Healey Dell The group of girls and I headed to Healey Dell nature reserve to visit Sarah and her family for the first half of our intersemester break! We attempted to play snooker, but failed to finish a sin We explored the dell and found some prospective homes for the four of us and then after the two girls left Sarah and I explored the Greater Manchester area and all of the National Trust sites that were open in the middle of winter. Hint- there aren't very many. We went to two mills (it was Manchester after all), two national trust houses... read more

So I finally got out of Heathrow airport and am now snug in Hatfield just outside of the city. So...my flight redirected to Stansted and then I waited three hours for my luggage and then traveled by train to Heathrow. It only took a totally reasonable 8 hours! After that I spent the night and much of the next day in the terminal before I was rescued by a friend of a friend. Thankfully a family friend put me up at her house just outside the city so I could wait out the four days until my flight goes out. Things are looking good at the airport now so hopefully I will get out of England on the 23rd! While I wait Kath and I have been to visit a couple local landmarks like Hatfield house ... read more

The Cheerleading Society held a social at the one club in St. Andrews. Yes, cheerleading in Scotland. The society played Bring It On at the Freshers' fayre to reel in potential members. Later they asked me if Cheerleaders really wear their uniforms to school everyday like they do on GLEE. Clearly they are a lot of fun!... read more

Freshers' Week I have settled into my single! I have been surrounded by freshmen going crazy. The girls in my corridor are great and we have a good time together. So far I have had only one class and it was taught by an American! I am not too worried though since it was in International Relations which apparently is a department overrun by Americans! I have joined a couple societies and can't wait to get started. I also want to keep everyone up to date on the things that I see here and don't understand: the first is meat pies, I have had chicken pie and it was delicious but there is a line and I think they have crossed it! also I have had several sightings of what I can only describe as "man ... read more

Finally!!! Edinburgh was great. I met up with the one other UC student going to St. Andrews and our UC center liaison. We had some good home cooking at Mum's restaurant and caught up on sleep. Our guide planned a ghost tour of the old town for us as well as a tour of Edinburgh castle. We packed touristy things as well as administrative school stuff into just two days! I didn't take too many pictures and the ones that I did take I am not in (for obvious logistical reasons) but I am hoping to make several trips to the city while I am at school and so I will have plenty of time to collect more snapshots. ... read more

Less Than 24 Hours Tomorrow at the completely reasonable hour of 5 am I will take off for my year abroad. I really dislike that I have posted this to my facebook but I would rather people were able to find it if they want to read it...and if you are like me and couldn't care less what other people are doing on their glorified vacations, then you can just ignore that link and you probably wouldn't be reading over my information anyway. I know that I am terrible about writing and keeping in touch so hopefully I will be better about keeping this up and then I will only have to write all of this once! That is all I think I need to include in my first entry from the exotic local that is ... read more
