One of the beauty of low-cost airlines is that they linked cities that never had a proper link. So first after China, little stop in Kuala Lumpur. Nothing really new for me...after nearly 20 visits here. But the occasion to meet Ali. If you wonder who is ali, he is the great guy who runs travelblog...a very well travel, even better dived guy. Ali, was nice to meet you and hope to see you soon for some diving.
Little shopping stop in Kuala Lumpur. Yes, we've got an 8 years old at home, and he is "eating" books at a great speed...so KL is a great place to re-stock for the holidays!
Monday afternoon...next funny low-cost flight...so far...so good...they even have a lounge at the low-cost terminal! Yes!
Yogjakarta, Java, Indonesia! To be honest, some of my friends asked me...where is that! Well, if you tell them Borobudur...the wow come staight on. And WOW it was.
First the flight to Jogyakarta....you pass by few very impressive volcanoes sitting above clouds. We made our way to another nice little room and our first indonesian diner. Time to pack few supplies for the next day. Find a car for
the long day ahead. Not that difficult, but the most cost efficient way seems to be heading for the street and to negociate a taxi for a 10 hours block. As there is 3 of us, this is not a bad deal at all.
Tuesday morning...waking up early. For your info, doing the sun rise on Borobudur is a must. But this means also waking-up around 4am. Not that I don't like to do this...but I won't have Leslie wake up two days in a row at 4am...as Wednesday is another day....so we did wake up at a more civilised 6.30am for a great breakfast.
50 minutes and we made it to Borobudur. The pics tell it all. The site was built between 800 to 900 AC. The biggest single buddhist structure in the world. Quite interesting when you know that very few buddhistsare left living in the area.
Another interesting story. This Monday, they had 200 international visitors...and 25,000 indonesians. Most of indonesians being highschool students. This gave us a very colorful visit. School-trips...we love to do them with Leslie's school, so this was not much different!
Little tricky from time to time to have
a clear pic with so many smiling faces around, but I won't complain.
Next stop, after driving for another hour, we reached Prambanan. This is a hindu temple. Another great site. I went to Bali few times, but this one is way more massive. Prambanan has suffered from numerous earthquakes. The last one in the morning of 29th May 2006. The most amazing thing is that the restoration is an ongoing process...till the next massive earthquake, when they will restart again. There was more than 220 structures in the past...many of them are down, not in a great shape at all...but this is due to mother nature...
Our last stop of the day, the Sultan Palace in the center of Yogjakarta. An interesting visit...I expected a less sober experience thought, but it was a nice walk around open grounds.
Mid-afternoon, and it was time to give some time to Leslie to enjoy the swimming pool. I've been very impressed how fascinated he has been all day long...it's nice to see a little guy become a little man!
Very early wake up on this Wednesday. Two flights this time to reach our next stop. Guess I will
upload this entry once we arrive. For our next entry...wait a little...should be even more fun!
