunch we had a booking...but I guess at lunch you don't really need one. For Pommery, if you ask the restaurant to book you the tour, you receive a 50% discount. For Veuve Clicquot, this was really special and I guess cannot be booked at all.
Traveling In Style I 've got to give it to you, Peter, to travel in style. My, I'm envious. The food and the wine (plus the company , of course) and the ambience! I wonder if you had to make reservations way before you got there? Cheers!!!!
Yep - top diver honeymoon spot :) I do know some singles who've been there and had an awesome time too - but - broadly agree diver honeymoon spot :) - nice turtle cave shots!
Hi Markjo We did fly between Lombok and Bali. It was 30usd per ticket one way with a weigh limit at 20kg per person. As there was 3 of us, we were safe. I have a BCD and Reg with me, and we travel also with two shorties and snorkeling equipment for three of us...so it's manageable.
Beside this we have fly a lot with Air asia lately. I'm generally very happy with them. It's true there is the 15kg rule...and you'de better not be at 17kg. But you have also the choice to pay more for 25kg upfront. If you buy your tickets way in advance it's worth it...but if you do it last minute, conventional airlines are better on a regular basis.
The fast boat is aroud 65usd per person, so if there are 3 of you, I would still fly.
Hope this help...we are diving Sipadan tomorrow....can't wait!
Peter
Life Jackets Peter, thank you so much for your reply. It is invaluable. I'm glad you made it back safetly. I did the same journey 12 years ago in April with my husband when the sea is generally rougher. We had a rough journey. There were no life jackets then and I wondered whether things had changed. You've really helped me. I am going out today to buy my son a lifejacket! We fly out to Asia this saturday and will be coming to Gili Trawangan in August.
We have travelled round Malaysia with dive gear. We have flown with Air Asia. Their luggage allowance is 15kg and so each time we payed extra to put it in excess baggage. We are thinking of either taking the fast catamaram to Lombok from Bali, or flying. I am curious to know whether the airline you flew with has a weight limit of 15kg? Did you pay extra to send your dive gear as excess luggage or r u travelling very lightly so that with your dive gear in your rucksacks you come under the limit? I wish you all the best in your travels. We are enjoying reading about what you are doing. Great photos. Thanks again. Jo
Fish ID ;) rabbit fishes = silver batfish, Ma'ri found this one = crown of thorns starfish, little nudibranch = varicose wartslug (related but gills on underside), fish...yeah! = blue ringed angelfish. Looks like you had a good time overall :)
Nice break... Well, you've got to have a break somehow! But really, that's a great break. I would have been amazed where you guys get the energy the way you guys are going. Family trips are really on a different league! Cheers!
what a wonderful life Thank you for sharing all these wonderful moments... I do enjoy looking at the pictures and reading along your entries...thank you and enjoy every moment of it..
W O W !!!!! Peter, you are having such a good life! These photos are absolutely awesome! Great experience for Leslie, and for Mari too. Wishing you more precious moments such as these.
Bring you own life jacket! Hi Marko,
I really think it was 80% chances we would not make it to the shore...I had already put my wetsuit and Ma'ri did the same, prepared my BCD...as it can be a very efficient floating devise. With the drifts around...who knows how many hours we would have to hold. My son was the only one on the boat with his lifejacket...his own...and that made me feel much better. Don't think they have ANY life jackets on these boats. We made it safe, but that was an experience...as you may guess, I don't have any pic of it...was too busy trying to get ready to hit the water! It was blue sky, and 2 hours before the sea was flat! Peter
lifejackets on boat to Gilis? Hi, really liked the page! We're bringing our 6yr old to the islands in 2 weeks - saw your picture - are there children's lifejackets on the small boat from Senggigi to the Gilis? Or did you bring one yourself? thanks, Jo
Great to meet you guys too. And I didn't realise how like Angkor Wat Prambanan is! - added to the ever growing list - enjoy your travels before Bangkok.
Very apt This couldn't have come up at a better time! I am leaving for China and will be in Guilin for a couple of days in the first week of July. Your article will come in handy. Any more tips are welcome. Great work.

Hi Peter! Glad to be reading your blog, and knowing you guys had a fun time. Sorry to miss you in shanghai, but I will most certainly be back to check out Guilin (nearer HK or Shenzhen , than Shanghai, right?) and watch the Impressions. What an awesome spectacle.
Looking forward to your blogs on thailand, as i have only been to bangkok. Cheers!
amazing! this is the most extraordinary travel blog i've read. i enjoyed looking at the pictures and i thing more, i just love the penguins. Great blog!!!
This blog is just short of 10 years old. We have now move to South Africa.
Why South Africa? Simple, great wine, great food, great golf and even more amazing diving! I will for once continue to blog from time to time about home. After all, this is just my fourth continent after having grow up in Europe, lived in Asia for twenty years, and even spent a full year living the life of Buenos Aires.
Come to visit....there is so much to do here! ... full info
