It's Yeched Mat to you. Good health in Breton, Another close word to Ieched Da in Welsh. Breakfast was croissants purchased from the reception brought in daily from the local bakery. They do taste good. Much better than those back home. Are they made with more butter than back home? I have no idea what makes them different . I just eat them, crumbs and all. We moved plots at 11 when our neighbour in his McLouis left the plot. A French motorhomer came and looked as if he was going into our old plot. He shouted at me for moving. Well I think I heard the word illegal coming from his mouth. Ignoring him we moved . After all we had paid for the plot. Our plan after the move was to catch the bus ... read more

After our visit to Suscinio we headed off for our camp site Flower Camping Le Conleu. It had only opened last week. The French season starts late and finishes early. We arrived at the lunchtime two hour siesta. Whilst waiting I fell into conversation with Mrs Exeter. I never ask names . In motorhoming you meet folks , never ask their names and rarely meet them again. She told me she had just arrived, was staying a few days and had been to this site before. She had booked in advance. Whilst talking to her Glenn had fallen into conversation with Mr Devon. A nice man who had suffered an illness and had to give up motorhoming and had bought a small caravan. He too had been to Le Conleu before. He was travelling for 10 ... read more

Anyone who knows me well will know I always respond that I am Welsh and not English. I love welsh history, am proud of my welsh ancestry and the meaning behind the title of this blog will become clear in a moment . Bear with me. Being welsh we had to do it one day. We had already walked in the footsteps of Henry Tudor at the Battle of Bosworth and we had visited Leicester the resting place of the defeated Richard III. Here in this little part of France we could walk in Henry Tudors offootsteps again. This time we would be walking the steps of the man who spent much of his young life exiled in Brittany. Smuggled out of Britain by his Uncle Jasper Earl of Pembroke at the request of his mother ... read more

Evening all as Dixon of Dock Green might utter as he stands beneath his blue light outside the police station. Perhaps I should say Nozvezh vat. Good evening in Breton . Now that does sound like Noswaith da the welsh for good evening. The aire is filling up nicely. No-one has parked alongside us yet and we are heading down town for our evening meal. Want to join us. You know we welcome company as most of the time we feel like Billy No Mates and tonight is going to be no exception . It is still light. We only have a short walk from Gabby to the auberge we have chosen to frequent. The chef sits outside smoking his cigarette. Hello he says, welcome - you want to eat . Yes that's a possibility we ... read more

So it's Demat to you today - goodmorning in Breton. I had wondered how close good morning would be to the welsh version of Bore Da . Well I know now and it is nothing like it. I shall be looking for comparisons as we move deeper into Brittany. Sometimes you don't want to leave your perfect spot. Sometimes it is just too nice. Lying in bed in Gabby listening to the church bells calling the faithful to mass I just want to lie there savouring the fact that we got off on holiday and here we are in La Belle France. The sun is shining and we feel a long way from home. We are not though just a few hours from the Tunnel. Britain is never too far away. We do leave though. We ... read more

.A few months ago we watched a programme on Islamic Gardens by Monty Don. Travelling around Brittany the idea of the paradise garden came to mind. Everywhere was yellow. The colour of springtime. Broom and Gorse blooming alongside the road. Spring is certainly much more advanced than back home. Primroses and Cowslips line the banks. They are such pretty and delicate flowers. Flashes of mauve from the early spring Orchids. The fields look like a patchwork Persian rug. Tiny white daisies with their yellow eyes, dandelions, lilac Ladies Smock and the pale blue of the dainty Forget me Nots. Our destination today was a 12 space motorhome stop close by the town of Fougeres. It was going to be hit or miss getting a spot . As it is a free aire it was likely to ... read more

It was the day before our trip and it was my last day at work. There is always an air of expectation as I count down the last minutes to leaving the UK. I wonder what I have forgotten to pack or that something will go wrong. I did the last minute shopping, said our goodbyes to family and thought so many things to do and think about. I wonder what the traffic will be like tomorrow as we drive down the M1 and the M25. Will we get a good run at the tunnel? I never sleep well . There are always too many things on my mind. Eventually after much tossing and turning I see the cold grey morning light filtering in through the windows. As I open the curtains I see rain. It ... read more

What a lovely sentiment. Between our two lives there is also the life of the cherry blossom. Written by Basho it sounds such a thought provoking few words. As a child I loved to see my mum coming home arms full of branches of pink and white frothy cherry blossom. She put them in vases . Dad hated the smell of them. He hated the petals that fell on the floor. I loved them. They heralded Spring. They were delicate, pretty and so short lived. A haze of colour which lasted less than two weeks and then they were gone for another year. I loved the pictures of them flowering in Japan and vowed that one day I would see them in their natural glory. It has not happened yet but it will. The sentiments made ... read more

Most mornings I rip the thought for the day off my calendar. The thoughts come from Chinese and Japanese writings, from Hindu texts, Buddhist ideas but overaching the themes always make me think, make me smile and sometimes I fail to understand what they say and why they say it. Today I had nothing exciting to read and the only things that came into my mind were songs. The earworms were about and I found myself thinking "What a difference a day makes - 24 little hours" or " Here comes the rain again " Yesterday snow, today warm and Springlike. Today heavy rain. Over the last week or so I have walked to work through all sorts of weathers. The skies have been blue without a sign of a cloud. Just vapour trails from planes ... read more

What a difference a week makes. This time last week the weather was pretty miserable with 4" of snow covering the ground. Spring seemed a long way off. This week the clocks have gone forward, the sun is shining and finally it does feel as if we are heading for some decent weather. We were heading for Wales to get a final hair cut before our holidays. Feet have been pampered and Gabby has her seats and table in together with some of the things we need for a holiday. First the holiday is on, then through unforeseen circumstances it was off. This week it is back on again although in a shortened form. Probably two weeks in France rather than the usual 4 weeks. We probably wont make the sun of the south rather we ... read more
