ELECTRONICS!
inside of the stores in the electronic section! Hey Everyone!!!!
Sorry its been a couple of days! I just arrived in my new "pad" at the school where I will be teaching for the next couple of days, but let me begin with some of the sites I was able to see before my journy to the school.
One of the most exciting things of the last couple of days was my opportunity to go to the so called, "technology center of the world" in downtown Beijing. It was amazing, imagine yourself in a place that is wall to wall electronics, with about 50 "stands" per floor, and at each one of those "stands" two or 4 people. NOW think of all of those people seeing your from America, and yelling for you to come by camera's. It was amazingly funny. People would grab you, and pull you by their merchandise. Very funny. Attached, I put a small video of the place so you can see what i'm talking about.
Then on our way out of the Technology district, we were trying to find our way back to a pastry shop where we were meeting fellow AIESECers, and alas, we were lost in downtown
Beijing. So we just sort of walked in random directions before one of us decided to find a business man to show us the correct way, when that didn't work and he pointed us the wrong way yet again. We ended up finding the place; forty min later, and it was only about 2 blocks away.
The other thing I was able to see before I came to the school was Old Summer Palace. It was very interesting. Although one of the best parts was a ride we took across the water while a man rowed for us, it was very peaceful, and just interesting to see the park from a different point of view.
So then the best part... I have now started my job!!!!!
This week I am teaching students that are rising third graders (they will be in third grade this upcoming year.) When we first started teaching, we assumed that the students would have very poor english Skills, however, it seems as though, they are AMAZING.. I mean, of course, little slips now and then, however, for the most part; they are very good at what they do. We
thought we would start teaching them numbers, but they knew that.
So we then decided to move on to shapes.... but they knew that as well. (almost, we kinda threw in a curve ball by giving them an octagon lol.) So today we moved onto the months of the year. They are doing very well, except some of the students are having a very hard time pronouncing "September, October, and August".
At the end of the week, the students are having a talent show. So my "group" has decided we will make the months of the year into a song, and they will present this to their parents. It should be very enjoyable.
My internet status is very spottty right now, b/c i bought a damn Toshiba computer and apparently the plug for my internet cable is loose. So thats really awesome. I hope that I can put more on either sunday night (my time) or monday night!!
Hope everything is cool back home!!
write me an e-mail or somethin, i kinda get bored without facebook here.
