Well the last couple of days have been very interesting. After 10 days without a break, (although we really only worked 4 hours a day) we all traveled to the Great Wall of China. We all decided on going to a place where not a lot of tourists typically travel. Were we ever RIGHT!!!!!! The WHOLE time on the wall we may have seen a total of 10 other tourists. It was outstanding! Our whole trip was very interesting, however. First, we woke up at the crack of 7:30 (on our day off) and we all hoped in a bus (barely big enough for all of us. all of us being all of the Cambridge people, and Iowa along with AIESEC). We were told that this ride was only going to take about 3 hours. As ... read more

So I don't have any new pictures today, except one or two from a birthday party we had, but its been a very cool couple of days. The new revolution I have had is that, people LOVE to just laugh, no matter what race, religion, or place of birth. This should be a very obvious statement. However, in my life I have come across people that don't really feel the same way as I do about this. But this is why I came to this conclusion. I have been pretty just like "down" for about a day here, (just some dumb stuff) and so I decided to get over my fear of traveling by myself. I think I have this fear because here, most everything is mass transit, and coming from Juneau, I never had any ... read more

Its been a very long time since I last wrote, and lots and lots have happened since. First, during the last two weeks, I have taught two different classes. First, I taught a class that consisted of rising third graders. This means they would be entering third grade in the fall. This was a challenge, the misunderstanding of the languages really was a challenge to overcome. The first day, we were just thrown into working, so we really didn't know how to teach or what we SHOULD be teaching. However, after the first day all of my fellow interns and myself got into a "rhythm". All of us started teaching, and playing games. It was amazing. I was very happy, and proud to see not only myself, but several other interns rise to the challenge of ... read more

Hey Everyone!!!! Sorry its been a couple of days! I just arrived in my new "pad" at the school where I will be teaching for the next couple of days, but let me begin with some of the sites I was able to see before my journy to the school. One of the most exciting things of the last couple of days was my opportunity to go to the so called, "technology center of the world" in downtown Beijing. It was amazing, imagine yourself in a place that is wall to wall electronics, with about 50 "stands" per floor, and at each one of those "stands" two or 4 people. NOW think of all of those people seeing your from America, and yelling for you to come by camera's. It was amazingly funny. People would grab ... read more

Today was interesting, I went to the Lama temple, which is a place where 70 monks pray and live. I saw possible the most incredible thing of my entire life. There was a statue of Buddha that stood 80 feet tall, and was carved from a single piece of Wood. It was an incredible site. Such amazing detail, and I really can’t describe it in words. I wish I would have been able to take pictures, however, it was not allowed to be taken because there were many, many people that were praying. It was an amazing site!! Also, we were able to go to the “earth goddess temple”. We stumbled upon this on our way to the Lama Temple, but it was more than worth the money to go and see it. Inside of this ... read more

Hey everyone, I arrived in China two days ago now, and it has been a very interesting experience. I arrived about 45 minitues late, and I walked right by the people picking me up, so that was very embarassing. :) but eventually, I called some people, and found the people, so we then took a drive back to my hostel i'm staying at temporartely untill i get moved into my perminet quarters tomorrow. So for I have been able to see Forbidden City, The Old Summer Palace, Tian'anmen Square, The Chinese national art gallery, and downtown Beijing. Forbidden City was an amazing place, so beautiful , and just full of history. I'll put a couple of my pictures up from it, very impressive the scale of it. I was even taken to a place thats called ... read more
