On the way from Edinburgh we went via the Carslie Castle and Hadrians wall. Hadrians is a rock wall built by the Romans to keep out invading armies. The wall spans from coast to coast and was ½ an hour out of our way but it had to be seen. The only thing was trying to find it. All the paddock fences in the area are made of stone walls and in this particular area we were surrounded by then. I said to Greg that I am sure you can walk on it so it would be a little wider than the ones around us. We ended up in the middle of someone’s property and still not real sure what we were looking for, Greg thought it was the little rocks covered in grass but on ... read more

We flew into the airport at Edinborugh after ½ hour flight, and picked up the hire car. It was about 4pm, and rather than go and hibernate in the hotel room, we hopped in the car, and drove to the North. There were some heritage type attractions in a town called Perth, which is about 1 hour North . We jumped on the expressway and got to Perth in time to go through a huge cotton Mill on the River Tay. Kathy wanted to go to a couple of other of attractions in the area, but it was a bit late to go in and see them and Greg and GPS driving again so didn’t even go past. We then went on to St Andrews, to look at the famous golf Course. That was interesting as ... read more

Left our Homestay at about 9am arrived at Stansted airport 10.15am. Tried to find where to do our bag drop for Ryanair as you have to pre check yourself in and print out boarding pass. I knew there was a 15 kg limit and had tried to repack before left but once the bag was on the scales it still showed a weight of 18kgs and it was going to cost 60 pound to check it in. So on the floor in the airport we tried to take more things out (everything I packed was so light that it was a joke trying to take out 3kgs of stuff). The problem is you are only allowed to take one carry on bag but it could be 10 kgs- mine was already stuffed full so in the ... read more

London first Visit Day1 We decided to try a homestay for the first days in London. After the Mega Run from Bath to Oxford, then London, we thought it would be sa good time to have as lazy day. After a bit of a sleep in, Kath remembered a tourist attraction that she had read about that was near Christina’s house (our homestay host). The attraction was a series of caves that have been around since the Saxon and Roman times. We went there for a visit, and found them very interesting. It was Chiselhurst Caves/ The caves were totally man made, as they were the sight of a large chalk and flint mine that dated back thousands of years. The Saxons mined the chalk from the early ages and when they were overrun by the ... read more

We left hotel in Bath at about 8am and walked 5 min walk into town, nice walk along the river and saw some Lochs. Nothing open until 10am!!!! We walked around the little lanes and tried to find somewhere for breakfast, a local asked if we needed help as we had our map out- told her we were waiting for things to open and where really just getting our bearings. She suggested a few parks but we thought by the time we have breakfast, the Abbey may be open then we can hit the other areas. The lady actually came back to us to tell us that the Roman Baths actually open at 9am and best to go there early before all the tour groups arrive, by this stage it was now 8.30am. We found a ... read more

It’s my birthday - Left Brighton at about 10.30am a bit later than would have liked but by the time we had brekky did all the internet and skype business, tried again to get money out of bank with the travelcard with no luck and got car out of very expensive car park it all took time. On the way to Portsmouth we went the scenic beach route, which really wasn’t all that scenic as it was very industrial and went to the Arundel Castle and found it was was closed on Monday’s. ( I did know that but I thought we could still have a look at the outside of it as it was on our way). Arundel is a Quaint little town and has a wetlands bird attraction. Plenty of old folk with ski ... read more

I woke at 3.30am ready to start the day as it was about 10.30am KL time, there was still lots of partying going on outside still, so I thought it safer to stay in bed and get more sleep - also can you imagine me waking Greg at that time!!! Beautiful sunny day approx 25 degrees. We left hotel at about 8am and the town was like a ghost town nothing open and only people around were the occasional jogger, bike rider and the poor council cleaners cleaning up the mess from the night before. We walked along the beach front to the Brighton Pier which didn’t open till 10am, we had a problem trying to find somewhere for breakfast as everything closed, we finally found a little café overlooking the pier and had a cooked ... read more

We arrived in London after a 14 hour flight from Kuala Lumpur. I think that is long enough for a single journey, and I am glad we planned a break in KL. The 24 hour direct flight from Australia to London must be hell. After a bit of time with the hire car company, as they were charging us exorbitant extra costs on our hire car, even though it was all pre paid, we jumped into the car and started the drive to Brighton. We hired a little VW, and it had no problems doing 80 MPH on the motorways down from Stanstead airport. Problem was that everybody else was doing about 100 MPH (about 160 KM/H). We were even being passed by transit vans. Arrived in Brighton at about 6pm and found car parking a ... read more

To the surprise of everyone, we made it to the airport on time. Check-in was a breeze, as we had done the online checkin the night before, and because of this, didn’t have to cue up. Straight through the bag drop, and into customs. Highly recommended. Customs took a bit of time (Kathy was checked for drugs at both checkpoints), then it was breakfast time. As the plane had arrived early, they decided to board it early as well, so we had to rush breakfast through and get on the plane. The trip to KL was 8 hours, and pretty uneventful. Air Asia are quite good to fly with, but like other budget airlines, all the extras cost more, so there was no inflight entertainment, and all food was extra. They were also reluctant to change ... read more
