This is one of two blogs i'm putting up at once, so be sure to read the first of the NYC ones after this :) There are two pages to this blog, click on page two at the bottom of the first one to see the rest of the photos The 9th of February was the longest Monday we have ever had. After flying from Christchurch to Auckland then Auckland to San Francisco we had arrived several hours before we had departed. The flight was long and I didn’t get too much sleep, but the movie was good. We tried our luck at taking the train into San Fran from the airport (which proved very easy to navigate). We had decided to stay at a hostel in SF, which was OK. The location was good, but ... read more

North America » United States » Illinois » Chicago November 4th 2007

Hi everyone. Once again, apologies for this one taking a while to be put up online. We are infact home now, but we ran out of time to put up this blog and the LA one while we were in the States. My impressions of Illinois was once again, completely different to any of the other places we had vistied so far. Chicago is huge, I have never seen buildings so tall (more about Chicago later). We had a three hour drive from Ohare airport to Goodfield where we stayed with Sandy and Denny (Jahan's host parents from when he lived there in 1999). Goodfield is a small town with a diner, a gas station and a bank. It is a farming community, where the farmers grown corn and soy beans. When we got there however, ... read more

North America » Canada » Quebec » Québec City October 27th 2007

Hi everyone, sorry this has been a long time coming. As I mentioned, we have been in and out of internet contact for the past couple of weeks, and it takes quite a long time to load all of the photos up here. So, we arrived in Quebec City and started the morning with breakfast with our friends Pat and Clo. They both speak French as their first language, but speak English reasonably well. (By the end of the week, we had picked up a few French words and phrases) We spent the first afternoon walking around the old City. It is so incredibly beautiful, with amazing architechure. The fortified walls are still around the city and there is a castle and Citadel where they would have fought from, had they been invaded. We finished the ... read more

North America » Canada » Alberta » Edmonton October 20th 2007

So, we came to Edmonton a day early, and what a great decision that was! After having a small sleep in, doing some washing at getting organised, we made our way to West Edmonton Mall (the world's largest shopping mall). Getting there was raher interesting, the city streets are laid out in a grid system, but there is a large river going through the city, and only two bridges over it, so it can be rather tricky to navigate around. Especially with all the one way streets and highways. Eventually, we made it. We arrived and it didn't really look that big from the outside, but WHOA! did we get a surprise when we went inside! So firstly we walked in the door of the 1st floor (it only has two floors) and were looking down ... read more

North America » Canada » Alberta » Banff National Park October 16th 2007

Hi everyone! Sorry, it's been a while coming for this blog, but we have had some issues with internet access, we have had acess, but it's been so slow, it's almost impossible to upload the photos and videos. Anyway, here it is: There are 48 photos on this one and 10 (very short) videos. You will probably have to click over to the next page to view all the photos. On the 14th of October we started our holiday. We picked up the rental car (which we have named 'Fanta'). It's really nice; a 4 door automatic Pontiac, with enough room for us and our luggage (and so far has driven 650km for CA$40!). First stop was Banff, we both really liked Banff, it has the look and feel of Arrowtown or Hanmer Springs but a ... read more

North America » Canada » Alberta » Calgary October 15th 2007

So the boys decided to take a trip to see dinosaur country last Wednesday. We got two mini vans and headed out to drumheller. To get there we went about 1.5 hours north east of Calgary. Here we went to the biggest museum with dinosaurs, this was by far the coolest museum I have been to and is one of the best 5 museums in the world. Hope you enjoy the photos there is not much you can talk about but lots to just look at. We then visited the world’s smallest church that sits 6, man its tiny! We then visited a suspension bridge and got some great views. We then went to the hoodoo’s, these are a natural rock formation. Finally in this busy day we had time to fit in a visit to ... read more

North America » Canada » Alberta » Calgary October 14th 2007

Hi everyone, well, by now you have all probably heard that we were in the finals today, and we came 9th in the WORLD!!! We are all so proud of our acheivements, and we had a big party tonight to celebrate. Just to let you know, we would have come 7th, there were only 5 points difference (out of 3480 available) between 9th and 7th place, unfortuently, we we given a 25 point penalty because in one of our songs, we had a lady wearing a crown. She was not actually allowed to wear it on stage, as the people who wear crowns are those previous quartets who have won the international competition. So, we would have been 7th, had we known we were not allowed to have this happen, but no-one knew. We came 7th ... read more
